First topic message reminder :

This is utterly pointless and silly. Just a bit of fun whilst I sift through emails.

The idea is to take a theme e.g. superheros then make a 15/22 out of people (or animals or objects) within that theme with a line for each player explaining why you put them there. If the theme fits, you can obviously use real players, but the whole point is that you needn't.

e.g.

15- Iron Man- Great in the air, a maverick with some pace. Not good with others so out of the way here.
14- The Flash- I'm not even going to try and explain this one. Fastest man ever. Maybe weak in defence though?
13- Daredevil- blind but with supertuned senses so it doesn't matter. Can find gaps in any defence with his quick feet. Will never ever buy a dummy.
12- Captain America (C.)- Leader of men, defensive organiser. Huge hits with his enhanced strength. Impenetrable defence.
11- Human Torch- a real flier with pace to burn. Too hot to touch. Insert other fire puns.
10- Superman (k)- Ultimate allrounder and leader.
9- Spideman- great reactions and Spidersense. Nimble to exploit any gaps. Great distribution. Mouthy.
8- Thor- Tall, well built to do the work in the tight. Large work rate. Honest if not clever. Huge hitter, big carrier
7- Batman. Does unseen dirty work with dubious methods. Tough. All-round skill set. Always where he is needed and adapts to overcome any foe
6- Wolverine. Ultimate abrasive "chopper". Indestructible. Hard as nails. Makes the hits and shines even in teams of superstars.
5- Beast- got the power in the tight and the agility to jump in the lineout
4- Mr Fantastic- Untouchable in the lineouts with his stretchy limbs.
3- Thing- powerful and brutal but with some technical expertise.
2- Green Arrow- Great marksman, rarely misses.
1- Incredible Hulk- Uses his brute strength to crush opponents in the scrum and the loose. Aggression and discipline issues

Manager- Professor X. He'd read the opposition like a book. Impact sub- Deadpool. Cheerleader- Invisible woman.

Dany in the showers would be awesome Smile

I'm gonna add one more whilst I struggle to get to sleep on holiday-

Video game 15 - I've stuck mainstream and I've played v few games in the last 5 years so probably mostly from my childhood era

15- Dante (Devil May Cry)- agile, great at dealing with aerial attacks, good accuracy and lethal on attack
14- Sonic - pure unstoppable speed
13- Link (legend of zelda)- cutting edge in attack, heroic in defence, surprising turn of pace and big boot, looks like a pansy but can take a hit
12- Masterchief (Halo)- masterful leader of the defensive line. Hard to take down. Accurate from all ranges and capable of boshing off much larger players at close quarters
11- Ezio Auditore di Firenze (Assassin's Creed)- rapid, nimble, comes off his wing out of nowhere. Incredible finisher. Fantastic in the air and in defence. Incredibly hard to man-mark
10- Mario- glorious allrounder. Bit pudgy but still has legs and football pedigree demonstrates he can kick. Presumably good at passing as has good enough sports skills and hand to eye coordination to play tennis, golf, basketball, baseball etc to a high standard. Capable of fantastic off the cuff flair
9- Yoshi- good partnership with 10. Looks after him well with good service. Gobbles up loose ball and tenacious in the tackle.
8- Donkey Kong- big carrier, agile so a lineout option. May be over aggressive
7- Solid Snake (MGS) - cheater extraordinaire. Stealthy, good skills in the tackle too, and the eye to be a top linkman.
6- Kazuya Mishima (Tekken)- brutal, strong and fast. Chops down opponents, no scruples and can play like a demon.
5- Nightmare (Soul Calliber)- tall, powerful enforcer. Very physical presence.
4- Sagat (Street Fighter)- tall and long limbed for the lineout. Also very strong in the tight and pugnacious.
3- Machoke (pokemon) - technical and strong but still not too large to scrummage.
2- Kratos (God of War)- vicious, a terror in the loose. Great in contact, I think he'd throw his darts too
1 - Bowser- big, powerful lump, underachieves though

Big law firm XV

15 White Collar Crime - fantastic defence
14 Corporate - sharp (almost too sharp for own good)
13 Estate Planning - charismatic, deceptive pace (just watch if rich person on death bed needs will)
12 Probate - solid, unflappable (even in the face of money grabbing relatives)
11 Commercial - quick off the mark (if you tell him his fee is over the try line)
10 Tax - tactically astute, always ahead of the game
9 Tea boy - fantastic service (second in command of the whole organisation in reality)

1 Residential Conveyancing - nothing moves until he is ready
2 take your pick (there'll be 'hookers' in every department!)
3 Commercial Conveyancing - hold up the scrum, he could hold up the entire building sector!
4 Senior partner - has scaled the heights of the greasy pole, the line out will be no problem
5 his secretary - she scaled a different pole, but ditto.
6 Medical Negligence - very used to dealing with the blind side
8 Debt collection - will keep going and going and going...and going
7 litigation - rules, rules, rules. Rules are guidelines not tramlines.

