Never actually used an electric blanket. My Nan had one though
The winter quilt does the trick, it's a proper thick feather and down one. Lovely and warm even when it got to -17 a couple of winters ago!

That is cold.
Unlike here today. Quite a warm one with 31-32 degrees C expected with thunderstorms this arvo.

Oh LB that demonstrates the difference in our climates in one sentence! "Quite a warm one" at 31-32 C!! That's a proper heatwave here, it would be newsworthy!

32 C is the limit of my comfort zone Swanny. It will be 'hot'.
Depends on humidity of course. It can be 32 C with 90% humidity... which feels less comfortable (to me at least) than 36C with 15% humidity.

Very true, on the very rare occasion it gets that warm here we tend to get high humidity too. Does me in, I really struggle with it, makes me lethargic and sleepy. And the dehydration wrecks my blood pressure. We complain lots about our weather but I couldn't cope with frequent high humidity. Cold, crisp and sunny days are actually beautiful

Re: The Last Poster is the Loser
We had this awful period of about 10 days earlier this year when it was hot & humid.
Impossible to sleep but as you say... I felt very tired all the time.
I kept going for swims, taking cold showers but within 3-5 mins I felt very uncomfortable again.
That's a bit unusual for here because we normally get the edge taken off by the sea breeze but on this occasion there was nothing for over a week.

Do you wait until it gets down to 5 degrees Swanny? I'd have mine out at around 13 degs.

Winter jackets have already appeared LB but I can't bring myself to wear a full length winter coat in September. That's just wrong

Re: The Last Poster is the Loser
I realised I haven't worn a jumper for about 8 years I think... I just add layers but it never ever gets really cold enough here for a winter coat. I washed all the jumpers and put them away at top of the wardrobe so I hopefully won't be needing them in the next 6 months.

I can't imagine not needing a jumper for 6 days never mind 6 months!! I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to the cold though.

The turf transplants are going well Swanny. I was worried a couple of weeks ago (it's been so dry here) but I saw them yesterday and it seems they will flourish now.

Re: The Last Poster is the Loser
Need to be careful. A Chinese girl once told me never to read a book on the loo or stay too long. It's bad for your insides. It's something to do with blood pressure and natural body function? She also told me to put teeth together and relax. Makes sense. I know that feeling when you are in pain and it's an effort just to sit down or get up without wailing out in pain or feeling that you're made of concrete.

You should see your doc Kenny. Sounds like sciatica. If it is then you need to find out what's causing it.

Re: The Last Poster is the Loser
Actually, just realised I had that same feeling of pain in the lower back... sometimes a dull throbbing pain in my lower spine and parts of both legs after my broken left leg - for a year or two afterwards.
It's a huge shock to the body (any operation is involving bones, etc) and the pain killers also obviously affect your chemistry in a big way. Healing is a long process but you go through phases of recovery - each one hopefully a bit better than the last.
Even now the leg feels bruised and occasionally sore (4 or 5/10) but I'll block it out of my mind and do some stretching or if I'm out and about I'll power up a set of stairs or steep hill just to let the body know who's boss and feel good about pushing the pain threshold.
