Euro 2012: Day 10 Thread
Portugal v Netherlands (19:45, ITV 1)
Denmark v Germany (19:45, ITV 4)
Current Group Standings:
Germany - 6
Portugal - 3
Denmark - 3
Holland - 0
If points are level, sorting criteria is thus:
Equality of points after the group matches
8.07 If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the
following criteria are applied, in the order given; to determine the rankings:
a) higher number of points obtained in the matches among the teams in question;
b) superior goal difference in the matches among the teams in question (if MORE
than two teams finish equal on points);
c) higher number of goals scored in the matches among the teams in question (if
MORE than two teams finish equal on points);
d) superior goal difference in all the group matches;
e) higher number of goals scored in all the group matches;
f) position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking system (see Annex I,
paragraph 1.2.2);
g) fair play conduct of the teams (final tournament);
h) drawing of lots.
And this is what each team needs to do:
Germany (v Denmark)
Win - Secures qualification and top spot.
Draw - Secures qualification and top spot.
Lose - Through with a 3-2 defeat, or a higher-scoring one-goal loss. Otherwise, out if Portugal beat Netherlands, but through if the Portuguese do not claim three points.
Portugal (v Netherlands)
Win - Secures qualification unless Denmark beat Germany 3-2, or by a higher-scoring one-goal margin.
Draw - Secures qualification if Denmark do not beat Germany.
Lose - A one-goal defeat would still see them through if Germany beat Denmark, but any more and they are out.
Denmark (v Germany)
Win - Secures qualification.
Draw - Will only be enough if Netherlands beat Portugal.
Lose - Out.
Netherlands (v Portugal)
Win - Secures qualification if by more than one goal and Germany beat Denmark.
Draw - Out.
Lose - Out.
Final day of Group B. Can Portugal make the final step against Holland? Can the Danes shock Germany? Can Holland conjure up a great escape? Or will Germany capitulate completely? All will be revealed on Sunday night, enjoy!

hang on a minute. am i right in thinking holland are already out, if its down to head to heads, no matter what the result between germany and denmark, holland would be out even if they were to beat portugal? russia went out on head to heads, right?

Re: Euro 2012: Day 10 Thread
i must admit the head to head thing has suprised alot of people tonight being ahead of goal difference. I actually think they should change it so that goal difference is decisive so more teams would be attacking and creates a more entertaining show.
As for Holland, even i'm confused at this very early time of the morning but firstly they have to win by two goals or more, which is already a difficult job because the Portuguese are a fairly good side then Denmark have to lose against Germany - if the Danes get a point, then it is all over - thts how BBC have it.

im not suprised by it, as i believe it should go ahead of goal difference. but surely if russia went out tonight then the dutch must already be gone as they lost to denmark

Re: Euro 2012: Day 10 Thread
James, it's this "mini league" scenario, (possibly). It's not strictly head to head (if we have 3 teams involved).
Assuming GER beat DEN and HOL can beat POR by 2 goals, 3 teams are on 3pts each.First criteria is this..
a) higher number of points obtained in the matches among the teams in question;
So assuming the above HOL, DEN and POR have all taken 3 points off each other ( the mini league), so then we go to GD.Which given the above scores/results leaves HOL in 2nd place and qualification.
Agreed, it's bloody confusing.

I'm not even going to consider it and just watch the matches and hope the simplest thing happens.
Which it didn't last night!

I think it would be crimey, making Germany vs Greece and Portugal vs Czech Republic
Re: Euro 2012: Day 10 Thread
All Holland need to do is win by 2 or more goals and hope Germany beat Denmark. As Crimey says, I hope the simplest thing happens which is Germany beating the Danes and then Portugal beating the Dutch.

Re: Euro 2012: Day 10 Thread
Portugal, Holland and Denmark would all have 3 points.
Holland and Portugal would both have a GD of -1 while Denmark would be -2.
Portugal would have scored 3 to Holland's 2 putting them through.

Never ones to be left out of crowd problems at major tournaments, UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings with the FA over attempted pitch invasion vs Sweden.

I'd rather our fans tried to do a silly pitch invasion than hooliganism, violence or racism.

We just need to explain that we actually picked Carroll in the starting 11.
Come on, Carroll did have a pretty good game. Apart from the silly overenthusiastic tackle that led to the first goal, he did do quite well. Got deep and won the ball back a few times and distributed the ball well as well as a lovely headed goal.

I know, I think I'm just overdefensive with Carroll because he gets a lot of undeserved stick.

So the FA will be investigated because apparently our fans tried to invade the field. I certainly didn't see our fans doing that! What a joke UEFA are, I didn't see the Spanish FA get investigated when their fans racially abused Balotelli.

Call me paranoid but I have always felt that there is an agenda against the English. I didn't see any fans invade the field either.

3 teams are level on points this time.
All 3 have the same GD but Portugal scored most goals in games between the teams.

1-1 Ronaldo makes his mark. It had been coming in fairness, Holland still look light defensively.
Now Portugal are through on points. Holland need 2 more

Just trust me and the BBC, it's easier than explaining it which would take all night! Holland's defence tonight is looking bad.

its relatively simple- portugal would also be on 3 points- so its 3 head to head- all beating one of the other teams- therefore it goes to goal difference

Holland missing Van Bommel greatly. Portugal having free run of the midfield and Holland finding it tough to get good possession.
Ronaldo finding space pretty easily.
That touch was best of the tournament so far. Outrageous.
