Italy didn't have England for breakfast about 6 weeks ago, they needed penalties to beat England.

Yeah, Italy couldn't beat England over 120 minutes.
Argentina are completely overrated.
Holland are on the downhill and I'd fancy England to beat them now.
Even Portugal aren't that much better than England and I think it would be a very close match.

Thing is, you can't say that England are any better than any of those 15 teams.

So if anyone is revelling in being ranked third (and I don't actually think there are) they have to be on crack.

There really isn't an argument for England being any higher than 8-10 in the rankings, not getting past the last 8 for 16 years is proof of that.

You could also say some of those teams aren't better than England either.

Yes they aren't 3 best but they remain a pretty good team and theres some good young players to come.

THat's what I'm saying GSC, There are at least 8 teams who are without a doubt better than England, and at least 7 of which are no better or no worse than England.

Apart from the crackpot method by which these rankings are constructed, there isn't another measure in the world which would have England in third place, unless you are talking tossers in the team, (COle, Gerrard, Terry) in which case they might well be ranked number one.

England v Italy part 2 is next Wednesday which is funny as I though they were going to scrap August International Friendlies.

Brazil now down to 18th in the World, just one place above Algeria! Meanwhile, the footballing powerhouse that is Colombia has moved up to 5th place. England now in 6th place. Scotland are below Togo and Uzbekistan in the rankings. Laugh

The thing is a load of the African countries for example just play each other or not at all so you end up with having guys who are the equivelent of East Stirling in the top 80 of the rankings. The thing is with Brazil i know they aren't having to qualify but how often do they lose? extremely rarely yet still plummet down the rankings. Bizarre system.

Brazil are going to struggle to move up the rankings because they don't have any competitive games.

People should just realise that the rankings are based solely on results.

In fairness to Columbia, they've had a pretty good year looking at their results, and when you have Falcao up front its like having 5 start players rolled into one. Plus they have other talented players.

2014 world cup qualification results:

Beat Bolivia 2-1
Drew 1-1 with Venezuela
Lost to Argentina 2-1 (Falcao and Guarin injured)

New coach for 2012:

Beat Mexico 2-0
Beat Peru 1-0
Lost to Ecuador 1-0
Beat Uruguay 4-0 (Ending their unbeaten streak stretching back to 2010)
Beat Chile 3-1 (were a goal down)
Beat Paraguay 2-0

Beat Cameroon 3-0 (Friendly, many star players missing)
Drew 1-1 with Brazil (Friendly)

So they haven't been undeserved although I agree, I wouldn't say they're the 5th best team but they've had some excellent results.
