Nadal could play big serving Raonic in 3rd but Delpo looms, Murray's 3 nearest seeds quite tough: Gasquet, Wawrinka, Cilic.

I guess you got it wroing here! Here is the draw position as per Wimbledon site:
Murray in Djokovic's half of the draw, Roger and Rafa together Andy Murray is in the bottom half of the draw so gets a potential semi-final against Novak Djokovic. Roger Federer is in the top half - the Rafa Nadal half!

Wimbledon Draw Empty Wimby Draw implications for the Top 3 rankings

Post by novak143 Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:30 am

Now that Nadal and Fed are in the same half, let us discuss the implications of this to the points tally and eventually the rankings for the Top 3.

As a Novak fan, I am curious to know if this is going to benefit him are jeopardize his chances to make it to No.1 ranking. If Novak wins Wimbledon, it is going to be pretty straight forward. He will be ahead by good number of points.

Lets discuss the other scenarios. The more-knowledgeables, come on, pitch in your 2 cents.

im confused

the BBC say that Murray will face Nadal in the semis
the official site says he will face Djokovic

this makes so much difference I just cant believe one of them (i think the BBC) is wrong

If the BBC are wrong I take back my earlier comment and reckon this is THE chance for Murray to get to a Wimbledon final!

Hi guys, has Murray drawn Nadal or Djokovic then?

Also, a bloke i work with says it is "always 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 in the semis". I know this is wrong, but he won't have it. Anyone have a link that actually states that the top 4 aren't always drawn like that?

Wimbledon Draw Empty Re: Wimbledon Draw

Post by dummy_half Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:39 am

Danny
You are correct, it is a draw. 1 and 2 are placed in the top and bottom half, then the 3 and 4 drawn to see which half they go into.

Next, numbers 5 to 8 are randomly drawn into the relevant positions in the draw so they would only meet the top 4 in the QFs.

The next complexity is that the 9-16 batch is split so that 9-12 are paired against 5-8 in the 4th round, and the 13-16 against the top 4.

Similarly, the 17-32 seeds are split so that the 17-24 are paired against the 9-16 seeds and the 25-32 against the top 8 in round 3.

Post by Guest Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:49 am

Andy Murray has been drawn in the same half of the draw as Rafael Nadal for Wimbledon.

The pair met in last year's semi-finals with Nadal winning in straight sets, a victory he repeated in the last four of the recent French Open.

The British star will play Spain's world number 56 Daniel Gimeno-Traver in the first round on Monday.

A quarter-final clash with three-time runner-up Andy Roddick is also on course for Murray following Friday morning's draw.

Defending champion Nadal, who opens against Michael Russell, could play Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals in what would be a repeat of last year's final.

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are on course to meet each other in the bottom half of the draw.

Federer opens against Mikhail Kukushkin and could play David Ferrer in the quarter-finals.

Djokovic starts against Jeremy Chardy. His scheduled last-eight foe is Robin Soderling.

This is quite confusing! Wimbledon and BBC reporting completely different things!

If it's Nadal v Murray, Federer v Djokovic, it's a bit strange... isn't that pretty much how the draw ALWAYS works out? Hasn't Djoko always met Fed in the semis? Weird !

So the Wimbledon blog has Murray against Gimeno Travers first, Kmke? - Kavcic as potential 2nd round.

Possible interesting third round matchups, with any of Cilic, Looby (good first round match there) and Stakhovsky possible there.

A few interesting first rounders: Tipsarevic v Dr Ivo, Verdasco v Stepanek, Dolgopolov v Fernando Gonzalez

confusing isn't it? Though if we can at least trust the official site for the first few rounds looks like a nice draw for Fed: Almagro and Ferrer his prospective R4 and QF opponents. Tough draw for Murray: Cilic, then Wawrinka/Gasquet, then Roddick.

MfC
Fed has to get past Nalby in R3 first, and it's quite likely to be Tsonga in the QF, so that won't be all that easy (agree though that his R4 match shouldn't be too bad).

Nadal could have a bit of a shocker - Raonic in R3, Del Potro in R4 and Berdych in the QF

Don't think Andy's draw is all that bad - OK, he's had problems in the past in slams with all of Cilic, Stan and Roddick, but his record generally against them all is good and it certainly could have been tougher.

Again, Djoko's draw doesn't look too bad - Llodra in R4 is a crafty player but I think will be hit off the court, then Soderling or Melzer in the QF is not too bad a match up on grass.

I'm amazed how there can be so much confusion and we still don't know for sure! Maybe we might need to wait a little longer before it's clarified, I don't get how people on twitter can get it wrong, presumably some of those on twitter are journalists who are sitting in and hearing the draw at the ceremony?

I think steve is right, the beeb got it wrong and the other media outlets took their cue from them, unlikely that the official site could be wrong on this you'd think. Also the beeb have removed the semis information from their article, so someone has worked it out it seems.

As a Murray fan, not too unhappy with the draw, Djokovic in semis is better than Nadal I think, but Gasquet/Wawrinka followed by Roddick is tough. Nadal has Raonic in R3 potentially, so that's hard on him. Didn't see the bit about Tsonga being in Fed's quarter dummy_half, that does indeed make it a bit harder. Don't think Nalby will be a bother though...

Nadal's draw. Raonic in R3 is horrible, probably the worst R3 opponent around I'd say, but Del Potro is still on the injury comeback trail, and has no pedigree on grass, while Berdych has played pretty poorly all year, so it's not all bad.
