Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook
Seems as though the IBF/WBO unification fight between Brook and Vargas could be off. Both have been trading insults on social media. Vargas claims to be fighting Bradley instead now.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook
I'm hoping Hearn will get it over the line. It does appear (from the outside looking in)as though he's prioritsed Eubank vs Golovkin.
You can understand that but I imagine Team Brook will be furious if this one slips away (they seem to me to be cheesed off with the way he's been matched of late).

Three stiffs in a row has lowered interest in Kell....Which is a shame because I think he would fight anyone..
Good manager is Hearn but he needs to up his game with Brook..

Style wise, Brook is my favourite British fighter right now. So frustrating that he has left it to his 30's to be fighting at this level (if he does).

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook
Not that I can stand the guy but I think Mayweather matured as a fighter in his 30's. Like Brook, he doesn't ship too much punishment and I think Kell's career still has some way to go although cynics would suggest it simply means another 5 years of doing nothing.aja424 wrote:Style wise, Brook is my favourite British fighter right now. I think Brook can round out his career against some big names. I wouldn't be surprised to see Thurman after Vargas.
Calzaghe was still fighting at European level (in all but name) at Brook's age. A final flourish to his career solidified him as a great fighter (for many).

A small part of Brook will be hoping Eubank gets beaten because if he wins he leapfrogs Kell for a place in Eddie's affections

Don't think he needs to be hoping anything, GGG will smash him

So after Abel Sanchez slated Oscar and Alvarez for fighting Khan, his 'fearless prizefighter' is now also dipping his bread against a much smaller fighter...

This is literally the funniest thing I've read today. Can actually imagine Brook saying to his camp "If Khan can do it so can I!" while everyone was trying to get him to see reason

How is Brook a much smaller fighter? He's a massive welter and GGG isn't exactly a huge middleweight. Don't make such ridiculous statements. Nothing brooks shown to suggest he gets 'ruined".

Yeah To be fair, Brook's the #1 man at 147lbs while Khan has never won a belt past 140lbs. He's also a bit taller than Khan etc.. But being real... He's getting iced

Eubank would stop Brook...
Not even worth thinking about...
I'd buy GGG v Eubank but not this slaughter..

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook
To be fair, i think Brook is a fantastic talent, decent power at Welter, good boxing ability, but hasnt beat that "Name" in the ring to expose his ability.
I just cant see anyone beating GGG. Maybe the home support upsets him for a few rounds, but he just tends to be able to do anything whether its box behind a jab, go to war, move....plus freakish power.
GGG to stop a brave and determined Brook in 10 and then will see Brook vs Khan next May.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook
This fight is even more stupid than Canelo vs Khan
Its a monumental mismatch in which Kell Brook is going to take some serious damage, boxing commissions should intervene and stop this ludicrous mismatch
Kell has absolutely no chance and GGG will end it whenever he feels necessary
Anyone who thinks Kell goes past 6 is because GGG lets him
Style is a nightmare for Brook a pressure fighter (Carson Jones)
His arms are too short so he is going to have to step into GGG's range and GGG's jab will kill him
GGG obliterates middleweights, what is he going to do to a blown up welterweight
Shame on Hearn, GGG and Brook for this ludicrous fight, I heavily criticized Canelo and I will heavily criticize GGG
Its so obvious its for a good pay day for both of them and GGG deserves a good pay day with everyone ducking him, but not like this
Hopefully the commission throw it out if they have a shred of decency
Absolutely fuming
WEIGHT CLASSES EXIST FOR A REASON

He isn't going to last 10...He's a welterweight that gets hit too much..
He went life and death with Porter...and struggled with Carson..
He's too small..
One has to remember GGG is in his mid 30s...when spouting he's unbeatable..
Also factor in he hasn't been tested..

I wonder if GGG is testing the water at a lower weight limit in preparation to fight Canelo for the undisputed 155lb title? Have they said anything about the weight class yet? I'd be very surprised if this is at the full middleweight limit.

Interesting take on it
But if Canelo wants to be a chicken his PPV sales are going to be affected, so he will soon have to come out of hiding, why not wait
Why bow down to a divas demands

GGG fans are as thick as Pig crap..
Money for old rope is a price he has to pay for a cunning Canelo plan..
Bless him.

GGG has fought nobody, Martin Murray went 10 rounds & Brook is only stepping up one weight division, whereas Khan went up two & was small, whereas Brook is a big welter.
Closer than you think this.

