Edinburgh V Trevisio
After last weeks disappointing humping by the Dragons it's back to Murrayfield to play Trevisio. We say this every week but a win is a must to get our Rabbo campaign back on track and give the squad confidence for the daunting game against Saracens the following week. Trevisio will be a real tough team to play though having got better in the Rabbo every year. They've had some decent wins at home but still struggle on the road. No real injury concerns but the squad rotation will probably take it's toll, with Cross, Cox, McInally, De luca and Tonks all probably due a break.
Teams
Edinburgh Rugby: TBA
Trevisio: TBA
Massively hopeful that Denton will be fit as he hasn't played in weeks and need him to get a game under his belt before the titanic clash wish Kelly Brown the following week.
This is what I reckon the team will be, bearing in mind the rotations (let's see on Thursday if I'm close!)
1 Chunk
2 Ford
3 Nel
4 Gilchrist
5 McAlpine
6 Denton (hopefully!!!!!)
7 Rennie (assuming Bradley is not going to keep the one week on one week off policy for Rennie)
8 Talei
9 Rees
10 Laidlaw
11 Visser
12 Atiga
13 Scott
14 Jones
15 Brown
Subs Hislop, Titterel, Niven, Basilai, Grant, Leck, Leonard, Fife

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
I wonder when the time will be that Bradley just picks his best XV and lets them get on with it!!
It goes without saying that I'd pick Fife over Jones at the moment, and the less we see of Hislop and Niven this season the better.
We do need Denton back for the HC.

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
You'd like to think he'd play the strongest team against Sarries then Munster!
I agree on Niven but was impressed with Hislop against Leinster - he held his own well with 2 forwards in the bin. He looks stronger and fitter too than he has been. He even said himself in an interview that he's a lot more confident and doesn't get really nervous before games like he did last year.

If Lee Jones is on the team sheet, then I will come and find Bradley with a piece of lead piping.
A more substantial clot of arse I have not seen on a rugby pitch this season.
We need to see what Fife can do. Given Farndale's leg break, we need to start testing our younger recruits.

See that Jones is on the cover of Rugby World mag? Guessing he's one of their "ones to watch in the HK" people.

When I saw Jones on the cover, I assumed it was for a heart-to-heart, 'the trouble with the second season' human interest piece - he hasn't played well this season, and it's not like he has a notable milestone coming up, like a 6N or HC debut.
Honestly, why not Brown, Tonks, Dunbar, etc?

He's suffering the worst bout of second season syndrome I can remember.
That said, at least he had a first season! We've had plenty international players who never even had one of those!

Do you not mean one line? 'my try against Italy a few years ago'
Hootsman is saying Denton will be back tomorrow - thank god for that. Or maybe it's Richie Gray - they seem to get confused with that one...

Edinburgh Rugby team to play Treviso at Murrayfield Stadium tomorrow night (Friday 5 October, kick-off 7.30pm)
15 Greig Tonks
14 Lee Jones
13 Matt Scott
12 Ben Atiga
11 Tim Visser
10 Greig Laidlaw CAPTAIN
9 Chris Leck
1 Allan Jacobsen
2 Ross Ford
3 Willem Nel
4 Grant Gilchrist
5 Sean Cox
6 David Denton
7 Roddy Grant
8 Dimitri Basilaia
Substitutes
16 Andy Titterrell
17 John Yapp
18 Lewis Niven
19 Netani Talei
20 Ross Rennie
21 Richie Rees
22 John Houston
23 Dougie Fife
Unavailable though injury: Ben Cairns (knee), Jamie Farndale (shin), Gregor Hunter (pec strain), Steven Lawrie (knee), Robert McAlpine (ankle), Perry Parker (ankle), Steven Turnbull (knee)
Three second rows in the injury list means two back rows on the bench and presumably Denton covering lock. De Luca and Cross have been rested for this one, but should still be good enough to beat Treviso at home

Strong team - great to see Denton back! Surprised tonks and Cox haven't been given a rest.
It's time for Atiga to start delivering - he should have no excuses for lack of fitness having now been here for a good few months and got a number of games under his belt

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
Jones is a very, very, very lucky boy.
If he does not get his finger out soon he'll see future Scotland Caps being given to someone else!
Even with Robinson's strange selection policy, Jones has been so woeful for Scotland and now he cannot rely on club form, his place is surely going to be given to someone more deserving!
Other than that, it's a surprisingly strong team. I'd have though Bradley would have rested a couple of other players for this one. Suppose it's testiment to Trevisio that Edinburgh ae not taking them lightly?

What are peoples opinions on Burton and Botes, outhalf and scrum half are the problem areas for Italy, and wondering how much they have improved this area.
How would they rate to the other flyhaves and srumhalves we are more used to, ie are they about Weirs level or who?

Doesn't arrive until the Currie cup is finished - start of November.
Mean's we're a bit short of 2nd rows with 2 out injured!

Kingshu think they are like most fly halves at this level. If they were a bit more relaxed they'd be fine. The problem is they do a phase or two and then boot it away.

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
I rate Botes but burton is what can only be descriped and an antipodean reject.
If something is not working, rather than giving it time he jsut boots the ball away. Italy need to concentrate on bringing on thier own talent rather than picking the duds from overseas!
same for any team in my opinion!

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
thanks tigertattie.
I rarly get to see the Italian teams play, think its the same for most people, so am not a familar with thier players as other teams in the league.
Always been a fan of Luke McLean though, but that stems from watching italy rather than Terviso

Ill be watching this game carefully. I want to see how good Treviso look away from home. We all know what they can do in Italy but this will be tough for them.

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
I remember reading and the manager was saying last year their way form was good, but home form wasn't, the year before thier home form was great away form bad, so this year they are looking to put the two together.
I thik if youve good away form it's easier to build home form, rather than the other way round.

Listening to it on the radio, and things sound pretty grim, Treviso 27-15 up with under 10 minutes left
Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
Edinburgh's set piece has sounded pretty rickety tonight and with Saracnes coming next weekend that's rather concerning
Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
Full time Edinburgh 22-27
Visser went for the chip kick and it didn't quite work.
Terrible build up for Saracens

Brilliant away victory for Treviso - well deserved. Barbieri took both his tries with aplomb.
Despite going a man down with 20 minutes Treviso played smartly and now have a 50% return on matches played so far.
That's another scalp in the Italians' belt.
