51/4 after 11, Davies run out. Excellent stuff.
Meanwhile Worcs finished on 213/2, very impressive total!

55-4 off 12.
Can Wilson and Spriegel rescue us again?
The wind seems to be making life difficult for the batsmen as it aids the 'on a length' bowlers. Can't believe though we're on course for a competitive total.

Finally a good over that goes for 14 thanks to Wilson.
Elsewhere, Durham made 114, Sussex 143, Northants 137, Yorks 170

Good innings by the batsman formerly known as Drinks Carrier.
Still a dismal total but chances are Kent won't now win with 8 overs to spare...

Incredibly we won't get the lowest total today, ending on 116/7. Surely nowhere near enough, although I said that against Essex.

Re: t20 cup
Why can't Surrey bat? Why does Spriegel always play, yet rarely does anything (except in about one match each season)? What's happened to the Viscount this season? Why don't Surrey have any openers in any form of cricket who can put together an opening stand? Answers please!

Kingdaveeagle - answers:
Q1 - don't know - several players out of form and others who are very hit and miss and don't prosper on pitches where there's been a lot of rain. We don't seem flexible at adapting to conditions
Q2 - last season Spriegel was excellent in CB40 - and had again been doing OK this season, especially in the last T20 match where he rescued us
Q3 - bit of a mystery why the Viscount has been written out the script so readily - seems to be linked to signing of Lewis
Q4 - this is a greater mystery. Surrey management always seem to look to select batsmen and then worry afterwards whether any of them are good at opening.

Thanks Corporal!
Re Spriegel - has the occasional good match but too many failures for me. Re openers - bring back Grahame Clinton! Re Linley, never rated him til last season when he was our best bowler, yet this season has hardly played. Very odd. Not surprising we lost today - can't keep posting pathetically low scored and hoping to get away with it.

In the end if you keep getting low scores it will eventually bite you in the bum in the end

Kingdaveeagle - Clinton - a solid, even stolid, batsman ... Adams has seemed very reluctant to play Harinath, probably the nearest equivalent we have today in the squad....

Rory Burns should open in the next game, scored 137 for his club yesterday, or Lancefield.

Great innings from Moeen Ali today, and Hughes again played really well, looks really good at this level.

Didn't get any against Shropshire in a friendly midweek.
I was at the Durham game today, and Durham were poor. Gibbs, Mustard and Stokes all played poor shots to get out and Durham never recovered from their poor start. Myburgh batted quite well, but they left to late to attack and Muchall had an absolute nightmare with the bat. Couldn't get it off the square. Notts cruised it really, and Lumb looked quite tasty at the top of the order to continue his good form. Potential recall for the T20 side?

Buttler was simply brilliant for Somerset vs Northants, HAS to be included in the England T20 team at the world cup, one of the very best T20 players in England.

Particularly for any Hants supporters considering going to the Oval tomorrow for their team's T20 game against Surrey.
As you would probably expect, just to confirm that, following Tom Maynard's death, the match has been postponed to a later date.

It seems that tonights matches - Derbys v Yorks and Hants v Middx - are still going ahead. It will be very difficult for players, spectators and broadcasters to get up for the matches so in some ways I hope that they too are postponed.

I had my ticket, rightly cancelled though. Thoughts go out to Maynards family and friends

To confirm, tonight's match against @Middlesex_CCC will go ahead as scheduled. A minute's silence will be held before the start of play
Interesting. A couple of the players would of been close friends, like Vince + Briggsy, playing for the Lions. Wouldnt be surprised if they missed the game tbh

Yes, I will watch tonight's televised game between Derbys and Yorks because I have nothing else to do, but will struggle to get excited, and wouldn't be surprised if those that knew Maynard closely sit it out.

Surrey's T20 game against Essex at Chelmsford goes ahead on Friday as planned.
Slightly surprised by that but I assume all involved have been consulted and agreed.
Whilst I'm sure Surrey will want to 'do it for Tom', preparation and focus will be incredibly difficult.

For the games against Warwickshire tomorrow and Welsh Dragons on Friday, Somerset will be missing Marcus Trescothick (injured), Craig Kieswetter (England duty), Richard Levi, Albie Morkel (both South Africa duty), George Dockrell, Kevin O'Brien (both Ireland duty), Jamie Overton and Craig Overton (both have exams). Luckily Jos Buttler won't join up with the England T20 squad until Saturday!

I think it's fair to say that I won't be critical at all for the rest of this season of our performances, it all doesn't seem very important any more does it?

While I feel for Surrey and will not blame them if they're bowled out for 14 (...wouldn't be the first time I remember that happening against Essex - http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/468576.html ), I feel for Essex too. Through no fault of their own, they find themselves hosting someone else's wake this evening.
Let's hope that a great game takes place after all, never mind the result. That would be the best possible tribute to Tom M.

Surrey 74 - 3 after 8 overs. Aggressive cameo from Roy. Promoting Cathartic didnt work. Burns and Tremlett in the side.

Evening guys.
Simon - liked your tribute to Tom on the Condolences Book link.
Very pleased that all those from the Surrey squad who could possibly attend tonight - including Hyphen - are at Chelmsford. Excellent effort by Stuart Meaker (a close friend of Tom) to get down from Headingley for this game. The result is pretty immaterial but anything that helps the grieving process is so important.

Surrey end up 144-9 off their 20. Fell away a bit from 65-2 of 6.2 overs but what the heck. In all the circumstances, a very fine effort.

Not to question performances this evening, but why is Nannes playing again? Haven't we any home-grown bowlers who could do better than 10 an over?

Well, we're certainly not short of bowling options tonight. Four seamers (including the Brain) and four front line slow bowlers. Burns also bowls occasionally when not keeping but I don't think he'll be called upon in this game.

Re: t20 cup
Great over by Tremlett to Comber (who's he, CF?). Gives away just a wide and a single off the last ball to keep Comber on strike. Franklin on 50 odd kept at the non-striker's end.
''Comber's seeing it not like a football but a pea'' - Jonny Barran. Brilliant.
