It's all going pear shaped. Middlesex throw it away, meanwhile Surrey doing a long lingering collapse. Ground to a halt apart from the wickets column.

I would say that River probably needs a century to have a chance of playing the next match....

One batting point achieved. 207-7.
Next target: 250 and a further point.
Pretty desperate state of affairs, mind you ....

Re: surrey vs warwickshire match thread
Meaker and Batty doing a good rearguard job here, impressive performance from Burns again by all accounts - we may well have a star on our hands. Lots of impressive reports of Rankin and Clarke's bowling coming through from Edgbaston too, there was a time I would ridicule anyone suggesting Clarke for England all-rounder status but he has come on massively in the last couple years.

Re: surrey vs warwickshire match thread
Carrot - I was just getting geared up to ask the question whether anyone had carried their bat through an innings after being dropped first ball. But then he got out. But a good innings.
Meaker has the talent to get his batting average into the 20s I would suggest. (Or at least hope)

Re: surrey vs warwickshire match thread
Hi Carrot - another useful innings from Meaker. He also got us over the line in the final over at Trent Bridge for a second batting point.
Think Clarke's international chances have been and gone but I take your point. It's his bowling which really seems to have come on. Both Churchy and the Radio Brum commentator were emphasising yesterday just how quick he now is.

Can we make them pay? Hope so. If not, JimBob might have been a bit premature with his celebrations.
PS JimBob - David Thomas obit on the main Surrey thread along with some observations from the Corporal.

Re: surrey vs warwickshire match thread
No problem, JimBob.
Getting ahead of myself and probably even jinxing a second batting point, we would do incredibly well to finish tonight having lost no more than nine wickets (first innings wickets, I mean! ) and reached 300 for three batting points.
Very ambitious, I realise. Only 272 short of the Corporal's target ....

Churchy just suggested that Meaker has the potential to bat at no 6 or even 5 for Surrey... No doubt it depends on who else is available to play for Surrey!

Meaker's certainly no mug with the bat but I think that's pushing it. I have though heard that some Warks pundits believe Woakes willl go on to be a better batsman than bowler ....

Re: surrey vs warwickshire match thread
Good effort from the openers who have a combined total of 16 first class matches to call on as experience! Have to say Ansari is managing to at least hang around for a while and take the shine off the new ball even if he's not making big scores, Burns could potentially make the spot his own but still a massive day tomorrow (again!) hoping for some rain to make it easier!

Re: surrey vs warwickshire match thread
I don't think the brief rain stoppages helped our cause today. Don't know whether it was coincidence but it seemed to encourage our middle order to go AWOL.
Good to see that the openers got a start again this evening. Warks seemed convinced that they had got Ansari out caught.

Re: surrey vs warwickshire match thread
83-1 at lunch.
The far more important things are that we have 9 wickets left and (I think) 62 overs left to survive. That's assuming we don't take the lead which at the current rate of knots looks unlikely. No criticism there. Ansari (27* off 111) and Harinath (0* off 24) are doing exactly what is now required.
Another decent performance from Burns.
Keep grinding, boys ....
