Euro 2012: Day 5 Thread
Greece v Czech Republic (17:00, ITV 1)
Poland v Russia (19:45, ITV 1)
Current Group Standings:
Russia - 3
Greece - 1
Poland - 1
Czech Republic - 0
So back to Group A for Day 5 of the tournament. Greece will be looking to build upon the foundations laid against the Polish while the Czechs will want to bounce back in style from the humiliation of their first game and will need a result to stay alive. In the second game, Russia will try to make it 2 wins out of 2 and all but secure qualification for the Quarters and Poland will once again be looking to impress in front of their home fans.

Re: Euro 2012: Day 5 Thread
The hapless Czechs will have been stung by their abysmal performance against the Russians. They must surely come out and go for it, otherwise it's pack-your-bags-time, fellas and a welcome home in which mouldy fruit could figure prominently.
The Greeks will have been disappointed by their draw against the Poles but knowing that a win will put the Czechs out of the competition, thus reducing their group to a three horse race should give them incentive to go eyeballs-out for a win.
Poland will struggle against Russia, in my opinion. I can see that going only one way. All the more reason for Greece to turn the screw on the Czechs today and thus put themselves into a strong second place with one game to play.
Games on.

Re: Euro 2012: Day 5 Thread
the greeks will win- a very good organised team.
the czechs used to be a top team- but lets be honest there team is on the slide with no new players proping them up.
Russia will beat poland- but maybe not by a massive amount. Not sure if they can produce the same type of performance twice on the spin. But they should win comfortably

To borrow a phrase from our American cousins. Russia will clinch today. That is all.
Re: Euro 2012: Day 5 Thread
I'm looking forward to the Poland, Russia game. I was pleasantly suprised by the merits of the first teams in the first round so it should be a good game.
The Greece-Czech game on the other hand...I think it'll be really scrappy, Greece know that if they beat the Czechs, the Czechs are out and they have a good chance of qualifying and the Czechs need a win realistically so hopefully their needs will turn it into a good game.

I feel for the Czechs. It is sad that Baros is their main striker. A lot like Portugal with Postiga. So much is relied on their midfield.
Russia look quite frightening. Poland will have their work cut out.
Greece and Czech shall be a right old slugfest!

Great to see the Czechs beating Greece here. Want some quality to advance. That rules out Ireland too.
I wont be too popular saying that.. but feic it.

The officiating at this tournament has been dire. Poor Greece.

Yer not wrong there bud. Yes the refs are really bad. Hard to believe at this level.
As for the football, the comp would be better off without them (Greece) imo.
Is that harsh?

to be fair to Cech there he wasn't helped by his defender who didn't hear his call and looked like he would clatter straight into him, but I sure am glad he didn't do that in the latter stages of the CL

Still should have held onto it! Not as if it was fizzed in or anything!

I'm not saying it was great goalkeeping (it wasn't, it was a bad mistake) but the defender really didn't help him there

Defender really messed there up, albeit inadvertently... but Cech should have pushed him out of his road. Its his box.

It looked like the call was probably a late one by Cech. That's why the defender didn't get out of the way till late, not really expecting his GK to come racing out like that! Still poor from both of them!

Czechs should just calm it down. Greece are trying to hype it up. It suits them.

unfortunately, until players start getting hefty bans for diving they'll continue doing it (at the moment the worst they risk is a yellow card, and that's exceedingly rare).

poor decision there by the linesman, the standard of officiating throughout the tournament has been pretty poor IMO.

2-1 FT. The Czechs up and running while Greece's prospects look very bleak with only one game against a good Russian side coming up.

Re: Euro 2012: Day 5 Thread
I quote from the BBC:
I'm afraid to say that there have been some issues between the two sets of fans in Warsaw this afternoon. A march by thousands of Russian fans to mark their national day had to be halted and some missiles were thrown.
About 6,000 police are on duty to keep the rival fans apart, the BBC's Dan Roan reports from Warsaw.
Let's hope we have a great match with no further troubles.

Its all kicking off just before the Poland v Russia game in the streets. Payback time for the former USSR sattelites and it will get worse imo. Its simmering to boiling point.
They should have done what they did in Ned/Bel 2000, to keep the then English, German & Dutch hooligans under control. They handed out free joints.
"Want a fight you foreign basterds!?
"Ah no man Im grand now."
"Funnily enough, me too now man. Fancy a drink and a shot at my GF pal?"
"Only if you let me buy you a drink 1st comrade"
"Id love one mate. And thanks maate yeah?"
Lovely-jubbly...
