Wimbledon Draw
Hi,
The D-Day has come. Wimbledon Draw is only couple of hours away!!
Big question is: Whom does Djokovic draw in his half? The six time Wimbledon Champion or The Great Scot? Who is more preferred and Why?
Being from eastern part of the Globe (viz. India) I am waiting eagerly since today morning for the Wimbledon Draw to be announced. Please update this thread once anyone gets info about it.
BTW, when is the draw scheduled. Any idea?

Re: Wimbledon Draw
Djokovic has a 50% chance to draw Federer. 50% though seems a far bigger chance than I ever thought it was. If I had that same 50% chance on Roulette I would play non-stop.

What?
This is an unbelievable draw for Feds.
tipsarevic followed by djokovic in QF and SF.
He couldn't have got a easier draw.

Hewitt v Tsonga. Has the makings of a 5 setter.
Ferrero v Djokovic.

Ferrero V Nole wont be upto much I dont think :-/. I dont want to take anything away from Ferrero but Nole will have his number on grass and deal with him in straights I think.
Hewitt V Tsonga That will be worth watching!

Is that Hewitt who got crushed by Karlovic recently?

Brian Baker Vs Andy Roddick!
The Comeback Kid Vs Goback Uncle!!
That would be a great matchup. Somehow I pity Baker, he is always drawn against tougher oppenents.

Oh dear, the conspiracy guys are gonna have a field day now that Fed is in Djoko's half YET AGAIN. Getting Tipsy rather than Tsonga or Berdych must be good for Rog, no?

Karlovic hasn't won 2 matches in a row since February - I don't seem him getting past Murray to the 3rd round.

There's always a first.
Though on the Wimbledon grass an upset isn't on the cards, though I will be bricking it if any of the sets go to TB.

Re: Wimbledon Draw
I have highlighted the phrase that I believe to me misleading: it is foolish quoting Murray's current age for an event occurring nearly six years ago.The BBC wrote:"Murray and Davydenko have never met on grass before and the Russian won their only previous meeting at a grand slam tournament, knocking the 25-year-old out of the US Open in 2006.
Davydenko, who has never got beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon, finished in the top five of the world rankings for four years running up to 2008, reaching third in 2006, but has struggled with injuries in recent years. "

Re: Wimbledon Draw
I actually think Djokovic has the easiest quarter...full of spaniards and claycourters. Ferrero wont offer resistance on grass, Harrison/Lu R2 should be straights, Stepanek R3, R4 hard to predict but should be straight forward...only Berdych at QF is going to be a real test.
Federer has Llodra R2 which could be tricky, maybe Muller R3, maybe Simon or PHM R4, Isner at QF. Not too bad a draw though. Nalby/Tipsarevic is a showcase R1 match for sure in that quarter.
Murray has a tougher draw...Anderson maybe R3, Raonic/Cilic R4, Delpo QF.
Nadal has an interesting quarter, re: recent form horses.... Kohlschreiber/Haas is an interesting R1, as is Goffin/Tomic - battle of the upcomers...Belluci is probably ok R1 - depends which Bellucci turns up, may face Dodig R2 (did ok at Nottingham), Haas in R3, Dolgo R4 (always think Dolgo should do well on grass with his variety), Tsonga QF which is no gimme at all. SF could be Murray/Delpo/Raonic.

I don't think it went all the way to three, lkv2, although I do remember Laura taking a healthy lead in the opener, only to let it slip on a TB.
There was a distinct look of anxiety mixed with bemusement on Sharapova's face at the quality of Laura's rallying that day, and I think she was mightily relieved to come through.

I often think that tales of 'tough draws' fro Murray are grossly exaggerated and it's the one thing I criticise the Beeb for
However, this time, it is correct
I'm not too worried about the opening two rounds, although in fairness they are certainly juicy
It's some of the later ties, that worry me - given the Scots current poor form
However, let's be honest - if he's on form then he should be meeting Rafa, even if that means Del Potro or Ferrer

I actually think it's better this way as he's always far more focused meeting players who's game he knows and who he's beaten before. I'm also not convinced that Roanic's movement is great for grass, although his serve will be!!
Serve might be nullified by the mixed weather though, which means that the potentially slippy grass is going to be a nightmare for any poor movers of which most of his potential rivals are - so who knows
As usual with the Top 4, it's about what they do

It is a mightily tough draw for Andy - certainly the toughest of the top four seeds. He must hit the ground running as the threats are there for all to see.

True, Fed has got an easier draw until the semis @ Wimbledon although couldn't it be argued Nadal had an easy draw until the final of RG just a fortnight ago...? Certainly remember many posters commenting on it at the time! Seems fair in many respects.

Re: Wimbledon Draw
Davydenko first up for Murray shouldn't be too hard really. Never been much good on grass and well past his best. The next 3 rounds are tricky, though they're mostly big servers which Murray normally does well against. Can't complain too much about the QF: Ferrer not many credentials on grass and Del Po will struggle with Murray's low slices.

Re: Wimbledon Draw
oh yeah, the early rounds (Davy aside) all look really tricky. I was just trying to find the sliver lining. here's another: I believe part of the reason Murray struggled so badly against Nadal in the semis last year (Wimbledon and US) is how little he'd been tested previously (ok at the Us he nearly lost in R2, but then it was a cruise). Maybe being tested early will switch him on, and he'll come into the semi already sharp

It was more than expected Fed would be drawn in Djoko's draw, its not a surprise to me.
Sponsors obiviously want Fed-Nadal finals and they made sure its such a way.

I'm worried I'm agreeing with you so much, given some of our friendly differences of the past You are of course correct, the conundrum (great word!!) that is Andy Murray, that if we gave him 5 unknown's to get to the Semi's and they were classed as 'easy' he'd probably drop his serve 8 times per match. Give him something to concentrate his mind and we get the player who looks like he could win still win a Slam
Well see!!

Re: Wimbledon Draw
Forgetting the more established names for a moment, I think one of the tastiest openers could be Tomic v Goffin
It was at Wimbledon 2011 where Tomic had his great run before falling to Djokovic in 4. He was ranked 158 back then, but of course is seeded now; and Goffin was very impressive at this year's RG, didn't look out of place even against Federer, having come through the qualis.

Yes yes, but the naysayers can provide theories and demand that Djoko and Fed be drawn together at least a few thousand times in a row so that they can get a large enough sample size to determine how many standard deviations are violated before determining an oddity with the numbers. Great thread you did chydremion, but unfortunately I wasn't allowed to comment on it.

Re: Wimbledon Draw
AHHHHHHHHH FEd in Djoko's half again that is now 8 of the last 9 slams drawn in the same half. Please tell us how many standard deviations and formulas we need to figure out if that is fishy or not? But I am sure it is all very above board. Novak gets the tougher semi again and Nadal doesn't, this becoming a joke it is so funny. Egg on the naysayers collective faces again.
I invite all of you to flip a coin 9 times and see if you get heads 8 times out of 9. Lets see how many of you actually manage that very easy feat.

End of the day though socal Djoko will be far happier with his draw than say.....Andy Murray. Also over the last year he has done very well no matter what the draw. I would understand your angst if you were a Murray fan who is still searching for his first slam but Djoko is the world No.1 and well positioned to win a fair few more slams in the future (regardless of draw) so is it really worth making such a major issue of draws??

I read on a stats web-site that if everyone in Britain flipped a coin 10 times, then about 60000 people would get 10 heads (and presumably 60000 would get 10 tails)
