Hurling 07/07/12 & 08/07/12 (Bad times for the Dubs!)
I haven't seen the match highlights yet - I'm not sure if I can bring myself to watch TSG this week, but apparently the Dubs threw away their match against Clare last night - even when Clare were down to 14 men. So fairdo's to Clare on coming back from 0-11 0-07 at HT to beat the Dubs 1-16 0-16.
Also well done to Cork who sent Offaly packing. Their match finished 1-26 2-16. Sounds like that was a good game, so I'm looking forward to watching that. Kilkenny v Galway should be interesting this afternoon. Hopefully I can watch that somewhere, if not I'll listen in on the radio.

Hi Cari,
Dublin very poor last night, but in fairness, this is a very good young Clare team. One for the future.

Hi Blue,
Listening to the KK/Galway match on the radio. Sounds amazing. Can't wait to see the highlights (there'll be loads) - absolutely superb match by the sounds.
Baby Dubs won their match today and are minor hurling Leinster champs so I'm happy.

Never, never, never, have Tyrell, Walsh or the KK backline ever got such a pasting. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.
With such a one sided first half, you would think it should have been boring, but it was anything but.
Decent comeback for KK in the 2nd half but Galway had about 12 wides in total.
Munster final next week. The winners of this on course to meet KK in the semis. I wonder will Tipp throw it
Tipp Minors won Munster football beating Kerry. 2 in a row. Wouldn't back against winning the All-Ireland again. Cracking team.

All 3 Cork goals today were illegal - Nicholas Murphy being in the Square for all 3..................the boys in the Sunday Game laughed it off.....................not only was he in the square but he was practically on the goalline for all 3..........granted he scored only one but you don't have to play the ball for it to be a free out.......the Clare boys didn't even complain either.................
Murphy spent all day in the square, appearing clueless as to the rulr............luckily he met 2 umpires and a referee who were equally clueless

Have the rules on the square ball not been changed recently?

I didn't see the Cork-Clare game John so i can't comment on the goals but they did do away with the square ball rule when the ball is in open play....

Mick,
Square ball rule still there. Rule 4.9.
The only change (in open play) in the Square Ball rule was that a player can now go into the square when the ball is played in as opposed to when the ball arrives in.Not only was Murphy in the square, he was standing beside the Umpire!!

Mick,
The Rule change is significant from a 40 or 50 yard ball played in where a player can go in straight away.......................the odd thing about yesterday was that Cork seemed to think putting Murphy in the square was ok, Clare didn't complain, and the Umpires and Ref gave it the thumbs up!!

The full text of the new rule is:
Rule 4.9 Official Guide Part 2 – Rules of Foul Play – Rule 4 Technical Fouls:
“For an attacking player to enter opponents’ small rectangle:
(a) During Play (excluding Set Play), before the final play of the ball into the small rectangle
(b) In Set Play, before the ball enters the small rectangle.
Exception:
(i) If an attacking player legally enters the small rectangle, and the ball is played from that area but is returned before the attacking player has time to leave the area, provided he does not play the ball or interfere with the defence, a foul is not committed.
(ii) When a point is scored from outside the small rectangle and the ball is sufficiently high to be out of reach of all players, the score shall be allowed even though an attacking player may have been, otherwise illegally, within the small rectangle before the ball – provided that the player in question does not interfere with the defence.”

Re: Hurling 07/07/12 & 08/07/12 (Bad times for the Dubs!)
John I think the main issue was interfering with play, which Nicholas wasn't for the first 2. First one he seemed to enter the square as it was played, anyway we played shoite but won well and if those goals hadn't been allowed we still would have won so happy days.
The choice of playing the match in the Gaelic grounds was idiotic even by the GAA's standards. Galway were unreal, never seen them play with such intensity, people are often afraid to paly KK, Galway weren't they ran at their half back line and caused them problems.

Next Round
Cork -v- Wexford
Limerick -v- Clare
Venues to be decided.
Winners to play either KK and either Tipp/Waterford. Would Tipp throw the Munster final to avoid KK in the semi
The hurling championship just got really interesting.

Wexford easier than Limerick. Happy with that. Galway really threw a spanner in the works, I said a QF would be a decent season for Cork so I think we can achieve that.

Interfering with play irrelevant as per rule above unless point is scored................it's shocking that this rule is time and again ignored by officials. Cork far superior though regardless.................
Us in Limerick happy with the hurling draw as well.....................it will be very intense though. Galway showed the way though, what a performance...........

I thikn the rule should be amended in all honesty, Murphy had no effect on the first 2 goald he wans't in the keeper's way or anything.

I wont argue with that ................although if he had interfered with Keeper, i'm dubious whether goals would have been disallowed given that the Officials yesterday seem the thing the square ball rule was done away with completely, going by the 3rd goal!!
Cork should be ok with Wexford, but i think they need to up their intensity level a lot.............they are giving scores away cheaply..................

They are indeed, QF would be a decent year there is a lot to work on really and it will be two or three years before we are in serious contention. Learning how to play with an extra man would be a start but judging from the last couple weeks the majority of GAA teams don't know how to do it, it's amazing how they don't!

