Saracens' new sponsor and naming rights for stadium - Allianz
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/club/9421916/Saracens-sign-8-million-sponsorship-deal-with-German-company.html
Saracens new stadium is to be renamed Allianz Park.
Allianz will become the club's main sponsor and will appear on Saracens' new shirt next season.
Allegedly £8 million over the next 6 years.

Not a bad deal that. Should help balance the books a tad as Sarries have been quite relient on their owners for the last few years. Shame they couldn't have named the stadium something more permanant but nevermind you can't turn down sponorship cash.

Allianz Park - Sarries' home ground

Nobody will believe me. But good luck to them at their new home next spring.

Sam I know what you mean in terms of the name but naming rights and sponsorship are part of sport these days.
I am glad Saracens have done this.

Another £8m that they can't spend on new players because of the salary cap.
Yeah right

£8 million for Stadium and Shirt sponsorship.
I wonder how much Ulster get from BT to change name of Ravenhill, and bank of Ireland for shirts?
Hopefully be more than the £8 million Saracens get,

Look closer to home.
1. Need to get your legendary world cup winning fly half firing on all cylinders.
2. Need to actually play your giant winger on the wing where he can actually make an impact and score tries.
3. Sign up some decent frontrow options. You can have Stevens back if you want. Mears is too small.
4. Stop signing Leicester cast offs who take your money but don't actually contribute to the Bath cause.
5. Make sure Attwood lives up to the hype.
6.Sort out your own centre conundrum.
Etc.

Re: Saracens' new sponsor and naming rights for stadium - Allianz
I think it's a good move. I suppose with no history behind the stadium it doesn't matter as much but I always find it hard to fear the away days when the stadium is just the name of a business it doesn't have the same authority.
Having said that I think Tigers would do exactly the same if they thought they could get away with it. All four stands are now corporately named with the logos of different sponsors (save the clubhouse end which is basically just scaffolding, though even that has advertising boards on it). The fans weren't massively pleased at the renaming of the Crumbie to the Holland and Barrett Crumbie but should the club try the same with Welford Rd then they'd probably have themselves a fan walkout.
It's the way of professionalism, you've got to generate the optimum amount of revenue in order to be successful.

Let's face it, there are all manner of things on which a pro-rugby team could spend money, from specialist coaching and equipment, thru additional recovery facilities, etc. - you just have to look at Team SKY to see how money can help with small margins

Yeah I of course know all that, but it's much more fun to be a cynic. On the plus side, you get free coaching and squad advice from beshocked. So, i've lucked out

Answer to no.3 :- They have just signed Welsh international Paul James, so that is one step in the right direction.

I sort of agree with Sam. In an ideal world you would sell all the rights to everything you can bar the team and stadium name. That said £8m is a nice little sum of money.

Lorddowlais I said decent frontrow options.
Just joking he's alright. Still they need a hooker to replace Mears.
I think Bath like most sides chasing the top 4 have a lot of potential in their 1st XVs. It's just about getting the key names stepping up to the plate.
Eastmond is another of those league converts I want to see showing what they can do.
If Gary Gold does answer all 6 of those points you'll be going in the right direction.
I am always happy to share my rugby wisdom.

Sam just look at the Aviva Stadium and Emirates stadium.
I think it works. Wouldn't mind getting a little more than £8m but I am just being greedy.
Thanks aslongasbut100ofus.
Isn't Martin Corry the face of Holland and Barrett?
As you say it works for Saracens because it's a new stadium. Changing an old established name like Welford Road is would be much harder for fans to swallow.

? None of the SXV teams to my knowledge have added a sponsor to their name. The NZ teams all have the same shirt sponsor anyway - Ford up until a couple of years back, more recently the Bank of NZ.
Though I have seen joking references to the "Qantas Wallabies"

The RaboDirect Rebels, Vodacom Blue Bulls etc. Or are they just what people know them as?
(As for Qantas Wallibies that was what their team was called on the official RWC game)

I don't think so, the "Vodacom Blue Bulls" are the Currie Cup team version of the "Blue Bulls" which is the SuperXV team.

Corry does advertise with Holland and Barrett Beshocked and the players have done a couple of promotional events at the Leicester store (as they have with John Lewis as well). Got to maximise the income while you can.
To be honest the Aviva stadium has no real aura to it, it's not a place that I'd consider impenetrable etc. It's a fairly small national stadium. If they'd kept Lansdowne Rd as the name then that would add the weight of history to the place. I dunno, it's probably just me.
Mickado, you are right the Vodacom Blue Bulls are the Currie Cup team, however, the Super 15 side are the Vodacom Bulls.

Still can't believe there is so much publicity around a 10k supporters stadium! Bath are trying desperately to redevelop or leave a ground that currently holds more than that. They won't be able to play knock-out European rugby there either.

There doesn't seem to be anything on here about 'Vodacom'
http://www.superxv.com/bulls/
Wouldn't this be the exact place they HAD to be called the Vodacom Bulls? No link on that wiki article regarding the sponsorship.
Bathmad, I know, a massive success for Sarries isn't it? Getting it in the media at every oppotunity. Makes good sense.

Looks like your right Hammer, damn Wiki.
Bathmad, Sarries generally move their big games around, I am a bit suprised they didn't try and get last years Clermont game moved to Wembley but hey ho. They've got a tough HEC group so I think long term sustainability will take precedent over the need to move HEC knock out games.

I saw when Rangers folded there were rules in place in Scottish football that meant the new team name could not include any Sponsorship. I'd say most football leagues have the same rule.
I hope the Pro 12 and English Prem have similar rules, but while I have think like RaboDirect Rebels, I have to admit I'm not sure where I stand on Benetton Treviso???

gowales - thanks I was sure there were some.
Kingshu - I guess it all depends on what the team is known as when you first hear of them. The same as a Man Unt shirt will always seem odd to me without Sharp sponsoring it, because that was on it when I paid attention to football.
