The IBF are allowing Peterson to retain his world title and have installed Judah as his mandatory. Looks like cheats do win in boxing.

A microcosm of everything that is wrong with boxing, this is motivated solely by Khan saying he would not fight for the IBF title ever again, they have decided they would rather see their title held by a cheat than a loudmouth. How on earth anyone can consider allowing Petersen to retain the title is beyond me, allowing him to keep the title is validating his actions in the Khan fight and thus far, as those actions involve cheating it sends absolutely the wrong message to other fighters and the sport in general.

Does anything in boxing surprise us anymore.

The boxing councils make up the rules as they go along, their indiscretionsthey get more blatant every year.

Ah well. Looks like you don't need a valid defense when caught using synthetic testosterone. They'll just let you off.

Boxing should stay amateur. Just take the helmets off. Once it becomes professional it loses its integrity quicker than a hooker in front of a twenty pound note

You think amateur boxing is any better??? Look at the amount of corruption in it. If anything its worse.

The tournament idea is a great idea in theory, the best will fight the best HOWEVER this isn't tennis, you aren't putting your body on the line in the same way, you can't compete in fight after after over a short distance boxers need to rest their bodies especially after wars, this isn't the amateurs, pro gloves can really damage fighters.

If they can space it out over a longer time period than it would be good but it won't ever happen but it might be what the sport needs

All boxers need to be tested all year round, blood and urine, that's the only way forward for the sport now. People need to follow Donaire's lead.

Still wont work. The chemists are ahead of the testers. Masking agents can work wonders.

I REALLY hope that Judah either turns down the fight because he "won't fight a cheat" (this won't happen!) or he knocks him into next week.

That's even less likely.

I was thinking that the IBF were the best of the Alphabet boys at the moment but this is a real shocker from them.

I would of been in complete agreement. No silly interim, super or diamond champions, reasonable decent holders at every weight. And didnt seem to be in anyones pocket. But this is an absolute shocker. Not even like he might of been caught or only caught after the fight he was caught before and is absolute nailed on to have cheated in the Khan fight.

Pretty certain that if Khan had of kept his mouth shut and/or beat Garcia they would of stripped Peterson no problem. Just being petty.

Brilliant phrase I just heard about this...

"You can't clean up boxing, because money cannot be cleaned".

Pretty much sums up this situation.

The IBF have essentially said, oh you can cheat as long as you claim a deficiency and keep within a certain level.

Someone has to do something about this.

Oh dear. Empty IBF Keep Peterson

Post by Wpwp86 Sun 12 Aug 2012, 10:18 am

The American won the IBF and WBA belts from Amir Khan in his home town of Washington in a controversial split decision in December.

The WBA stripped Peterson of the title after he tested positive for synthetic testosterone and reinstated Khan, forcing the cancellation of a rematch with the Briton scheduled for May.

Peterson, 28, maintained he was given treatment due to abnormally low testosterone levels and was unaware that what he was doing was contrary to anti-doping rules.

Peterson had testosterone pellets inserted into his hip before he beat Khan - but is adamant they did not affect his performance.

That argument was backed by the International Boxing Federation, who sought the views of an independent physician.

Therapeutic use

A statement read: "The physician was asked by the IBF to provide an opinion as to whether the levels of testosterone noted in the VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) report appeared to be consistent with the therapeutic use of the hormone, or for performance enhancing purposes.

"Additionally, the physician was asked to confer on whether these levels of testosterone would have enhanced Lamont Peterson's training for and performance during the bout, and for his training for the bout scheduled for May 19 (against Khan).

"After concluding the review of all the documentation provided by Peterson's camp and the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the physician determined that the testosterone levels noted in the VADA report are consistent with the therapeutic use of the hormone and not for the purpose of performance enhancement.

"Therefore, these levels would not have enhanced Lamont Peterson's training for or performance during the bout on December 10."

The IBF now expect Peterson to make a mandatory defence of his title against fellow American Zab Judah "as soon as possible on a date that all parties involved agree upon".

Hi guys this is my first post. Just wanted to gauge people's opinion to this news.

Many thanks.
