The Grand National takes racing and sporting centre stage today but theres really top class events outside of the big race and i thought id cast a view or two on the other races.
1.45 Thought his was quite a lightweight event for a grade two but id throw a few quid at UTOPIE DES BORDES.She ran much better than the distance suggests behind At Fishers Cross at the Festival, giving the impression that the bottomless ground and 3m1 just stretched her too far, back on better ground and over a more suitable trip she makes some appeal.
2.15 This is simple, its everything OVERTURN wants.Quick ground, sharp track.Ran a strange one at the Festival, showing no life and fading badly but this is a different universe form Prestbury Park and lets be honest if he cant put this lot to the sword then where do you go with him? 2s or bigger is solid value.
2.50 Competitive event but witout Big Bucks it lacks real quality.Solwhit will be all the rage and conditions are perfect but he had a hard race in the World Hurdle and id be looking for something a little fresher to take this.GRAND CRUS has top flight form over timber and fences and if he comes here anywhere close to the horse that shook Big Bucks up a season or so ago then 5/1 will look like the bet of all time.Im willing to take one last pop on him.
3.25 Cracking race with loads of chances but PLANET OF SOUND just jumps of the page at me.Top novice form and loads of solid graded handicap efforts.Ran a blinder in the National last year but tired from the Melling Road,if left alone in front he can be very dangerous and he finally gets a sound surface for the first time this season.10s is massive ew.
5.10 Ultra competitive heat with lots of chances as you would expect but im going out the ball park with MAKBULLET.Thought to be a suspect stayer at one point,he finally got it together at the end of last season with solid runs at Kelso and Musselburgh on good ground. This represents a very similar test and with his featherweight and his jockeys valuable claim then he might think hes let loose wth 10-01.Massive price to small ews.
5.45 Dont do bumpers,have a beer instead!