Yeah I saw that after I posted, this will be very one sided and a poor fight really for Golovkin.

I apologise if I've been rude....
I remember the crap Floyd got for Alvarez and Manny...
Amuses me the double standards...
Time for this guy to take on a Degale or a 168 champ and do what Oscar..Roy..Floyd and Manny did and move up and test himself..
Had enough easy pay days now....We'll give him middleweight. .
Have a good weekend..

Khan vs Ginger boy.
This one takes the biscuit. And at least junior can take a shot.
Talk about oneupmanship. Brook has won that by a mile now.

Will never slag a guy off for testing themselves against the best so fair play to Brook. Truss is right though, a little disappointing from GGG, if a top tier middle cannot find challengers at his own weight I'd prefer him to look north rather than south.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook
Fair play to Brook - he's proven a lot of people wrong in taking this fight.
Disappointed with the fight and with Golovkin. I wanted GGG vs Canelo and Brook vs Khan rather than a pair of mismatches.
I think Brook is a far livelier underdog than Khan, but unfortunately for him, he's in with a much tougher favourite.
The fight is 160 by the way - no catchweight.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook
I actually quite like this fight and Brook has got balls, but this has been very embarrassing from the Eubanks. No reason to chide Golovkin as this is a live opponent imo. I'll stick with this, he has no reason to move up till he's unified at middle.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook
I'd have given brook a shot at Alvarez and Alvarez a shot at golovkin... But brook golovkin?
It's like brook's looked at Khan and thought, his rep is still intact, mine will be too. What he needs to worry about is whether his head is still intact. Khan had already been knocked out before, brook might in principle still have those big fights available at welter... But will he still have the belief to win any of them. He's thinking its a no lose money maker. I think he has more to lose than he realises.
Very brave, very admirable, equally foolhardy, and completely unnecessary.

Didn't see this coming, but I can guess how it will end.
Comparisons with Khan? Khan won 3 or 4 rounds before being knocked out cold. Dont see any way Brook picks up rounds. Just a one sided beating however long it lasts.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook
Whilst the circumstances make comparisons with Khan Alvarez inevitable I am not sure they are too instructive. Khan has one fundamental flaw in his arsenal, he has, to be blunt, no chin and so against a guy two divisions up with decent power it was always a question of time.
Whilst Golovkin hits harder than Alvarez it seems pretty clear Brook has a decent set of whiskers, only time he has really been in trouble was against Jones and that was a lack of fitness and ill discipline outside the ring that caused his issues.
That is not to say he will win this, but there is no guarantee this fight is just a matter of how long it takes GGG to to land, which was always the case in the Khan fight.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook
Boxers with a weak chin tend to avoid brain damage and associated effects. As soon as they get hit with a good shot they go down, lights out.
It is those with a good chin that get brain injuries. It is the volume of concussive punches that does the damage. That said I would be surprised if Brook doesn't get knocked out on the first clean good punch that GGG lands.

... He was wobbled by senchenko. I think his whiskers are fine, but that's against Welters and he's never fought a noted banger. If his chin doesn't go his ribs will.
'Everyone knows I'm a big welter' Kel brook July 2016
'Everyone knows I'm only a welter' Kel brook Sept 2016.
By the way, I don't blame him for taking the money... Just don't see how he's competitive. I like brook as a fighter and the Carson Jones quips are irrelevant as he was a slacker then... But he's not powerful enough to keep golovkin honest nor elusive enough to avoid the artillery.
Hope I'm wrong.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook
I think the big difference between this and the Khan vs Alvarez fight is that if Khan and Alvarez were the same size you'd probably make Khan a favourite, would Brook be a favourite against Golovkin if he wasn't giving up the size advantage? I don't think he would be. Style wise I think Golovkin is all wrong for him and just flat out better than him. Add to it he's a naturally bigger guy and Brook gets flattened here.

This is a "Me too, Amir" exercise for Brook and a "gimme" for Golovkin.
Nothing but a cynical money making show. Are there really that few opponents at middle or welter? Am disappointed with both camps. There are better fights out there for both, and I cannot see anything but a painful loss for Brook.

Yep, when he's lying in a crumpled heap on the floor, he'll be thinking 'anything you can do, Amir...'
kel will get the last laugh though. Khan thought he could fight Alvarez and still get brook... brook has outmanoeuvred him by taking a potentially career-ending early fight.
