Need info - when did the 25 yard line become the 22?
When did go go from English to French (ie. metric) in Rugby?
Someone just asked me when we went from the 25 to the 22, and I can't remember.
When did we start allowing lifting (legally)?
and, lastly,
When did the try go from 4 points to 5?
I know we have a fantastic bunch of people here with better memories than me. Can you help me out here? Need for later today............
Thanks,
Grey

5 point try was 1992 i believe . Not sure if there was an offical date for the 22/25 change probably part of the metric changeover currency etc in the UK in the mid 70's (except for road distances and -thankfully-pints of beer ).
My village pitch 22/25 line hasn't changed position for at least 40 years in any event so our groundsman still hasn't heard about the change.

Isn't it just the difference between yards and metres? Just guessing, haven't done any actual research...

I'd agree that it was a change in nomenclature more than anything else like the 120 kilo props we have nowadays rather than 19 stone or thereabouts when I was playing.

22m is 24 yards, not 25
The change was made in 1977

Lifting was legalised I think 2009 after the 2008 trials in the SH.

Lifting was earlier than that - some time in the 90s (South Africa had been lifting during their isolation years and managed to get it brought across on their return.

22.86 actually. 23 m line would be more curate than 22 but 22 sounds better?
