Olympics Day 5
Day 5 is just about to kick off with Spain and Australia in the men's hockey - the Aussies are called the Kookaburras.
I think today is the start of the gold rush, chances in rowing and most importantly.......
ALLEZ WIGGO! You're indestructible!

A nice touch by the BBC is that their closing montage @ 10pm on BBC One is then shown as the opening montage of the 9am show the next day.

Time trials much less so. I think Wiggins will win it, there are only two people who can possibly beat him and they're both unfit/off form. Not saying they won't, but he's a pretty warm favourite.

He's undefeated in Time Trials in 2012.

Half 12 I think is Bradley Wiggins.
I'm not sure on which channel though.
BBC 1 is rowing, and BBC 3 archery at the moment...

The Time Trial is nicknamed the Race of Truth. No tactics here, just the clock. I assume Brad will go last, or does that go to Tony Martin as World Champ?

Re: Olympics Day 5
I think half 12 is wrong actually, although that's what a presenter said earlier.
Probably closer to half 2.
BBC website says: quarter past 2 to five past 4.

Re: Olympics Day 5
yeh, just checked, wiggo is the penultimate rider so only has Cancellara to worry about once he's set his time (providing his top at that point). Big pressure, and he must be exhuasted from the Tour and the gruelling failure in the road race.

Can I just say the BBC rowing commentator has always been fantastic. He WILL lose it in the closing stages of a race without fail.

The commentator losing his voice at the end has been my favourite moment of the Olympics so far.

RTE have a great basketball commetator too, for those who can pick it up, he is worth a listen when there's a game on.
Annalise is 2nd in the Laser class (according to her bro on twitter), and looking quick not all about Team GB like They will pick up a fair few today though, enjoy it lads and lassies.

Re: Olympics Day 5
Timmy McCarthy I think is his name, you can probably pick that up though? With the whole Saorview boxes from October you should be able to dit anyway. I think those in NI will have full access to Irish Free to Air with one of them, think there was some agreement a while back.

Re: Olympics Day 5
Ahh yes - I remember my dad mentioning him. I can't pick it up in Belfast and back home my RTE is awful (strange that, used ot be very good). I don't think our TV could pick up Saorview (is that what the box is for?) - different standard. But RTE One, Two and TG4 will come to Freeview before the year is out!

Re: Olympics Day 5
Saorview is the Irish version of freeview and NI people are getting access to it I think. Be prepared for an overload of rugby from TG4 and RTE.
On 29 May 2012 the UK Government confirmed TV viewers in Northern Ireland will be able to watch TG4 and RTÉ One and Two on Freeview from Northern Ireland-based transmitters following digital TV switchover, through a special agreement in which RTÉ and TG4 arranged a not-for-profit venture which will be responsible for the installation of the new infrastructure. Freeview delivery of these channels will be supplemented by overspill coverage from Saorview transmitters in the Republic of Ireland.

Re: Olympics Day 5
Yeah - I've heard that. But, I think some of the TV's bought here, digitial TVs that is, can't pick up the picture for Irish channels. We get the frequency but no picture, think its because Irish digital is on a different MPEG standard. That should sort it though!

Re: Olympics Day 5
Just wanna say, fantastic rowing again by the women's pair to get GB our first Gold of the games. And a fantastic effort by the men's eight who only just ran out of steam, bronze was a decent reward for their efforts. Now come on Bradley Wiggins who starts at 15:07.

Re: Olympics Day 5
Judging from recent performances by Wiggins in the TT this year and throughout the TDF this gold should be in the bag. Due to the fact T. Martin has been injured and that Cancellera is nursing an injured arm/shoulder, this really should be Gold. This is not a possibility, this is a definite and more than realistic gold opportunity in my opinion.

And there's a more than decent chance for Froome to do well. British 1-2? I can dream!
