Re: t20 cup
The D/L in T20 question threw up a number of interesting case studies yesterday. However, my only conclusion can be that it is nigh on impossible to set a fair reduced target in a match of 10 overs or less.
Sussex's 104-0 was scored in 9 overs, at 11.55 runs per over. In 20 you would have expected them to make well over 200.
In a full 20 overs that would have been very tough for Surrey to make 200, but it was more realistic that they could keep up with the rate over a shorter period of time.
In setting up a 5 over run chase the basic criteria are that the run rate needs to be at least 11.55, with a bit more added on to cover for the fact that Surrey have more resources, need to score over a shorter period of time and know their target. In that sense 64 at 12.8 an over makes some sense.

I think in t20 duckworth Lewis should take pickets away. For example 60 in 6 overs is easy with 10 wickets but had Surrey only had 5 wickets that could have made it less favorable to the batting side.
Re: t20 cup
That's a good way of looking at it. But quite how to decide what a fair run rate would be for 5 overs in that situation? 12, 13, 14, 15...? As you say it's impossible to be completely fair.Shelsey93 wrote: In setting up a 5 over run chase the basic criteria are that the run rate needs to be at least 11.55, with a bit more added on to cover for the fact that Surrey have more resources, need to score over a shorter period of time and know their target. Re: t20 cup
I would predict Somerset (home advantage and overall a stronger squad), Sussex (just better than Gloucestershire), Yorkshire (very impressive this year; Worcester reliant on a few) and Notts (like the Notts squad; the closest of the matches).
However, anything can happen in this form of the game so don't write anybody off.

The only way we'll win is if 2 out of Solanki, Moeen and Hughes stay for a majority of the innings to give us something decent to defend.
But on an optimistic note, anyone know when and where finals day is? Just in case we get there...

Its at the Swalec Stadium (Cardiff) on 25th August. This is the last season where finals day will be rotated around the Test Match grounds - from 2013 it will move to Edgbaston for at least the next four years as part of a trade-off for Edgbaston missing out on big Tests against SA, Aus and India in consecutive years.

Re: t20 cup
Very difficult to factor in how many wickets you are allowed to lose - as opposed to the side batting second having their progress against the D/L target measured taking into account how many wickets they actually have lost as they go along. For instance if we are talking about a 5 over thrash needing to score at 12 an over or more - realistically, if the side batting second loses a stack of wickets in 5 overs it's highly unlikely they will be scoring at the required rate anyway.Gregers wrote:I think in t20 duckworth Lewis should take pickets away. Hmmm, Albion don't have a game that day. It's not that far from me. Depends how much tickets and of course whether Worcs get there or not!

Bristol City have Cardiff City at home that day. Was gutted when I saw it, one of the top 3 games each year to want to watch. But hey Somerset 1 win away

I think the aspect we would all agree upon is that it's a lot easier to point out flaws in a system than design a perfect one.
Going for the easy option then, I would say the ''bit more added on'' for Surrey to chase was very kind to us. A Sussex pal said to me today that he would have campaigned for Duckworth Lewis to be sacked if the match hadn't been a dead rubber!
Gregers' idea of having less than 10 wickets to chase a target in reduced overs is interesting. In a 10 over (or less) thrash, the loss of a wicket is currently little more harmful to the batting side than a dot ball.
Oh well, so much for the theory. Back to the reality of yesterday. Yardy was an idiot of a captain (apologies but I've been reading too much on the wallpaper site! ) for choosing to bat when he won the toss as it was clearly going to rain and bring Ducky Lew into the mix!

Re: t20 cup
In which case you seem to have misspelled Gloucestershire as S-U-S-S-E-X.
Maybe there's a fault with your keyboard.

Even with my bias opinion its probably the safest quarter to predict (as long as it doesn't rain). Getting tickets tomorrow morning

So Cook and Prior can play in the QFs but Broad, Swann and Bresnan can?
Should be all or none tbh.

Do you have any idea if SA are letting Levi and Morkel are available for Somerset CF? I hope Levi can play, but I can't see the Saffers letting Albie play now he is in the Test squad. Maybe Rehman will get here some time in 2027. Tres might be back though!

Re: t20 cup
The Somerset squad is: Richard Levi, Craig Kieswetter, Marcus Trescothick, Jos Buttler, James Hildreth, Albie Morkel, Lewis Gregory, Pete Trego, Alfonso Thomas, Max Waller, George Dockrell, Craig Meschede and Arul Suppiah.
The Essex squad is: James Foster, Mark Pettini, Alastair Cook, Ravi Bopara ,James Franklin, Owais Shah, Ryan ten Doeschate, Graham Napier, Greg Smith, Tim Phillips, David Masters, Reece Topley, Tymal Mills, Adam Wheater
Harbhajan can't play for Essex because the BCCI don't allow Indian players to play in overseas T20 competitions (apart from Murali Kartik for some reason!)
For Sussex v Gloucestershire, the Sussex squad is as follows:
Amjad Khan, Will Beer, Ben Brown, Joe Gatting, Murray Goodwin, Naveed Arif, Chris Liddle, Matt Machan, Chris Nash, Matt Prior, Michael Rippon, Scott Styris, Luke Wright, Michael Yardy
Gloucester haven't put their squad on their website, but Murali will play.

Re: t20 cup
Its a bit harsh that the england boys just walk back into the team when the main players have got them this far. We had the same thing with KP being available for finals day 2 years ago, we decided against playing him and we won it.

Re: t20 cup
That looks a very strong Somerset squad. Should, if they played on paper, be a comfortable win for us but Bops and Ten do will be the key wickets. I'd back our batting line up to have too much firepower anyway.

Bopara and Prior have played a fair amount of the T20. Cook hasn't but I'm sure will want to prove his T20 worth. Broad, Swann and Bresnan aren't available for their respective quarters.

Seriously peed right now, the sky reception isn't working properly for SS2 at home, its all glitchy, so annoyed with them right now. Me and a mate or 2 said instead of going to the game we'd watch it on sky to save some money... great.

Re: t20 cup
Our game tomorrow, I'm glad Bresnan can't play! Seen as we were pretty much unchanged in the groups, the starting XI will probably be the same as usual.
Solanki
Moeen
Hughes
Cameron
Mitchell
Andrew
Kapil
Scott
D'Olivera
Lucas
Shantry
Would be great to make a finals day, we haven't had much success recently in terms of trophies. And it would give Sky the chance to add another part to their documentary.

Surprised they sent Buttler in before Hildreth as well. Thought they'd send Hildreth in to build the platform for Buttler to come in later, although if Jos gets a ton now I will eat my words!

Don't see any of those, bar maybe Trego, batting for a 50 off 35 though. Plenty of 20 off 10's, but we don't want to not use the overs of end up wasting the death overs with Dockrell and Waller in.
