Problem is that Lineker seems a bit out of his depth covering other sports and his blokey humour just doesn't go down too well with someone who takes his sport seriously .Lineker even made a feeble joke at Germany's expense last night for having no medals this might be the accepted thing in football coverage but doesn't sit well at the Olympics. He just doesn't have the Gravitas to be the anchor man.Olympic Dave wrote:Nice to see Thorpey is in a better mood today than he is with Gary.

Gary effectivley asked him how retirement was going for him Saturday night until Thorpe snapped back that he was trying to get back to the top of the Sport..........

Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield are in the 10m synchronised diving final at 15:00, they probably won't get gold but silver or bronze isn't out of the question. And GB men's gymnasts are in the team final at 16:30.

Sadly most of the half-chances have again slipped away today - our judokas and fencers are out, and Drinkhall lost in the Table Tennis. Pressure on Daley/Waterfield and an outside chance in the Gymnastics though. Come on GB (we need a flagwaving emote )

No need to panic yet, most our medals came in rowing, cycling and sailing in beijing. Cavendish missed out, but nobody else really expected to triumph bar Adlington.

Re: Olympics Day 3
Ben Ainslie is struggling in the Finn. He finished 6th in his third race and Christensen, the Dane who beat him twice yesterday finished 2nd.
Ainslie has often been a slow starter in Olympic competition but this Dane looks seriously good.... not the sort of man to choke. Ainslie needs a win. And soon.

Yes they do. There is time still, and Ben Ainslie has been here before so no reason for him to panic. Yet. But watching the race today, The Dane had the better tactics, read the wind and the sea conditions better and the distance between 2nd and 6th positions was considerable.
Make no mistake, this could go pear shaped if Ainslie doesn't get his act together soon.

Adlington main chance is still to come with the 800m. the bronze in the 400m was really a bonus.

Didn't she do well..!! It's clear that Becky Adlington really cares about these "Home" Games. She seems to feel a responsibility to the fans to deliver. That swim, out in Lane 8 where it is so difficult to win from was really gutsy. She wanted a medal, not just for herself, but to give something to the crowd.
Her main event is the 800 metres and she will set out to make sure she has the best chance of gold in that event. It's by no means a certainty, but if there is one Briton at these Games we can rely on to "want it" more than the opposition, it's Becky Adlington.

Daley and Waterfield have blown it.
1st place at the end of round three then made a horrible hash of their fourth dive and down to 4th.... From gold to out of the medals in one cockup.

Going into the final round, they were never in realistic contention for a medal. The final American dive left Daley and Waterfield needing 100.6 to get bronze. They scored 92.
It was a very good start by the British pair and we were starting to dare to believe, but that fourth dive really was a pig's ear and they never recovered. Still a good effort to finish fourth, but no cigar.

Re: Olympics Day 3
The fourth dive indeed ruined everything. If the fourth dive had scored 86, not 71, then Daley and Waterfield would have had silver. Alas, it wasn't to be.

Apparently, the Japanese may still get a half a point which would see GB drop to Bronze...

In fairness, i can understand the Japanese. If it was GB with a chance to move up then i would support their claim.
Still excellent to get a Bronze, totally unexpected.
