The Dew Drop Inn Virtual HEC Final Rugby Pub, Twickenham
First topic message reminder :
Chin chin and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat. The pub has arrived in London this week for the Heineken Cup final so has stocked up on cucumber sandwiches ( - KRD ) and Pimms.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Ruan Pienaar, Stephen Ferris, Jonathon Sexton, Rob Kearney and Jonny Wilkinson (the five nominees for the ERC Player of the Year award), Nigel Owens the HEC final referee or Adam Powell (captain of Llanelli RFC who are playing Ponty in the Welsh club final on Friday). The CCTV snaps of Prop_Lyd and the other Cardiff Saracens players on tour in Croatia are fair game though.

http://www.superxv.com/news/super15_rugby_news.asp?id=35268The South African Rugby Union have confirmed that the Southern Kings will participate in the 2013 Super Rugby competition but have added that their inclusion will not be at the expense of one of the existing teams.
I love the journo's final sentence
SARU's statement leads one to believe that they have come up with a formula that will re-invent mathematics as currently six does not go into five.

Well, that tells you pretty much everything you need to know about SARU. Einstein wasn't even that smart (or foolish to suggest it is possible).
On another note, good morning people.
I have been wondering, can anyone tell me why the English and Welsh are so begrudging each other any success on the rugby field?
Every article involving one has to automatically involve the other in a $(%# measuring contest.

Bore da pawb / good morning all. Thursday today, and for me every Thursday's a pay day!
Biltong, from a Welsh perspective, there are hardly any arenas where we have success, or visible, quantifiable success at least. When we're doing well in the rugby, it's a huge source of pride and our chests swell with it. When anyone has a pop at us we rush to defend the national side because it's possibly the only thing we have to shout about on the world stage.
I'd guess that the English side of it is a bit of annoyance that this little country to the west has the temerity to be better at something, and the default response is to suggest that it's just a brief anomaly and the status quo will soon be restored.

The posters are used to making jokes about the other faction behind their backs. Face to face they rib each other without getting angry, and that's even with drink involved. There is something about being contradicted in type which both sides can't handle.

That's a good point, Glas. If someone said something about me, I wouldn't be that bothered. But if someone slagged me off in print, so to speak, that's a different matter.

No, no, I’m not getting involved – I’m in the office and have work to do. After all, we all know the English have always been so wonderfully kind and benevolent to the Welsh, don’t we ?

It was sunny and wonderful when I left home this morning, at work it's foggy and dank, a fitting environment for this hole. Ah well, only today to go and then a couple of weeks holidays wooooohoooooo!!!!!!

'The Trefael Stone in Pembrokeshire was thought to be just one of many linked to nearby Bronze Age locations.
But it has now been reclassified after a survey established it as the capstone of a Stone Age ritual burial chamber.
The survey revealed the location, near Nevern, has been used for ritual burials for at least 5,500 years.'
I hope the journalist means the site was used for ritual burials for at least 5,500 years. His wording suggests it's still going on!

To be fair she was very nice,
Her beauty was beyond compare, with flaming locks of auburn hair, with ivory skin and eyes of emerald green.
Note:- her eyes may not have been that colour, I didn't look that hard

Taking the short spin to Connemara Luckless, got ourselves a lovely little cottage on the quay of a small fishing village. Days of walks on the beach, spots of fishing and the hike of about 20 metres to the pubs for relaxing pints will ensue. I think we'll be thoroughly chilled by the time it's over

Biltong –yeah, there is ‘history’ between the two countries, but most of it way before many of the posters on here could ever remember.
However, there are a minority of posters on both sides who have a default setting, which is to attack the other. Even to the extent that they will leap onto a perfectly good thread about the ‘opposition’ which has good talking points and will just sl@g off the other team. For no other reason than they can.
I normally leave those threads alone, though part of me wants to respond because they are idiots and need to be told they are.

Sorry, I was waiting for the boxing guys to get the tribute post up before I elaborated. https://www.606v2.com/t29645-human-windmill-please-read#1241044
RIP Human Windmill, a true gentleman. I'm nominating him as (possibly) our 1st non-rugby player pic for the next pub wall.

That is very sad news indeed. I had never heard of the guy before I saw the thread about him yesterday. He clearly made a huge impact on the posters from the boxing section and the moderation team.
Was he an older man?

Are any of the Ospreys fans here able to tell me if Cai Griffiths can actually scrummage?

Massive fire in one of the largest buildings on campus here at Queens University Belfast.
Last count five Fire engines. In case MrsP is in, the Lower Malone Road is cordoned off. Could cause some disruption around Methody?

This is such a waste of two lives and I don't want to downplay that in any way; but I'm quite angry at what the coroner said in summary:
'Speaking at the inquest, Mr Pritchard-Jones said the use of drugs among young people was becoming more common.
"In recent years we are coming across drugs more and more often," he said.
"In cases involving young people, it's a rarity for us not to find any drugs, and it's a sad reflection that the use of drugs - especially cocaine - has become so common in this part of the world.
"The message is that drugs kill."'
This is untrue. It would be just as untrue if he'd said alcohol kills.

I don't see how it's untrue either.
Alcohol and cocaine in combination seem to have lead to the terribly sad deaths of these 2 young women.

It's his omission of 'can', Mrs P. There are millions of people in the world who take drugs and come to no harm whatsoever, just as there are millions who drink and are unaffected.