Animal XV...it's actually really difficult to come up with a topic you know enough about! I've kept it to land animals. Aerial and water-based creatures playing rugby might require a leap too far for the imagination...

15. Leopard (k)- Bit of a loner, used to keeping to himself and hunting on his own as the last line of defence. Strong coming into the line with a powerful leg for booting it all the ay back.

14. Cheetah- Bred on the African plains, the fastest player in the world. Raw speed when going in straight or arcing lines, can be outfoxed (animal pun intended) by a more fleet footed opponent (see 11).

13. Pony- Dashing good looks, pace, poise, and strength. Temperamental, however, and can be a bit precious if desires not pandered (not Panda...) to. When on form, brilliant, but when off, dire. Kicking game ranges from world class to Mule-like.

12. Lion (captain)- Pace, power, intelligence, ability to organise, and 'The King' of animals. Got it all, including really great hair and several women at the same time.

11. Antelope- Not as quick as his fellow winger, but not far behind. What he concedes in pace to the Cheetah, he makes up for in trickery. Makes the likes of Shane and Quade look cumbersome with his nimble footwork. A little lightweight, though, and spindly legs make for a weak kicking game. Suffers from nerves, and with some justification.

10. Chimpanzee- The brains of the team. Has a level of understanding that teammates can only dream of having. Good dexterity and ability to work with others makes him the perfect playmaker. Doesn't fancy the close contact work, though, and prefers to sit and direct rather than take it up himself. Decent kicking game, but not top drawer.

9. Coyote- Sly and cunning, he is 'wily' by nature. The kind of player you hate to play against, has a bad reputation amongst supporters, but he doesn't care. Effective.

8. Grizzly Bear- Monster carrier. Will tear opposition players' faces off . The kind of 'go to' player when on the back foot. Doesn't have amazing acceleration, and can be cumbersome when handling.

7. Jackal- Techincally too small, but the pun is too good to ignore.

6. Tiger- Lurks in the shadows unseen, but well respected by teammates, if not a little feared. Ferocious temper when riled, and rare for opponents to get past him. Could carry more, though, and prone to going missing for parts of the game.

5. Giraffe- Lineout ability is unmatched, a frequent nuisance on opposition ball. Yet extreme height makes for poor centre of gravity, and thus can spill ball when put under pressure at lineout/restarts. When carrying, chopping the legs takes him down, but doesn't remove the possibility of the long limbs finding a teammate with an offload.

4. Shire Horse- The very definition of workhorse. Think Boxer from Animal Farm-levels of dedication to the cause. Will toil for 80 minutes.

3. Elephant- The rock on which the scrum is built. Does little in the loose apart from providing a grey wall which opponents do no pass. Can be a little docile, but his skill, intelligence and the respect he engenders from teammates as an elder statesman of the squad makes his position priceless.

2. Warthog- Bustling in the loose, a good, offensive carrier of the ball with an ability to puncture the opposition's defence. Surprising pace, short arms and eyes on the side of the head make lineout throwing a bit of a lottery.

1. Bull- Raging power and aggression. Disciplinary issues, and not the most technically gifted, but a beast, and one capable of bullying the opposition. Physically sublime, difficult to bring down when on the charge.

Replacements:
Forwards:
16. Pig- The intelligent, institutionally bred, modern front rower. Highly intelligent and capable, yet lacks the old school guile of his predecessors. Bred for purpose.
17. Hippo- Pace, power, aggression. A perfect replacement to come on and bully the opposition.
18. Polar Bear- Highly effective and versatile player, can cover second and back rows. Only good for the replacements, however, due to inability to play for long periods in normal conditions. Better on the highveld, but better still in the Arctic North (Murrayfield).
19. Wolf- Loves hunting in a pack, and uses the cunning to outwit larger opponents. Probably the deserving starting poacher, but...come on...it's a jackal.
Backs:
20. Hyena- The Mike Phillips option of a larger, slower, but equally abrasive 9 to wear down the opposition and ref. Bad reputation.
21. Stag- Exudes class and respect. Has skill and guile, an effective playmaker. Thunderbolt when running front on, with a blistering (splintering?) hand/antler-off.
22. Wildebeest- Spindly legs make easy to chop, but when going at pace is a devastating finisher and regularly ploughs through opponents head on when at top speed. Not the most glamorous, but effective. Poor handling game, and prone to nervous errors. Alex Cuthbert, in looks and ability.

