Gennady Golovkin
Sorry I posted this on the old 606 but......
Gennady Golovkin to be (possibly) the next middleweight King with a 100% record and a 85% Knockout rate, who also KO`ed Lucian Bute in the 2003 world championships, and beat Andre Dirrel on points in the 2004 olympics. I think Martinez v Golovkin would be a real corker.
Thoughts.....
oh and I apoligize in advance for using Box Rec ;P

watch about 2.54 into vid and see Bute get banjoed.

Must admit have not seen much of him but he has a phenomenal amateur record. Not got any real names of note on his pro record given the fact he holds a title. Any news on upcoming fights?

I would put him in the category of the likes of (Valero) no real test as of yet but dangerous never the less, I do not know his next opponent but (Watch his space) ;P

Re: Gennady Golovkin
Just watched some footage of him looks very heavy handed and very technically gifted as you would expect with that amateur career. If he ever becomes a superstar you can dig this thread up and show off a bit.

Re: Gennady Golovkin
I've only just realised that Golovkin is the WBA middleweight champion. I thought that Felix Sturm was the WBA middleweight champion so I looked it up and........ he is.
It's about time the WBA sorted this situation out. I feel they had been neglecting the middleweight division for some years, only having the one world champion.

I hope that's not true because that would only leave two WBA middleweight champions.wow_junky wrote:Sturm is super champ

They are holding a raffle in the crowd on the night of the fight. The lucky raffle winner will be announced as the new WBA interim champ.

Re: Gennady Golovkin
Gennady has beatin some good pro's at amatuer level but this is a different ball game now.
Its doesn't bode well that he's fighting in Germany in gimme fights.
I think he does need to step up now, considering his amatuer accomplishments aswell

Don't understand why a guy with his amateur pedigree needs to have such a soft start to his boxing career. He should be capable of much better.

Re: Gennady Golovkin
I'm excited about Golovkin he is a pure beast, at the moment I would pick him to beat any middle weight out there, I would also put him up there with any of the super middle weights at the moment including Ward.

Looks very good. But Ward would school him imo.

Golovkin is a beast. seeing the way he dismantled Proksa was something else. Mattinez v Golovkin would be a battle and a half.

I really think Golovkin v Ward would be a very close fight TBH Az both are very intelligent and good at what they do, with Golovkin having the better amateur pedigree which means nothing in the pro ranks but there record pre super six is pretty much the same, I would actually pay to see them two fight with out a doubt.

Re: Gennady Golovkin
Given that he hits harder than Chavez and closes the ring off better I see the Martinez-Golovkin fight a lot closer now than previously although I feel Martinez will ought a lot smarter and won't be so gung-ho
Ward-Golovkin would also be pretty close and Golovkin won't be at any disadvantage size wise as he spars light heavies and cruisers, but ward is a huge step up and wont engage him but use his skills and ring IQ to outbox him 116-112

Re: Gennady Golovkin
Think WHU has it spot on regarding the Martinez bout but I have a sneaky feeling ward might not appreciate Golovkins aggressive hit anything in range attacks through the middle rounds and it may tire him out. I still go for ward (SD) mind but I think Golovkin could make a mockery out of our predictions and take out ward by TKO in the later rounds.
I think Ward might have a little concern that Golovkin has those sort of punches that have a visual/audible impact and thus might sway the judges to give any close rounds to him.

Re: Gennady Golovkin
Struck me while considering Chris's Mayweather vs Whitaker thread, how much impact FMJ punches are in comparison to Whitakers and as it is bound to be such a close fight - the tiniest things could make a difference as to who wins each round
