Edinburgh V Trevisio
First topic message reminder :
After last weeks disappointing humping by the Dragons it's back to Murrayfield to play Trevisio. We say this every week but a win is a must to get our Rabbo campaign back on track and give the squad confidence for the daunting game against Saracens the following week. Trevisio will be a real tough team to play though having got better in the Rabbo every year. They've had some decent wins at home but still struggle on the road. No real injury concerns but the squad rotation will probably take it's toll, with Cross, Cox, McInally, De luca and Tonks all probably due a break.
Teams
Edinburgh Rugby: TBA
Trevisio: TBA
Massively hopeful that Denton will be fit as he hasn't played in weeks and need him to get a game under his belt before the titanic clash wish Kelly Brown the following week.
This is what I reckon the team will be, bearing in mind the rotations (let's see on Thursday if I'm close!)
1 Chunk
2 Ford
3 Nel
4 Gilchrist
5 McAlpine
6 Denton (hopefully!!!!!)
7 Rennie (assuming Bradley is not going to keep the one week on one week off policy for Rennie)
8 Talei
9 Rees
10 Laidlaw
11 Visser
12 Atiga
13 Scott
14 Jones
15 Brown
Subs Hislop, Titterel, Niven, Basilai, Grant, Leck, Leonard, Fife

I'll just give you one incident. Greeg takes a quick tap, man who should be 10 tugs him he passes, an offside Treviso player knocks down. Result? Scrum Treviso for an Edinburgh knock on.

Well then did the TJs get involved ? - I have yet to see a TJ get involved in any decision- this is maybe something that needs looked at by the IRFU ?

Well the books say Treviso won. So nice to see the Italians record another win I suppose.

Treviso won - you can either blame the ref or accept Edinburgh were not good enough on the day.

Didn't see the game but looking at the posts seems some strange decisions - and why on earth was a novice and Italian referee subjected to this game ?

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
The ref was Italian and a novice, but credit to Treviso they played him far better than us by the sounds of it. Although this may have had something to do with the fact he spoke very little English...
Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
I was at the game. We were terrible in the first 60 minutes and treviso were smarter and more powerful. We didn't seem to care. Forwards going through the motions, we just didn't compete enough for the ball, and kicked far too much ball away.
Ref wasn't good, clearly didn't know what to do with the scrum, and I felt that he was inconsistent when he didn't award edinburgh a penalty try in the second half. But the treviso lineout was massively superior, and they made less mistakes.
Nice try from jones, and visser was deadly as always, but i'm still struggling with atiga, and denton played like he was saving himself.
All in all, very disappointing. Once again, we're rubbish in the league.

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
I've never walked away from a game with my throat so hoarse due to shouting and screaming at the ref, we destroyed their scrum for 8 minutes on their line even after they had a yellow he still didn't give us a penalty try yet he was quick to give them one, the Italian number 1 stood up 3 times in the scrum yet we get penalised absolute joke.
It's the first time I've seen Laidlaw lose his cool and argue with the ref and have to be told to calm down by Rees.

Someone needs to have a serious word with Embra - I thought Backy wanted to give them some steel, looks like same old soft underbelly to me. V disappointing start to the year

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
We were terrible last night. The number of knock ons and other silly mistakes is inexcusable. The ref was hopeless but he wasn't why we lost, trevisio were, for the majority of the match, the better team. They deserved the win.

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
I didn't see the game but it sounds like we just didn't deserve to win it. The refereeing sounds like a problem though - the standards should be uniform across all referees and there may have been inconsistencies here.
Remiss of me not to say that Barbieri looks to be one of the finds of the season. He's scored 6 in the Robocop so far this season (more than anyone on the Scarlets side, for example). Only His Timness has scored more.
So we know where we are now. Edinburgh will not be challenging for the league this season because they just aren't consistent. Roll on the end of the Currie Cup.

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
Tonks had a good first half but went off at half time. He's good a great boot for relieving pressure, and we need it in the first half.
Visser was once again outstanding. I'm worried we may lose him soon, because he can't be happy playing amongst such rubbish week in week out. The must have touched the ball twice in the first half. Once was a great covering run where he had to gallop back to our rescue, and the other was a classic Visser finish, powering past a couple of defenders from 60 metres.
Lee Jones also scored a really nice try, good individual effort. Hopefully will have given his confidence a boost.
Otherwise hard to praise anyone really. Rennie came on an made a difference I suppose, and a nice cameo from Fife.

I really don't know what to make of Edinburgh anymore. It seems we are making progress and then this happens.
No disrespect to Trevisio but if Edinburgh are wanting to challenge for the Pro 12 playoffs these games are must wins.

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
Well done Treviso, good victory away from home.
Edinburgh need to sort this out. That team should have won that game, hard to make any comments without having seen it but I was surprised we lost. Hopefully we'll beat Saracens...
Why do BBC Alba only seem to show Glasgow games and not Edinburgh games? This weekend past Edinburgh were blanked and Blues vs Glasgow was shown on two different channels, BBC Alba and The Welsh channel. I really don't get that. If Glasgow is on Welsh telly then why not just show Edinburgh game on Alba so we can watch both games? Pain in the bum!!

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
Think it's cause Alba just hop onto the welsh broadcast - a lot cheaper than setting up their own.
Call me dramatic but I think if we lose to Sarries out season is basically over. I can't see us getting more than 1 away win in the HK so must win all home games.
Also with the Rabbo we've got a really good last 4 or so games to the season, but that means we have the difficult games earlier on. Therefore we've got to be within touching distance come the last 4 or 5 games. We're currently 12 behind having lost 3 game we should have won if we were going to be serious contenders- doesn't look good.

Agree - if we lose to Sarries it's all about damage limitation. We'd be doing very well to scrape into the play-offs from here, and I really can't see us making an HC QF without winning all three home games.

Re: Edinburgh V Trevisio
Big game, but teams go on runs. The NH season is so fractured that it is really hard to call. After a couple of HC games we've got AIs more Rabo then HC again. Who knows what will happen.
Feeling positive for Saturday btw.
