New Zealand Under-20s v Wales Under-20s (Teams/Match thread)
First topic message reminder :
Baby Blacks - Marty McKenzie, Matt Proctor, Marnus Hanley, Opetera Peleseuma, Junior Va'a Tofa, Scott Eade, Bryn Hall, Ofa Tu'ungafasi, Nathan Harris, Eric Sione, Joe Latta, Christian Lloyd, Taniela Manu, Hugh Blake, Jordan Taufua. Replacements - Rhys Marshall, Tuki Raimona, Fraser Armstrong, Nick Ross, Jimmy Tupou, Jono Kitto, Ihaia West, Pita Ahki.
Wales - Ross Jones, Tom Prydie, Cory Allen, Jack Dixon, Eli Walker, Matthew Morgan, Tom Habberfield, Rob Evans, Kirby Myhill, Samson Lee, Cory Hill, Matthew Screech, Luke Hamilton, Ellis Jenkins, Dan Baker. Replacements - Darran Harris, Gareth Thomas, Will John, Rhodri Hughes, Daniel Thomas, Jonothan Evans, Sam Davies, Thomas Pascoe.
* Well probably the best Wales U20s team of the year. A lot of pace in the backline behind a big, strong pack. Shouldn't be a massacre this time then...
Each player is tied to a premiership team and should have been getting regular game time. Others have played in the LV cup for their Regions, Pro12 and in some cases the Heineken Cup. Capped international Prydie and Tom Habberfield have played for Wales in the IRB Sevens Series and showed up very well. I think Ponty 2nd row Cory Hill is the captain, he has looked pretty handy in the games I've seen him play. Each need to show up well and overcome any psychological barrier if they are to stay within reach of New Zealands school-boys. Good luck boyo's.
** Baby Blacks undefeated for 5 years fall to U20 Six Nations fourth placed Wales. Well done boyo's. Complete turnaround from previous years. Still don't agree with the 14 players not being released for that Six Nations though.

Congratulations to Wales, cracking defensive effort.
The Baby Blacks deserved to lose that, they didn't play intelligently at all, couldn't cope with the conditions and had a terrible kicking game.

Awesome result, Just reading the thread was tense enough. Great to see the players come on as much as they had - soon the Scarlets will have the Welsh bolier house playing for them!

What a game! Very tense! Atrocious conditions for both sides (obviously) but still entertaining.

A few of the top players sat on the bench last year. It was like throwing the towel in before kicking off, the awesome Baby Blacks smelt blood and 92 nilled Wales.
Anyway, fingers crossed lets not meet these until the final at least hehe.

And if we do lets hope it rains again as the Baby Blacks are not going to be happy after that. You can almost hear the sound of indrawn breath and anger building in the land of the long white cloud.

Maes reread the scotland Oz game and change a few names to welsh and kiwi kids and it was pretty much the same.

I'm not sure if it's true but I've heard that in previous years Wales would send mainly 18 year olds to this tournament, but this year went for the more 'senior' players at this age group, hence the players who've been around a while and have some Pro12/HC experience. Any truth in this?

Yes I said this earlier, the policy was only to send players who werent playing regional rugby.
Basically the likes of Eli Walker, Prydie, Ross Jones, Matthew Morgan, Habberfield etc, etc would not of been selected if that policy had stayed the same.

Who was MOTM?
My MOTM was Ross Jones, brilliant kicking game. Pydie also looked good in the back and Allen closed down NZ very well and every since forward put their body on the line in defence, but Jones was the standout - I hope he gets more regional chances.

As a side issue, and sorry if this point has been made a million times, shouldn't the baby blacks really be called the small blacks. That would make a lot more sense.
And congratulations to Wales. Great result.

They werent that small although playing a 6 foot 4 loosehead didnt work for them. If the welsh had cut out the early engage then we would have had quite a few more penalties at scrum time.

Great result for Wales against a New Zealand 20s 'A' side. Great defensive effort, but it really seems that they can only sneak a win against good opposition when conditions are poor. Also where we're the try's?

NZ need to regroup now. Perhaps not a great vintage coming out of NZ this year but we're due a blip every now and then!
C'est la vie!

A but odd for a scot to start with the "NZ A" side or "sneaking a win" in poor conditions espescially after youor comments when scotland won. Why so bitter?
