Hernandez banana kick v NZ - did he mean it Empty Hernandez banana kick v NZ - did he mean it

Some talk about Juan Martin Hernandez's banana kick touchfinder v NZ at the weekend. Did he mean it - if he did then he's rugby's version of Messi - or did he slice it off the side of his boot and got lucky. What you think, I think it was a piece of absolute genius.

It's the first clip on rugbydump.com - http://www.rugbydump.com/

Kind of both really. He meant to bend it off the outside of his foot, but not quite how it worked out.

I'd say yeah he meant it. I think he was aiming to get it in the tramlines-sure it did look a little too close for comfort but the way it swerved and the conditions he had to contend with make it a hell of a nudge.

Carlos Spencer was doing that circa 2002-3,rememeber Stuart Barnes going on about it.He was "King Carlos " then, not "Carlos the Clown" as he was dubbed in RWC semi exit 2003.

I think Hernandez must have played a lot FIFA when he was young with banana kicks like that! Wink

For what its worth, I'd think he meant that, but probably not to bounce so close to the line.

I don't understand the question. When ever I do anything half decent, let alone brilliant, I ALWAYS meant it.

100% sure he meant it.
Just look at the positioning of his feet.
If he was making an orthodox clearing punt it would have ended up
in the midfield about 30-40 mtrs from the Arg goal-line.
Hernandez is much too good a player for that.

Yes, its an over learnt skill, Andrew Johns could do it several times in a game. But in terms of valuable skills we saw last weekend it wasnt as good as Adam Ashley Cooper's double tackle.

Either way it was pretty slick, whether he meant to or not.

Hernandez one of the best strikers of ball, I know it five years ago, but watch him in the RWC in 2007, that was pretty much the last time he was in this current form.
