Sad news from Friday nights game with Munster where it appears that Joe has suffered a broken neck. real shame for the lad as he was looking good pre season and seemed set for an extended run in the side. Wishing him a speedy recovery

Jesus thats bad. I heard the game had to be stopped for 10 minutes to remove him from the pitch.
Wishing him all the best.

B*gger, he's had absolutely no luck with injury - he's been v good for Scotland when available, one of few backs capable of breaking the gain line

Terrible news, the lads got some talent. Hope he fully recovers and gets back playing again soon, further confirmation for me that they earn every penny and more.
Good luck Joe.

Apparently no nerve damage. Not sure whether that means he'll ever play again but certainly positive from the point of view if leading a normal life if not.

Re: Scotland centre Joe Ansbro suffers broken neck
Thankfully it was a fracture of the vertebra and not a dislocation - which could have caused nerve damage. With a triple fracture of a single vertebra he will have been thankfull that the match was played at a ground with proper medical facilities - so they could stabilise him and protect the nerves.
At 17 I fractured C3, 4 & 5 - I hope he recovers as well as I did.
good luck to the lad.

Re: Scotland centre Joe Ansbro suffers broken neck
That is absolutely appalling news - shades of Thom Evans all over again.
If he needs to wear a halo for 3 months, then that means it's not great but he should play again if he's careful. You have to worry about the psychological damage too, however.
Was very interesting reading about Drew Mitchell's terrible knee injury and how a sports psychologist worked out that he would never get back to full, fearless training unless he was able to watch a video of the injury without re-living it.
He's a very nice guy indeed, as well as being quite an important part of Scotland's midfield arsenal, so here's hoping that the recovery is swift.

I feel very sorry for him. He is a really talented player, but more than that just a top bloke. I hope he makes a full recovery and with or without Rugby, can lead the full and happy life that he deserves. Best of luck Joe.

Hopefully this is one of those all too frequent scenarios in rugby where things sound much worse than they are. Thom Evans and Dan Lydiate have both fully recovered from serious neck injuries, so hopefully Joe will do the same. Very best wishes to him.

Re: Scotland centre Joe Ansbro suffers broken neck
This is terrible, was really thinking bad thoughts when I saw the headline. Lucky there's no nerve damage, but having to wear a 'halo' thing 24/7 for 3 months is still really bad and going to affect him hugely.
All the best, and a real shame as he was finally showing up well for Scotland

Wish him all the very best with his recovery.
A very talented individual (has a science degree from Cambridge) and a good international centre. I hope to see him playing again, probably the most impressive athlete in the Scotland set-up over the last few years.

Re: Scotland centre Joe Ansbro suffers broken neck
Very saddened to hear this. I hope that he makes a full recovery first-and-foremost and also that he'll recover to the point where he can actually play again.
I'd like to give a special mention to the medical staff who were there with him on the night. As soon as the incident happened they were over to him like a shot. Play was stopped for around 15 minutes while they were treating him.
After about 5 minutes or so of him being on the ground I saw him moving his hands and feet by instruction of the medical staff and he did that without any problem.
He's so so lucky that he didn't suffer nerve damage. I wish him and his family all the best in what has to be a very difficult time for all involved.

Re: Scotland centre Joe Ansbro suffers broken neck
Terrible injury.
Ansbro is actually very fortunate (at least given the accident). With no spinal cord impingement he really does have a chance at full recovery. Hopefully after the Halo comes off he will not require surgery, which is fairly common is these types of cases. I read that one of the docs actually believes he might resume playing in three months. Without seeing the file, it is hard to tell, but that seems extraordinarily quick.

Losi went to inside centre when Joe went off on Friday night, but it's unlikely he would start a game there.
I suspect that until Sa arrives from Catalan Dragons and/or iHumph is over his injury that has kept him out of the pre season games, we will have a 10/12 axis of McShingles and Geraghty, but which way round they play is anyones guess.

Very sad news, let's hope he makes a swift recovery. I'm sure Dan Lydiate will have some wise words of advice.

Fantastic news that Joe's ok. What a horrible, horrible injury. Wish him all the best. A super player and apparently one of the gents of the game.

All the best to him for a speedy recovery, Cracking player, and seems like a top bloke. Scotland have had some terrible luck with their backs in recent years getting injured, but I hope his is a success story.
