Re: Road to Ward/Dawson
This is one of those odd fights which I am looking forward to and do genuinely think is a quality match up but kind of expect to be a bit of a stinker, really rate Ward but would struggle to name too many of his fights I would care to revisit, still will be watching Sunday morning, as a proper match up between two guys at the upper echelons of their divisions and the game. Fair play to the both of them for taking the fight.

Re: Road to Ward/Dawson
Aye Rowley, Ward in particular has that same air that Whitaker, Mayweather Jr, Calderon, Hopkins etc had / have. Superb operator, but not always easy on the eye and very rarely do their styles make for thrill-a-minute fights.
Nice tool to have if you want a long career, mind you.
Am out for a booze up tomorrow night, so need to decide if I'm just going to allow myself to get semi-impaired and stay up to watch, or if I should stick it on the back-burner until Sunday afternoon.

I thought that real Yorkshiremen didn't get hangovers, Jeff - didn't believe in them?

Great match up although disappointed that Dawson has to come down in weight but if he he were to lose it gives an instant excuse and reason for a rematch. Got a feeling this might be more exciting than we all expect. Dawson at times has appeared easy to hit (Adamek, Johnson I come to mind) but I think he has the skills to make Ward pay when he tries to get on the inside. Dawson on a SD for me

Hearing Dawson got sparked by Miranda in training. And I mean cold. If that is true there is trouble ahead for Chad

Never get too excited about rumours that come out of training camps as it is a completely different environment.

ko'd by a blown up Middle and I hear it is credible. That is news. That says Dawson might have drained himself to me, if true

Where did you hear the rumour? I heard it mentioned on here a few days back, but nothing else from any other boxing sites. Sounds like a pretty weak piece of gossip so far. But, as you say, if it is true then Chad is in trouble. I hope the weight drain doesn't take a lot of the competitiveness out of the fight.

I think they weight will have a big impact on Dawson. Ideally this fight should take place at 175.

Money probably. Ward seems to have a canny ability for getting fighters to agree to his terms. Maybe he is the son of god.

Now if he loses, he's still top man at 175. Shrewd move by Chad.

Who cares about motives man. Why in the 21st century are we so stunned a good fighter is willing to move down 7 pounds to make a great fight. Sad isn't it. Think of the fab four. How many of those grea fights would have happened if people didn't compromise weight. Annoys me 'how far we done fell' (The Wire)

Rumours mean nothing, could be mind games to make team ward think he is weight drained.. With big fights such sessions are behind closed doors.. Still zee Ward taking a UD with not too many problems..

Re: Road to Ward/Dawson
Rumours can sometimes mean something, and if Edison KO'd Dawson then Ward sure as hell will. Miranda can bang, but he comes at you with notice, Ward doesn't.
I hope it's a close, active fight.

Lol, can't go against Ward, especially if Dawson got KO'd in training.

Re: Road to Ward/Dawson
Miranda had power but is past his best and is meant to have suddenly knocked out a guy cold with head guards and bigger gloves, who has never been knocked out before?..
Rumors can also be full of brown sauce.
Also if someone is knocked out cold, you are meant to not box for 6 months, so they would be putting him in danger and going against Doctors advice.

Exactly, I think Dawson bragged a bit too much how he could make 168 easily. A catchweight of 170ish would have seemed a fairer deal considering both are bringing a considerable amount to the table reputation-wise, although I knwo it's Ward's belts that are at stake.
I really rate Ward. i think he's a classy operator who's impossible to hit and seems to be very much in the Mayweather mould. I think he'll win. Would love to see him give Sergio Martinez nightmares or dish out a beat down to Chavez jr.

Re: Road to Ward/Dawson
Agolfingguy, he did get put on his ass coming up, so he is someone who can be hit. I agree though, Ward is classy. I don't want to hear about a rematch until this fight is done. If one of them spanks the other then there's no need for a rematch, period. If it is close or controversial then yeah, move Ward up to 175 and have him go after Chad's belt. But let's hope this is an epic chess match, with the real Dawson finally turning up for a full 12 rounds. I know Ward is going to be there.
