Of course Patel predictably bowls a good over, just 6 off it.
Dernbach to finish - heart in mouth time.

I'd bowl both Swann and Patel out and leave Dernbach one short...

A fine last over from Samit Patel, in fact he came back well from that Gayling, just 6 runs in the 17th over.

To be fair this has been a good over so far from Dernbach, unlucky with the first ball (which flumoxed Charles but went for 4 to fine leg).
gets Charles at last.
gets Charles at last.

Garbage isn't it, Mike. Swann would be better had he got two fingers.
Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
Charles gone for 84, another good over from England, just 8 coming of it, WI 154-4 in the 18th over.
They have really messed up things.

Now England would be disappointed if the WI score more than 170.

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
England reining this in superbly now. Need a tight last two overs and we have a tiny sniff. Not much more than that, though, if they were to end on 154 they'd still be favourites.
Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
If England can keep this under 170 then it will be a great effort from where they were. But once again, how England play the spin is going to be the decider you would think.

Sammy... Maybe Russell would have been better?
9 balls left, West Indies need to do some damage if they don't want to waste their good start.

Good come-back from England. 95-0 at halfway, and 154-4 after 18 (158-5 after 18.3).
Shows the value of wickets, especially when one of them is Gayle.

So unlucky Broad. Completely flummoxed Russell and it goes for four. Still a very good spell.

England should be able to chase 175, this pitch doesn't have have much for the spinners, a few are gripping, but not more than that. Sammy gone now. 170 is now looking dificult!. Poor old Chris Gayle, how many times has seen it all? Time and time again.

West Indies have got away with a ridiculous number of mishits...
Great spell from Broad, even 10 at this stage is a good effort, and 6 of those were just bad luck.

Oh that's awful from Dernbach. Length, gets punished.
West Indies doing the damage in the last few deliveries here.
180 to win. It's a big score, on a good pitch offering a bit to the spinners. How much have England learned from the last match?

Every time the useless dernbache is picked to bowl the last over and every time he gives the other side a massive last over and the confidence to win.
What is he doing in the side? Why do they coaches stick with this?

As usual, I'll eat my hat if we chase this down successfully.

From the last match? Or from the past 20 years?

Agreed. More often than not he is far too expensive. Looks good when he comes off, but it is about as often as Halley's Comet.
Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
I'll be glad to see England out and taking some time to rebuild. Sort it out England even if you have to change coaches and the team significantly.

Another poor last over from Dernbach, and WI end up with 179. Better from England's point of view in a way as they looked like getting a few more at the half way stage of their innings. Still going to be a tough ask for England, but I would say 40-60 in WI's favor, as the WI do not have a great bowling lineup.

Charles probably the best crap innings ever. So many mishits flying to the boundary

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
Much improved from England in the field and with the ball. Dernbach's final over was a poor one though, again. Would Broad be a better option bowling 2 and Dernbach just 1 in the last 3?
Finn bowled well up front. Broad was excellent. Swann and Patel got a bit of tap, Swann bowled a bit quickly.
The fielding was very good, one drop notwithstanding.
For West Indies, Chris Gayle came good. Charles slogged a few, showed some nice shots towards the end, but I think teams will fancy getting him out early more often than not. The rest was mediocre, and only a few lucky swings from Russel got them up to 179.

Agree on all the Dernbach comments (unless I've missed someone raving about him). We are clearly looking for a death bowler but he is not the answer, you can almost guarantee 3 boundaries per over when he comes on near the end of a T20.

More than negated by England's comedy batting I suspect.

Re: T20 World Cup: Live Matches Discussion
From 95/0 after 10 West Indies should have gotten 190+.
It was a good effort by England but that last over did take the gloss off things (to be fair though there were a couple of massive mishits which on another day could have made things very different).

Too many dot balls from the West Indies I would guess, but that's their style. That's why they're such a dangerous side in this tournament and many think they could go all the way. you can bowl 3 dot balls and the over still go for 18.

Finn - 4 overs for 26
Broad - 4 overs for 26
Dernbach - 4 overs for 38. 3 runs an over worse than the other seamers. Yet he's the one bowling the final over...

Mike
Don't think the Windies worry too much about dot balls, particularly with Gayle in. An over of dot-dot-6-4-dot-4 is more their style than 1-2-1-4-2-4.

Nice ball from Rampaul, just back of a length and hurried on to Kieswetter. Not a great shot though.
It's hard to see where 150 is going to come from to be honest, let alone 180.
