Now that the dust has settled
First topic message reminder :
Right I think I speak for most of us here.
It was a brave effort from all teams at the weekend against the BIG three SH teams but once again it has ended in three defeats. OK these guys did have home advantage and yes they are ranked higher than all of us in the IRB rankings (not that they are relevant! For the time being anyway ) but I'm beginning to get fed up with the NH teams failing to beat these guys.
Wales should have won, Ireland were so close to pulling it off and England still make stupid mistakes that cost them time and time again so it's hard to say if we are improving or not.
So I ask the 606vs public to voice their opinions on what we need to do to beat these guys.
IMO I don't think we believe in ourselves enough, the SH guys always seem to have a slight swagger about them.

Don't be too hard on him, I know Eng fans would be celebrating a 0.05 lead.
He is rather limited, more to be pittied than scolded really...
England on the end of a cricket score? Yeah, just like last week, when they were down 15 points at half time, got to wthin 4 by sheer dog and lost by 9 (a not disimilar margin to that which Wales lost by the week before, against an Oz team half knackered having had to slug it out in the mud with Scotland). The same Oz team that this week were down to 14 men for 10 minutes and had a crocked kicker by the way.

And it's also a big mystery considering he's listening to 606ers whilst doing it! Many of us don't even speak kindergarten grade English!

World Of Pain, is ok, doing his best in (I guess) not his cradle langauge. My written French is poor.
But general spelling by UK users on 606 can be particularly atrocious, maybe due to 'phonetic' learning ?
[Don't even mention the grammar].
For example:
There, their.
Too, to, two.
Ok, so they sound the same. But please look them up & pick the correct one for the context.

Re: Now that the dust has settled
Tanks fer dat update on the grammer, tree.
I think the spelling issue is absolutely coming not from a lack of knowledge but from too much. When you intimately know a language and type it quickly and know all the slang and the little turns of phrase........well, you can trip yourself up a lot with fingers and unconscious thoughts. Your mind wants the idea out quickly not the semantics of it. Fluent speakers/writers don't care too much for grammar because they know they can be understood. Learners try to be accurate because they fear they never will be.

Secret,
thanks, perfectly understand your beautifully written point.
I admit to being a little OCD on spelling, so may post a few more examples from time to time. (typos are different, as I am aslo a 'carp' typist)

I just cannot tell with Biltong as he can claim 'Afrikaans' and I could not argue with that, anymore than England can argue with the last two test results.

Oh I know what you're talking about. I'm an habitual "there" "their" and "they're" guy and it does frustrate me when I look over my guff and see those mistakes looming. I know the differences obviously but my mind still wants to make the mistakes. But then again, I do think very quickly and type quickly lest my mind gets impatient, so I'm conscious that my mind flushes out info rather than delivering it But yes, the their/they're/there kinda thing is annoying, even for someone like me who does it!

Re: Now that the dust has settled
I didn't realise my one little comment had started a storm of correct grammar comments!
I only meant it off the cuff as AWOP seems similar to a previous poster and his posts seem to very from very poor English to almost perfect colloquial/everyday English (ie a few mistakes but what would be expected from someone being informal)

You mean to say he could be ambidextrous? I think I'll let him know that the next time I see him. I'll tell him that if he communicates with the right side of his brain he'll have perfect English...the left side is the continuing pigeon English skit bit.

TBH that sounds more schizophrenic than ambidextrous, and that being the case I don't think he'd need you to mention it to him, he may have already noticed!

Well, yes. 'Ambidextrous' though was more a continuing salute to the confused grammar and lingo discussion than an attempt at a genuine diagnosis of Mr pain I don't think I'd attempt a real diagnosis of pain except to say I think he's a joker.

Ireland have got to know in the back of their minds that the golden opportunity to take the scalp of the AllBlacks has gone, they ain't going to give Ireland an inch this coming test.
England look likely to be on the end of a cricket score this week.

For once HERSH you are bang on mate!
Wales up by 1, 20 to go Aus down due to a yellow card, on the verge of a famous victory and what does any SH team do in that situation? Go for the jugular! What did Wales do? Try to close the game out, bring on one of their best broken play runners and he's told to boxkick the ball away!!

They didn't give them an inch in the past test - Ireland took it. Now when Wales finally beat Australia - and yep, they might do it next weekend after four recent attempts - then they'll be finally on an equal footing with some of us in that department until next time we all meet our SH firends again in combat.

I think it's an attitude problem. Scotland never try in the 6N but save their big games for the ranking points on offer for the SH sides. Wales, Ireland and England try their hearts out in the 6N and have nothing left in the tank for June or November.
Sorry, not used to HERSH posting something that is not provocative so I thought I'd balance out the cosmos.

Not so sure now, Borat makes more sense, and with better spelling than W O Pain. Maybe they are not the same person after all.
