A Touch of Cloth
Anyone seen the trailers for Sky 1's "A Touch of Cloth"
It looks superb. Just the trailer has me laughing hysterically, and penned by Charlie Brooker, its probably going to be massively entertaining.
Not sure if it's a series or a one-off spoof - it looks like the sort of idea that might not work as a whole series.
Can't wait for this.

Re: A Touch of Cloth
I've seen the trailers and I'll definitely be watching. I'm a big fan of stuff like The Naked Gun and Airplane so it looks like this will be right up my street.
I didn't know it was a Charlie Brooker project until a couple of days ago, but it made me even more certain I'd be watching it.

Re: A Touch of Cloth
I saw the advert for the first time yesterday, the tv was on in the other room and I thought it was serious. I heard the name was Touch of Cloth and wondered if Sky had gone mad. Caught the advert again and it looks brilliant, will definitely be watching. I didn't even realise it was Charlie Brooker until reading this thread!

Re: A Touch of Cloth
I think the first trailer was mocked to look like a serious show - because the first time I saw it a few weeks back, it had none of the really funny bits in it. Just a few of the subtle ones. Because I remember thinking, like you, that it was a terrible name for a TV show and looked ridiculous I now see that was the intention, which is brilliant in itself.

Just watched "The Making Of" special on Sky Anytime, and you get to see some scenes that aren't on the trailer and it just got even more brilliant.

Echo what everyone has said so far, absolutely fantastic. There were so many funny moments, even the little things like when DC oldman randomly jumps over the bonnet of the police car outside the police car. And Cloth getting sayings mixed up like 'Lets light some shed on this'
Very clever so far and can't wait to watch the second part.

I liked the guy who played Kurt in Teachers doing his policeman on the scene speeches.

Yeah, that was probably the best part I thought.

'public appeal?'
'Not for me'

'I haven't laughed since the night my wife died'
'Why did you laugh when your wife died?'
Just some of the lines so far

Re: A Touch of Cloth
I love how every time his name is said, it's always a pun related to 'Cloth' as well. I wonder how long the writers can keep that up.
For any fans of Charlie Brooker, I just found out Black Mirror has had a second season confirmed which is great.

Didn't like it. Thought the humour was obvious and way too contrived.

Re: A Touch of Cloth
This had me rolling on the floor laughing. John Hannah was fantastic, the part where he was watching Oldman interigate the suspect and walked in to the room with an erection was priceless. Must have been so hard to keep a straight face.

It had me howling. Especially when Boss was reading his evidence report in the court.

Re: A Touch of Cloth
Apparently there will be two more Touch of Cloth stories, forming a trilogy. I imagine that means there will be four more episodes.
I spent the entire first episode trying to work out what it reminded me of, and then it finally hit me at the start of the second one...Airplane!

I've only seen the first of the two - but there was a very deliberate nod to Airplane with the coffee comment. I think it was something like:
"I take my men like I take my coffee; bitter."

Yeah, I noticed that. Weirdly still took me a bit to make the connection that it was a very similar style to Airplane with gag after gag. The strength in that type of comedy is that if a joke is poor it moves on quickly enough for it not to matter.

Great, I was worried that it'd just get stuck in development hell.
Gives us time to re-watch the first series though Kenny.

I saw almost all of it, until that meal scene. I was watching it with my parents and it just got all too uncomfortable. I think I'll watch alone...
