Argentina A Jaguars claim Americas Rugby Champonship title
Argentina A Jaguars completed a hat-trick of wins over Canada A in the history of the Americas Rugby Championship to claim their third tournament title.
Jaguars defeated the Canadians on their way to the 2009 and 2010 titles and did so again on Saturday much to the disappointment of the capacity crowd of 3,255 at Westhills Stadium, Langford, British Columbia.
Daniel Hourcade’s side ran out 28-9 winners, scoring three tries without reply to confirm their status as the top ‘A’ team in North and South America.
The Jaguars went behind to a Connor Braid penalty after 14 minutes following an infringement by lock Cesar Frutero, which earned him a yellow card. Santiago Inglesias Gonzalo levelled the scores from the kicking tee four minutes later.
The rest of the half belonged to Argentina once Canadian scrum half Sean White had been shown a yellow card at the end of the first quarter.
Inglesias added a second penalty to edge Jaguars ahead before Ramiro Moyano went under the posts for a converted try to hand the South Americans a 13-3 interval lead.
Braid gave Canada some hope seven minutes into the second half when he brought Canada within a score (13-6) with his second penalty goal. But Iglesias responded in kind on 50 minutes from 15 yards out.
After Braid's third penalty made it 16-9, Argentina pounced on a spilt ball from Canada’s captain Tyler Ardron for a breakaway score. Ingelsias kicked his second conversion.
Matias Orlando sealed the victory for the South Americans with a final try in the right corner to make it 28-9.
With a final tally of 10 tries ‘for’ and only one conceded in their three matches, Argentina Jaguars were worthy winners of the 2012 ARC title.
Jaguars had won all previous version of Americas Rugby Championship without defeats.

Excellent result.
Argiefan, do you think argentina Rugby Union will keep focusing their A team as a developmental tool whilst competing in the Rugby Championship, or will they be likely to withdraw from there?

I think theyd be silly to withdraw. The younger players need games at the next level up..and for the moment i guess this offers it.
Who else is in the championship...Peru and Uruguay 1st XV's?
Didnt Uruguay have a prop who played in the English Prem some years back...played in their world cup team.

Re: Argentina A Jaguars claim Americas Rugby Champonship title
The basic idea of this tournament is to promote rugby in Canada and the United States.
The IRB has done enough for Argentina to participate in a class tournament like the TRC, but in return Argentina is required to do a campaign to promote rugby in America (and when I say America, I mean the Americas from Alaska to Patagonia, not only to the United States).
As part of this commitment of Argentina to help promote rugby, (UAR) Argentina Rugby Union has implemented a series of measures to achieve this objective.
The most important measure is to invite Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay and Brazil national teams to participate in the Argentine’s tournament, these countries participate against Argentines provincial teams.
The tournament is divided into several categories, for ascent and descent.
Uruguay and Chile is in the highest category, while Paraguay and Brazil are in a lower category.
But neither country has enough level to win the tournament facing Argentine provincial teams.
So many times I laugh; the comments made in this forum about competing against American countries, really do not know the structure of Argentine rugby, and the abysmal level difference with other countries.
The ARC was played in Canada is part of this commitment from Argentina to promote rugby.
Many speak, without knowing, saying that Argentina has to make a championship with Canada and the United States, as the championship has existed for four years, but given the results, only serves to promote rugby in these countries, not in Argentina.
For example, the Eagles (USA) have lost three games by a lot of difference, they still do not have enough level and they played against Argentina B, if they faced with Pumas, probably they lost by more than 100 points.
Also, notice the great number of viewers of the final game in Canada, 3255 people watching the game! LOL Is really a third-class tournament.
For all this is that Argentina needed to play the TRC.