I've seen Gaelic Warrior posting elsewhere I'm sure of it...I was surprised he didn't pop in when Meath won a couple of weeks ago. Rebel's been in and out. Haven't seen Bluemoda lately.... Perhaps they'll all turn up during the finals....or they haven't realised it IS summer (easy mistake to make now!)

Oh, I've been watching ye from afar.
Truth be told, I got a notion into my head that I wanted a garden and I've got stuck into that. I now have a garden. Really proud of my efforts but my back is broken.
Missed the start of the Galway -v- Kk match, stuck my head in the door, saw the score and went back to the garden in disgust. Came back into the house 25 minutes late and imagine my surprise and delight when I realised I misread the score.
Hopefully KKs week will get worse as they play Laois in the Leinster U21s tonight.

Going to watch last week's TSG now to see the Glory..Glory Galwaaaaaaay! match.

Moda, do you know much about the Tip footballers? I know they won the minor last year so are promising. Two lads from that team are on trial with Cork City FC. One of them is Kennedy who scored that screamer. The other is a chap called Graham Henry. I suppose City have history here with Shane Long and everything.

Stalker!
Hiya Cari, quite a lot happening recently so haven't had much time to post or catch up with games online (this is where I miss setanta), still try and read a bit on the board when I can. On Meath I was truly stunned, I like many royals didn't expect anything this year and now we're in a provincial final. Not getting too carried away tho, still expecting to get horse-whipped but still happy to be there and get revenge on kildare.
Not seen RB for ages myself, probably had too much jelly and ice cream recently.
Hopefully I'll be able to catch the final on radio and hoping we'll see more of this on the day -

Surprised somebody actually noticed I was missing.
Will try and set up a thread for the game nearer the time, hopefully this fixture gets some regulars back on. Been a bit low key on the whole really compared to last year with low attendances from what I hear, hopefully this final can turn that around....once again its up to the Royals to put things right! Stephen Bray to save the day!
Looking forward to the new Pro12 season shortly Cari? Will be interesting to see what Townsend brings to the table and to see the warriors new gaff at Scotstoun.

Yeah they mentioned low attendances on TSG this week (just gone). Some of that was down to poor planning by the organisers though.
Yes, always love the rugby season. I do miss it. It'll be interesting to see the new players Ospreys have got coming up through the ranks this year now they've got rid of a few of the bigger names. I'm really going to miss Tommy Bowe though. Am going to catch him at some Ulster games just to keep an eye on him I think the Warriors could do the final this season. They were so close last season too.

Resident gallowglass and the only Royal in the village.
Think the low GAA attendances are also a result of the recession, seen a few complaints on other gaelic forums saying some ticket prices are ridiculous.
It'll be good when the Welsh regions get their finances and crowd numbers sorted out, the Blues moving back to arms park was the right move too. I don't know too much about getting to the final this year Cari. Under Lineen we had developed a system and had stability but the regime change could unbalance things. Hopefully we can continue the positivity though but the loss of the likes of big Richie Gray is a big blow.

On TSG they said that the ticket prices for last week's Cork/Clare football were too expensive and the match should've been at a different venue.
Ah yes, Grey going is a big loss for Scottish rugby generally I think. Hopefully last year's performance will keep the Warriors positive though. I like the Arms Park, and will be going there to see a couple of matches if I can. I went to watch Connacht and the Blues last season there and it was a good laugh. They should never have moved in the first place, but then no one can point the finger at anyone else for making mistakes like that during the financial boom. Everyone's suffering because of those sorts of mistakes.

Coleman Kennedy is still a minor and scored a goal in the Munster Final. There is about 8 from last years team on this year's team and if I could get good odds on the minor retaining the All-Ireland I'd take it. It's a cracking team. There's a good few of the minor football panel on the hurling panel as well and they are in the Munster Final againt Clare on Sunday. Last years and this years football minors and the kids coming behind them are creating a huge buzz in Tipp among the football fraternity. The underage age teams won everything in Munster last year from u12, u13 right up to minor grade.
From last years minor team Quillvan & captain McGrath made the senior team and panel respectively. Quillivan missed a penalty againt Offaly last time out though Tipp still won by 5 points. The fact the he even took the penalty against more senior players is proof that management are looking to the future.
Funnily, I have heard nothing in relation to the u21s footballers. My dad is a big follower of both codes and he is very excited about Tipp's football future. Last time we won an All-Ireland was in 1920. The ambition is to win another before then. Can't have 100 years between wins. Good ambition all the same.Quillivan and McGrath being the first "graduates" of the policy the Co Board have put in place.
It's hard to judge the senior team at the moment as they don't play as well as they are capable of. Some of their best players skiddaddle of the to US every summer and whether management put a stop to that this year, I don't know. They certainly have ability and a win against Wexford on Sat and would be a huge boost to our football generally.

That's a triple bill from Thurles:-
Tipp -v- Wexford - Football
Limerick -v- Clare - Hurling
Cork -v- Wexford - Hurling.
I'm a big fan but I don't know if I would have the stamina for three game though.
