New Zealand Under-20s v Wales Under-20s (Teams/Match thread)
First topic message reminder :
Baby Blacks - Marty McKenzie, Matt Proctor, Marnus Hanley, Opetera Peleseuma, Junior Va'a Tofa, Scott Eade, Bryn Hall, Ofa Tu'ungafasi, Nathan Harris, Eric Sione, Joe Latta, Christian Lloyd, Taniela Manu, Hugh Blake, Jordan Taufua. Replacements - Rhys Marshall, Tuki Raimona, Fraser Armstrong, Nick Ross, Jimmy Tupou, Jono Kitto, Ihaia West, Pita Ahki.
Wales - Ross Jones, Tom Prydie, Cory Allen, Jack Dixon, Eli Walker, Matthew Morgan, Tom Habberfield, Rob Evans, Kirby Myhill, Samson Lee, Cory Hill, Matthew Screech, Luke Hamilton, Ellis Jenkins, Dan Baker. Replacements - Darran Harris, Gareth Thomas, Will John, Rhodri Hughes, Daniel Thomas, Jonothan Evans, Sam Davies, Thomas Pascoe.
* Well probably the best Wales U20s team of the year. A lot of pace in the backline behind a big, strong pack. Shouldn't be a massacre this time then...
Each player is tied to a premiership team and should have been getting regular game time. Others have played in the LV cup for their Regions, Pro12 and in some cases the Heineken Cup. Capped international Prydie and Tom Habberfield have played for Wales in the IRB Sevens Series and showed up very well. I think Ponty 2nd row Cory Hill is the captain, he has looked pretty handy in the games I've seen him play. Each need to show up well and overcome any psychological barrier if they are to stay within reach of New Zealands school-boys. Good luck boyo's.
** Baby Blacks undefeated for 5 years fall to U20 Six Nations fourth placed Wales. Well done boyo's. Complete turnaround from previous years. Still don't agree with the 14 players not being released for that Six Nations though.

Yep, they are awful at names - I thought that was pretty much a commentators entire job.

Oh morgan is normally a ghreeat kicker but hes clearly out of sorts and its not like the conditions allow for his style of game so Maybe sam would be a better option. His kick from Hand is better than morgan and its a kick and chase type of day.

Bloody hell if this was a Welsh pitch we'd be saying what a great surface it is, so condusive to playing "the welsh way" :P

Re: New Zealand Under-20s v Wales Under-20s (Teams/Match thread)
It was the NZ 11 on the replay.
Dangerous tackle, a lot of refs would have given Yellow (Halfpenny on Parrisse was not as bad)
Prydie kicks a penalty from near halfway! Brilliant kick, should take over from Morgan based on that.
6 - 6

There is no way on earth that deserved a YC. It was not even dangerous but as the law stands it was illegal.

Re: New Zealand Under-20s v Wales Under-20s (Teams/Match thread)
Look how low Sampson is in the scrums, New Zealand loose head no chance. Sampson is dropping his right shoulder on the engagement so he cant hit him in the scrums so he cant get any kind of hit, then is just driving into the hooker. Cracking scrumaging.

I see Alyn's earlier point now. It really was not a good idea starting with that giant number 1. He belongs in the back row.

Welsh scrum really driving NZ, smashing them - i've never seen such a dominant Welsh U20 scrum.
Penalty on halfway - Prydie to take it.

Exactly, Halfpenny was looking at the ball - the NZ no11 was going for Prydie's legs.

From memory Parisse was much higher in the air (Prydie was about 6 inches when hit) and due to 1/2p being small Parisse was flipped where as Prydie was caught and brought down on his feet. Not saying 1/2p deserved YC, but it was worse than this.

He did use arms, and was committed to it. Good call from the touch judge, penalty not a YC.

Early engage
But there's a double movement which gives Wales the penalty to relieve pressure.

Not at all. The ball was knocked on then he fell from the air onto Matt Morgans shoulder. I think you'd do well on this commentary team.

It working well - prevents Wales getting turned over or giving away a penalty in their own half. Good decision in these conditions if you ask me.
