AINTREE Day one
Well kiddies the eve of the second biggest NH fest in the calendar.Had a look through the cards, some very good stuff, some competitve handicaps and a minefield of a hunter chase over the National fences too boot.
Race 1.A so called rematch from the World hurdle but Big Bucks stamped his class on that event and he just cant be overlooked in this, has doubled up here before and on paper looks a shoe in.
Race 2.Put Grandouet up for this straight after his effort in the Triumph,he travelled up as the best horse in the field, was that last off the bridle but was found out by the Hill.As long as it hasnt left its mark he has solid claims.
Race 3.Cant have Denman at any price round here,he was off the bridle all the way in the Gold Cup and it was only his guts that kept him in it.They will surely take him off his feet round this speed biased track and id be willing to take a chance on Punchestowns.Hasnt always delivered but this test looks right up his street.
Race 4.Stick a pin in! Seriously,i respect Baby Run but he had a real hard race at the Festival and at the prices i like Turko.Very useful chaser on his day,if he retains any of his old ability he must be going close in this.
Race 5.Very competitve race with many holding chances, lot of interlocking form from the Festival but one who didnt go to Cheltenham catches my eye,Tchico Polos.Won a similar sort of event at Exeter early season and comes here relatively fresh.
Race 6.No hard or fast view on this race apart from i wouldnt back Medermit in any race with any money even if it was counterfeit,if pushed for a selection then Royal Charm.Bolted up first time out then scrambled home just before Christmas, not seen since so taking his fitness on trust but yard would have had many possibles for this event.
Race 7.Another ultra competitve handicap but one that went into the notebook after a win at Musselburgh early in the New Year runs again,Wyse Hill Teabags.Won and been placed at Kelso since the aforementioned run but he has shown a liking for a flat, tight, speed orientated track and with a good clip almost guaranteed i can see him finishing off to good effect over the last two.
To summarise,if i was betting then these would be the dreaded ones to avoid;
BIG BUCKS
GRANDOUET
PUNCHESTOWNS
TURKO
TCHICO POLOS
ROYAL CHARM
WYSE HILL TEABAGS.
Hope you havent nodded off reading this

Re: AINTREE Day one
Good work Racingnut, i think we're on the same lines when it comes to selections for today. The two i fancy are Turko & Royal Charm and will be having a small investment on each of them ...
2.00 Bug Bucks
2.30 Zarkander
3.05 Punchestowns
3.40 Turko
4.15 Woolcombe Folly
4.50 Royal Charm
5.25 Lake Legend (although i hope Bothy wins as this horse deserves to get his head in front in a decent race)
Looking forward to a decent days racing and hopefully will be able to get some Live Streaming from the Beeb website at work.

Re: AINTREE Day one
Wow! What can you say about Big Buck's?
If her stays sound he's going to be unbeatable for a few years to come.
Fantastic effort from Grand Crus and a great ride from Tom.
Grand Crus looks to be on his forehand slightly, compared to Big Buck's way of going
I love Big Buck's.
Here that folks?.....he won't be going chasing.
Don't you just love the jumps when we have horses like this to follow?

Aaaw Grahame......well I've got to stop watching after this race........I love my job but really don't want to go today.
Jason Maguire has his arm in a sling btw....it may just be a precaution.

Re: AINTREE Day one
Just caught that ... A race too far for The Tank i'm afraid but what a superb run by Nacarat, Paddy Brennan rode a cracking race from the front and galloped them into the ground.

Yes Grahame.....they should have retired him after his fine performance at Cheltenham.

I thought that things were getting a bit too easy. Oh well more good rides for Ruby later.
well done Nacarat! I thought the horse had a big chance today, but got put off because I thought that he would find at least 1 too good out there today.

Re: AINTREE Day one
Fair play to young Willy Twiston-Davies, a lovely ride and certainly makes up for his dissapointment at the Festival .... Got to say though, Baby Run is some horse, less than three weeks after a tough race at the festival, he goes and gallops them into submission here. Tough horse indeed.

Re: AINTREE Day one
Yes both he and his brother are definitely 2 to look out for in the future.
great days racing this and still 3 top class races to come.
I've gone for Tchico Polos in the next but Mamlook and possibly Woolcombe Folly are big dangers