So there it is. Decided not to go for Ampibians (crocodile/alligator would be good choices).

15. Tyler The Creator(saw the episode of punk'd and seemed to have a fair bit of athleticism, usefull for catching high balls)
14.Eazy-E(Speedy winger, knows when to go for a chance through experience)
13.Tupac Shakur(dosent let his smaller size stop him and can tango with the best, silky runner)
12.Dr.Dre(C)(Always knows what to say to inspire the troops)
11.Akon(Raw pace and always willing to go for a gap or be used as a crash baller with his large size)
10.Warren G(K)(Always cool and calculating, rarely makes mistakes)
9.Ice T(Plenty of aggression, nice passing and tactical genius, a lovely scrum half)
8.LL Cool J(Perfect size for a ball carrier, the 'go to man' for some hard yards)
7.Kanye West(Fools everyone with his demenor but while the opposition have a lapse of concentration, he is bursting onto the stage and steals the ball, a truly disguised ground hog)
6.Flo Rida(Puts in bone shuttering hits and carriers well too)
5.The Game(A nasty operator few would relish to go up against)
4.Snoop Dog(A perfect foil to the Game, excels in the lineout)
3.Nortorious BIG(Huge man with a ferocious scrummaging game, also helps Snoop in the lineout with his huge strength)
2.50 Cent(Favoured over Ice Cube because of his pin point line out throwing)
1.Timbaland(The strong man of the team, helping in rucks and mauls,a truly invaluable but silent master of the dark arts)

1- Tuba
Big guy with a hard edge. Tough and capable of grinding out some big performances.

2- Timpani
Big bulky hooker but still low to the ground. Capable of good speeds and varying pitch.

3- Organ
Sheer mass (get it?) and able to get low. Would anchor the scrum very well but could be a bit slow in the loose.

4- Double Bass
Quite tall and very bulky in the engine room. A powerful presence and the rock of a team.

5- Clarinet
Very wide range capable of varying volume and agility and strength would be a great foil to an enforcer at 4.

6- French Horn
A bit of an enforcer and following in the Dusatoir (French) mould of getting through a lot of work with strength greater than its size would suggest.

7- Saxophone
Able to slink it's way in to all the parts of the breakdown and play on the edge.

8- Trumpet
Able to explode of the bass of the scrum. Serious drive and ability to make its presence felt in the tight. Able to reach high as a lineout option too.

9- Flute
Nimble and cheeky and a bit of a loud mouth realistically. Yappy so and so.

10- Piano
The grandmaster of the team and best able to move the team in to the right areas of the pitch. A bit of a unit in defence too.

11- Violin
Capable of huge speeds and very agile

12- Electric Guitar
Need something very direct and yet capable of subtleties when required, can up the aggression levels in midfield by kicking distortion and driving through the defence.

13- Viola
Underrated and very versatile be it in doing the basics in harmony or creating a flash of brilliance to unlock a defence. Also quick.

14- Side drum
Seriously abrasive and able to appear in the line out of nowhere. Can be quick and yet powerful, a bit of a match winner I'd say!

15- Picollo
Able to get up high to take those aerial bombs better than all others. Very agile and can through pierce the line. Bit weak on the 1 on 1 tackling however.

Lord of the Rings XV

1.Balrog (massive demon making up a formidable frontrow)
2.Watcher (plenty of tentacles to throw the ball)
3.Mines of Moria cave troll (plenty of power)
4.Treebeard - he's a walking tree, enough said.
5.Witch king (at 7ft tall he's perfect for the role, also an enforcer with his imposing might.)
6.Lurtz (ruthless, fierce and able to make huge hits.
7. Saruman (master of the dark arts)
8.Boromir (strong and brave, fighting to the last.)
9.Gollum (mouthy little creature, tough to catch)
10.Gandalf (can conjure up a bit of magic)
11.Sharku - riding his Warg he'll be tough to catch.
12.Shelob - will be good at getting over the gainline
13.Aragorn - brave,strong and smart
14.Legolas (swift and elusive)
15.Sauron (no one is getting past him)

Interesting team for LotR. I might consider:
Frodo at 7-doing the 'unseen' work at the breakdown and like McCaw seemingly invisible to the ref
Gimli at 2- typical hookers physique and good thrower (with axes at least)
For a more skills based backline Elrond at 12- intelligent player, very experienced.
Oh and maybe Grima Wormtongue at 9 to really get in the refs ear and win penalties.

