Euro 2012: Day 10 Thread
First topic message reminder :
Portugal v Netherlands (19:45, ITV 1)
Denmark v Germany (19:45, ITV 4)
Current Group Standings:
Germany - 6
Portugal - 3
Denmark - 3
Holland - 0
If points are level, sorting criteria is thus:
Equality of points after the group matches
8.07 If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the
following criteria are applied, in the order given; to determine the rankings:
a) higher number of points obtained in the matches among the teams in question;
b) superior goal difference in the matches among the teams in question (if MORE
than two teams finish equal on points);
c) higher number of goals scored in the matches among the teams in question (if
MORE than two teams finish equal on points);
d) superior goal difference in all the group matches;
e) higher number of goals scored in all the group matches;
f) position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking system (see Annex I,
paragraph 1.2.2);
g) fair play conduct of the teams (final tournament);
h) drawing of lots.
And this is what each team needs to do:
Germany (v Denmark)
Win - Secures qualification and top spot.
Draw - Secures qualification and top spot.
Lose - Through with a 3-2 defeat, or a higher-scoring one-goal loss. Otherwise, out if Portugal beat Netherlands, but through if the Portuguese do not claim three points.
Portugal (v Netherlands)
Win - Secures qualification unless Denmark beat Germany 3-2, or by a higher-scoring one-goal margin.
Draw - Secures qualification if Denmark do not beat Germany.
Lose - A one-goal defeat would still see them through if Germany beat Denmark, but any more and they are out.
Denmark (v Germany)
Win - Secures qualification.
Draw - Will only be enough if Netherlands beat Portugal.
Lose - Out.
Netherlands (v Portugal)
Win - Secures qualification if by more than one goal and Germany beat Denmark.
Draw - Out.
Lose - Out.
Final day of Group B. Can Portugal make the final step against Holland? Can the Danes shock Germany? Can Holland conjure up a great escape? Or will Germany capitulate completely? All will be revealed on Sunday night, enjoy!

Depends what position really. I would say Ronaldo is playing well but is wasteful, even if he doesn't grab one but causes problems and Portugal win, it's a stormer.

Someone on the rugby thread saying Dagg shouldn't have been binned yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqJ-KxVMRPc&list=UULDuHINtL5GN1PMroNv-hxQ&index=1&feature=plcp 1:37:26 I don't see how it isn't. Lead with the shoulder.
On the soccer, Portugal look capable of grabbing another one. Denmark should hold firm.

German still have harsh feeling about getting moved out of Holland I guess.
2-1 Ronaldo. He had plenty of time, took it very well. I think he might now qualify for a stormer performance

What an easy second goal for Ronaldo! Complete breakdown of Dutch defence. They are not helping their cause.

Pass made it, much like his first. Ronaldo has stood up tonight when questions have been asked so fair play.

Germany score again, that's probably sealed it for them and Portugal.

Re: Euro 2012: Day 10 Thread
The Dutch need at least 3 goals in about 13 minutes and hope Germany will score another goal there. Not going to happen for Holland.
Portugal is through. The only question is if Denmark scores another goal and knocks out Germany.
Tragedy for Euro to lose Russia, Holland, and who knows Germany.

They never looked solid defensively this tournament, and Robben, RVP and Sneijder have been awful.

Sums up Van persie's tournament. Arsenal haven't done any harm by not having his contract done.

You must be very proud of your adopted team Hibbz, you're probably belting out the German anthem as we speak.

It's because the two host nations are both top seeds when really they should be bottom seeds.

Two quarter finals almost confirmed then:
Czech Republic v Portugal (could be good)
Germany v Greece (a one-sided pounding)

We've had the pride/proud debate old bean. Besides it's been all about Portugal tonight, Germany result was never in doubt.

Re: Euro 2012: Day 10 Thread
Netherlands are out losing every game. They had to win tonight and failed to even get a draw, which is embarrassing for a team of their quality.
They have fallen far from being runners up at the World Cup.
Van Marwijk to be sacked?

Re: Euro 2012: Day 10 Thread
If Croatia shock the World tomorrow and beat Spain (I think they will), coming runner-up in Group D would be better as your route to the final is Croatia then Czech/Portugal then final. Much easier than Italy then Germany then final which is what happens if you win the group.

Re: Euro 2012: Day 10 Thread
I mean under his leadership they made a WC final and stormed qualifying.
RVP, Sneidjer and Robben have been awful, not sure what the manager can do when his best 3 attackers just dont perform.

GSC holland are like england but 10 times worse(in reagrds to reactionary press and pressure)
It is also very much part of the managers job to make sure his players take there game with them. He picked players that are fighting each other- he is gone! id put money on it

Not sure hes the man to take the fall for some world class players being very ordinary.

Ok.
Imagine this was an england team full of stars, and all we heard was selection issues and we lost 3 games in qualy.
what would happen to the manager?
Holland are as i have said before ,even worse than england when it comes to pressure and press..

Re: Euro 2012: Day 10 Thread
The players always look too much to play it to Rooney when he plays, thats why I hope he is a sub. The midfield are not creative enough to pass it to someone else and Rooney gets all the pressure. Might aswell stick with the same players for Ukraine.
