forget price vs fury. this is the biggest fight in britan today (hopefully)
First topic message reminder :
a lot of talk and speculation about fury vs price has been going on. who's ducking who? fury vacated his titles yet price refused a $100,000 offer to fight on channel 5 against him, so its impossible to say but according to an Irish based site that may not matter anymore.
it has been claimed that price will fight mike the rebel perez on the khan vs garcia undercard. this is great news if it comes about, in my opinion perez is the best heavyweight in the country (price, fury and haye included). his power is phenomenal, and his work rate is higher than any other hw at the moment in Britain. he is small for a heavyweight but showed against tye fields that he doesnt struggle getting inside against a taller opponent. his 1st round KO to win the prizefighter international tournament proved that.
this is the toughest test price has faced by far, and i fight i see him losing. i hope this is the case as although im a fan of price and fury, this guy hasnt had the credit he deserves. for reasons unknown perez has struggled to get fights, managing only a win against zack page, and a win on a US debut since prizefighter. he was supposedly made an offer by the fury camp, which according to mike, they responded to and were ignored.
a win for mike would be huge, opening up fights against either fury or the haye/chisora winner, then maybe onto bigger things.
i imagine people might be backing price in this one, any see a different outcome like me?

Fury granted was born in Manchester, and Perez is about as British as the falkland islanders are Argentinian.eddyfightfan wrote:Nico the gman wrote:Personally hope Price knocks the lot of them out, will always be supporting the British fighter, just my patriotic way.

Good luck to Perez wanting to live in the UK not faulting him, but even with British citizenship he's a Cuban.eddyfightfan wrote:or as chisora?

yeah, change my view, price would beat him easily, fury might get caught but still favor him though.
give him 4-5 fights though, he's got a few good aspects and could become half decent.

So will I,and that's why I hope the very humble, likeable Dave Price goes on to do great things.eddyfightfan wrote:ill favor the individual fighter over pure nationality 9 times out of 10

if someone decides to commit, train and fight for our country ill take them as they come.
i do like price, actually prefer fury although he would probably lose so ill back him all the way.
if however he comes up against perez id have to say he loses, and id rather back a semi english guy with a chance at the big time.

I've seen him a couple of times and he looks decent. They'll both stay well clear of him I reckon.
assume you watched tonight? Towers is absolutely terrible. Hopeless.
Calling him terrible is praise. He was worse than that.

In response to Az. You say you don't gamble, but if it's as 'cut and shut' as you say it is about Perez KOing Price then surely it's more of a calculated risk rather than a gamble?
You compare Prices character to that of the KBros but what you fail to factor in is that he's british and one thing we do which we do in droves is get behind our boxers unlike the ukraines/germans so you can't really compare the twos potential effects in the boxing community. We would support Price all the way especially if the Scouse contingent get behind him.

Shark
I don't gamble in any way shape or form. I could have a sure fire thing on the horses with all other horses knobbled, I still wont gamble or take the calculated risk. I don't see what the issue is. Some people drink, others dont. Its no biggee.
I want the HW champ to transcend the sport across the globe. I don't want a British version of K2. To be fair, Perez is as dull as dishwater also. That's why I wanted haye to win. He has charisma by the bucketload. He divides opinion. But one thing for sure is that people will talk about him one way or another and boxing. Unfortunately we talk about his toe.

i dont know how you can say perez is dull? and he is certainly better than towers, he leveled tony (the french guy) in one round. quicker than helenius had him out. he's also stopped 12 of his 18 opponents.

alma wrote:David haye is actually a pretty dull fighter and bad for boxing. All of his heavyweight fights were unbelievably anti-climactic after all his talk. At least Ali backed up his talk in the ring.
Come on. That's unfair. Ali was a one off. Haye talked the talked but limped out due to a bad toe. Lets hope the Chisora fights offers something different.

Admittedly I haven't seen much of Perez, but the little I have seen of him I have been impressed somewhat. He is just a boring guy.

Haye is a decent trash talker and could probably sell anthrax.
He's only getting hate because of his loss to Wladimir, even if he beat Wladimir, you would all say he was over the hill anyway

Haye is a character. Boxing needs characters to gain more fan interest. If boxing was full of so called gentlemen it would die.

The Klitschko brothers are so called gentlemen and it doesn't stop them filling football stadiums. How many other fighters can fill arenas like the brothers? Their viewing figures on German TV and across Eastern Europe are phenomenal.
I love a bit of trash talking and bravado as long as the guy backs it up and that is where Haye has let himself down.

Otkke filled arenas. Germans would watch in droves insects fighting as long as they were german insects.

The Klitschkos aren't German and neither is Marco Huck or Arthur Abraham and they fill bigger arenas than most fighters over here or in America.

alma wrote:Agreed. Bruno and Hatton were good guys (in public) and not into talking trash but they were way more popular than haye.
Hatton was exciting and he got football fans involved. Bruno was during terrestrial TV and he was hyped to the max. Also he was Our Frank, the loveable giant. To me he was simple a fool. Couldn't stand the guy. But its all good. He was in the press and made headlines and drew opinions.

They're German based and the Germans have taken them in as such.
Do you think those guys would fill arenas anywhere other than eastern europe?

Probably not but their isn't many fighters around who could sell tickets all over the World. Pacquiao would do well in Asia but he is Asian. I'm not convinced they could fill arenas around the World.

Come on. Otke would be an undercard fighter at best. Even Ricky Burns would sell more tickets.
Those guys would fill arenas anywhere in eastern europe. Tickets would be cheaper mind.

Tickets aren't cheap for Klitschko fights though. Mayweather and Pacquiao have both had to give tickets away in Vegas.

Sorry I meant tickets would be cheap if fights were held in Eastern Europe.

No doubt they would be and someone like Mayweather or Pacquiao could fill an arena on a one off occasion but I'm not convinced they could do it with the regularity the K Bros do.

the klitchskos are they top 2 of the division and have been for a long time, i think they earned their fans rather than instanley captured them the way some big talking brash fighters can. neither have they put on that one performance that could capture fans immediatly.