Star Wars XV

1 - Jabba the Hutt (the immovable object - vital at scrum time)
2 - Yoda (small but surprisingly strong and can throw the ball with great accuracy)
3 - Gamorrean Guard (not the brightest but very strong)
4 - Chewbacca (height and strength - the ultimate lock)
5 - Darth Vader (tall but doesn't need to jump - just plucks the ball out of the air with the force. Also chokes anyone who comes near him)
6 - General Grievous (quick and his 6 arms would be awesome at the breakdown)
7 - Jawa (small in stature but a true scavenger)
8 - Rancor (what he lacks in speed he makes up for in size and strength)
9 - Young Obi Wan Kenobi (surprising speed and can outthink most opposition)
10 - Qui Gon Jinn (telepathic connection with Obi Wan would dictate the game)
11 - Jango Fett (solid all rounder whose jet pack makes him uncatchable)
12 - Han Solo (the leader of the pack - can charm any ref)
13 - Luke Skywalker (excellent all rounder who can bring anyone into the game with a wave of his hand)
14 - Boba Fett (see Jango)
15 - Darth Maul (good footwork and excellent hands)

I'm bound to have forgotten someone but i think a pretty damn good team

13.Aragorn - brave,strong and smart

Your fullback might have a bit of a defensive weakness against Shane Williams or other hobbits, bit of a blindspot for the all seeing eye.

Greek Pantheon 15- sorry I'm tipsy

15- Dionysus- a maverick, surprising savage in attack. Can be ripped to ahred and yet come back stronger. Has moments of madness and artistic brilliance and The epitome of the unpredictable.
14- Ares- instinctive, impulsive and aggressive. Very direct but powerful. Hits hard. Can be outpositioned and outsmarted but hard to outgun.
13- Athene- calm, tactical and quick-thinking. Solid in defence and innovative in attack. Helps structure backs moves
12- Hercules- incredibly strong and brave in the tackle. Heroic in defence
11- Hermes- the heavenly/olympian messenger. Rapid to fulfil his role, he is also creative and sly
10- Apollo- great accuracy, as well as a subtle gentle touch. Capable of artistic creation. The ultimate golden boy.
9- Pan- a trickster god who never lets go. Also a conductor of others who can lead the tune of an entire team. Can incite panic in the other team with his quick taps.

7- Hades- clever, capable of torturing the opposition halfbacks and the master of killed ball at the breakdown. Part of a great, if sometimes quarrelsome, backrow with his brothers
6- Poseidon- Earth-shaking in the tackle, fluid and tempestuous in attack, capable of being an unstoppable storm ball in hand. Holds a grudge

WWF / WWE Wrestlers XV

15 The Rock - Who else would you want as the last line of defense?

14 Bill Goldberg - Well would you want to tackle him? censored

13 Mr Perfect - World Class athlete will always make the right decision!

12 Stone Cold Steve Austin - Adds a bit of aggression to the midfield!

11 Brock Lesnar - Goldberg on 1 wing, Brock on the other, good luck with that opposition!

10 Shawn Michaels - the show stopper who else?

9 Bret Hart - The excellence of execution might just give Gareth Edwards a run for his money at scrum half!

8 Hulk Hogan - What ya gonna do when Hulkamania rumbles all over you!

7 Ultimate Warrior (275lbs), (6'2") - Da, da, da, da, da, du, du, du (ah you know the music, lol)

Head Coach - Jimmy Hart, he'd be great with that megaphone

Lions Literary XV:

15. Jonathon Swift - runs swiftly through little people. Great defence
14. Oscar Wilde - his fast side-step & brilliant quips, would leave them standing & speechless
13. James Joyce - a pure artist as a young man. BOD-like. So Julie says.
12. CS Lewis - so fast, he'd have them thinkin they were lost in Narnia
11. William Butler Yeats - the wing among the reeds. Denis Hickie-esque
10. Dylan Thomas - Welsh invention. Barry John with magical words.
9. Mary Shelley - A nightmare to play against. A real bolter.

1. Oliver Goldsmith - he'd stoop to conquer.
2. Xaviera Hollander (grannie was a Paddie, so IQ) - she'd swallow her opposition and wouldn't spit them out.
3. Brendan Behan - he'd curse, beat the sheet out of and out-drink the opposition.
4. George Bernard Shaw - great arms on the man. All round smartarse and Freethinker. Reads the line out well too.
5. Rabbie Burns - pure poetry with sweet hands. Could make calls no one else understands. That's a plus.
6. Charles O Dickawns - great expectations from this guy. Likes to take long descriptive walks on the blindside.
7. Bram Stoker - a groundhog with back-row bite. He'd suck the life out of the opposition.
8. Bill Shakespeare - Original No. 8. Rewrote the position. Created the position in fact. No better Bard.

Love it!
