Khan vs Garcia - 7th July
By William Mackay (who I'm guessing is not a Khan fan!) :
According to Dan Rafael, Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions, says that Khan will likely be fighting on July 7th, very probably against WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia in a fight that will be televised on HBO.
The fight may or may not be a unification match depending on if the International Boxing Federation (IBF) or the World Boxing Association (WBA) strip Lamont Peterson of one or both of his titles for him testing positive for synthetic testosterone.
Khan wants one more fight at 140 before moving up to 147 to seek out bigger fights against the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr. That likely be a pipe dream of Khan’s that will never be fulfilled, especially if shoves, pulls down on Garcia’s head and runs all night long and gets away with it by not being penalized. Mayweather wants to fight someone that comes to fight and doesn’t run like Khan. He said previously that he thought Khan should have been disqualified for the way he fought against Peterson last December.
I can’t see Khan changing the way he fights, so I expect him to be on permanent ignore by Mayweather even if Khan moves up in weight. He’ll find that there’s no one really to fight at 147 other than Mike Jones, Victor Ortiz, Shane Mosley and Andre Berto. Khan won’t fight Manny Pacquiao, so that pretty much limits the kind of money he’ll make. Unless Khan can become a star in one of HBO’s 24/7 series like Mayweather did, I can’t see Khan becoming a mega star in the future. He’s been beaten too many times, and his running, shoving and pulling down on the head style of fighting simply isn’t good television in my view.
Garcia was recently exposed by a way past his best Erik Morales last March. Garcia got the win but suffered a broken nose, and looked incredibly beatable. An in shape Morales would have given Garcia tons of problems, and fighters like Marcos Maidana, Lucas Matthyse and Ajose Olusegun would have beaten him. It goes without saying that Tim Bradley would easily school Garcia.
It doesn’t make sense for Khan to fight Garcia now, because there’s no gain in beating the guy because of how awful he looked last time he fought. If Khan is serious about wanting to fight at 147, he needs to cut his losses already and move up in weight. He was already beaten by Peterson at 140, and there’s no changing any of that. It happened and Peterson created the blue print in how to beat Khan by pressuring him and fighting on the inside where Khan has no skills whatsoever.

Ah yes, a fine and balanced piece of sports journalism there!
I have no isses with Khan taking this fight. Kudos to him for not dwelling on the Peterson rematch disappointment and quickly arranging another fight which, at the very least, has to be described as fully legitimate even by Khan's biggest critics.
I think a Khan stoppage in the middle rounds is a distinct possibility. He's so much more mobile than Garcia that I think Garcia will just be bewildered by Khan's quicksilver raids in and out.

Very bad journalism. He uses the phrase "school" in reference to a Bradley fight. Biased.
If this man gets paid, I have no idea how.

Jesus Christ, no gain in beating Garcia? Erm....well if he does end up getting his belts back from Peterson and then beats Garcia he'd have the WBA, IBF, and the WBC so making him the top dog. Jesus no wonder belts aren't cared about anymore with journalism like this.

who has the WBO title, is it still bradley? would khan not stay for one more fight at 140 if he gets the WBA/IBF/WBC title if it means a true unifaction bout?

Agreed, how Khan can be criticised for fighting for a legit World title in his own weight class is a bit baffling!

Funny article. Especially when he mentions Khan has been beat too many times to be regarded as TV worthy..........im pretty sure Pacquiao has lost 3 times and drew twice (not to mention losing more in some peoples eyes).......Pacquiao is TV Gold! This guy is a nuthugger!

Re: Khan vs Garcia - 7th July
Khan would probably be forced to fight Kell Brook at 147lbs if he lost against Garcia. That would then rebound him back to world stage.

Re: Khan vs Garcia - 7th July
brooks not that well known outside the uk yet though, and if he fights in a IBF eliminator so would likely be looking for a title shot around the time khan would be having his next fight.
paulie M at 147 rematch would be ideal for them for WBA title

Paulie already said on twitter that he doesn't want that fight, he openly said that they've fought and the better man won we should we revisit it?

Sounds like you are reading an article on BoxingNews24, the 'writers' on there are always slagging off fighters from the UK.

Yeah, what's their issue? That site is terrible. How it gets any comments is beyond me?

Same, they were close to purse bids I think. Ajose deserves a shot and he would win imo
It's a good name on paper and would be a good win given te circumstances but I feel Garcia has no chance.
He beat morales but I wasn't impressed. He had much faster hands and was stronger yet didn't really put morales under any pressure.
His defence was alright but got caught a couple times by morales who was very slow. Garcia won't be able to counter khan as khan is too fast and throws combo's from angles. Garcia is tailor made for khan, a smaller man who likes to fight at a slow pace trying to control the fight

That guy sounds like some of our resident Khan haters who litter this board with their anti Khan bile.
As for the match-up, it'll be an easy night's work for Khan.

There was never any reason to take the WBC belt off Tim and hand it to Erik, so Garcia's a champ in name only. Still the best fight that could be made I guess.

Re: Khan vs Garcia - 7th July
Yes of course, Khan has a poor style to watch that makes bad fights, the evidence being 2 FOTY candidates 2 years running. (Maidana - Peterson) And also being in fantastic fights against the likes of Gomez and Limmond. Also blowing away most other victims with fast dazzling combinations also with that feeling of vulnerability with his chin being suspect make him pathetic and boring to watch. Rather watch Audley to be honest...
