Golfing predictions
I was wondering if anyone has ever made/heard/read any predictions that have either come true or have been wildly inaccurate? You know the ones where you're certain it'll happen? Like the time I claimed Coldplay would be a one hit wonder after they released 'Yellow'.
After delving through the archives of the old BBC Golf message boards of 2005/6 I found several predictions that I will share with you all.
1. We mocked Blue Hammer for claiming some little runt for Northern Ireland.... Rory McIlroy would be a World superstar. He turned out to be ok, didn't he?
2. I swore that the most impressive part about Tiger Woods was the way he acted like a gentleman, and there was never any controversy surrounding him.
3. Someone predicted that the 2008/2010/2012 European Ryder Cup captains would be Faldo/Monty/Olly. Not bad!
4. Bertie Beef suggested that if golf didn't have Tiger Woods, the bubble would burst and it could spell the end for golf.
5. I predicted that Erica Blasberg would one day be World number 1 women's golfer. (apologies if that's in bad taste).
6. Someone predicted that long putters would be banned in the next 10 years. Good shout.
Let me know your predictions that have come through, or fallen flat!
Cheers,
Jeff

Poor Erica - she was the one who committed suicide amidst some funny business going on with her... doctor? Or therapist? or coach?
Anyway, I predicted when I first started playing the game a few years ago that I would be quite good by now. Still consider myself to be on the wrong side of mediocre...

Ha ha! Loving the honesty.
Yes poor old Erica. What a very tragic story that was. I'm sure we haven't heard the end of that one yet. Seemed a little odd at the time.

It is a waste! It had nothing to do with me. Honest.

Yes would have been nice if we had all popped down to Paddy Power and put a tenner on Mcilroy at several thousand to one.
Dont know if you saw the Chris Kirkland incident last week but his father made a bet on him playing for England when the kid was about 7 yrs old.Got his payout

Remember the Bluehammer post quite well. Recognised McIlroys name at the Open Carnoustie I think a few years later.
Anyone heard from Bluehammer? He was a good poster, I seem to recall some disturbing story involving him and a naked Boa!?!

Rory Mcilroy was well know in Irish golf circles when he was barely a teenager and very hotly tipped to hit the heights. obviously its a big leap from there to becoming the undisputed world number 1 but the Chris Kirkland thing is far more impressive!

Re: Golfing predictions
The Kirkland bet was when he was 11, in fact it was a syndicate of people who bet £100 each and they all got 10k, very nice. I guess by 11 he must have been showing some potential but still pretty impressive though he's not going to go down in history with the likes of Banks and Shilton really.

I think that was why we mocked him for it. There's such a leap between winning amateur events, and winning the US Open! Good on him though. He seems a pretty decent guy.

Does anyone remember when Ryan Moore first came on the scene? He predicted he would win 12 majors. How's he getting on?

That's right Spaceman. Boa had been invited over to play Royal County Down. Unfortunately, the weather was terrible and Boa, soaked to the skin, ended up stripping off in the car ... allegedly.

I'm sure there was a thread where posters were invited to predict their World Ranking top 10s in 10 years time. Find it, Jeffers.

I thought Michael Campbell was going to be in the top 10 in 2010.
Could have been worse - some others' choices included such luminaries as Olly Fisher, David Howell and Bradley Drudge.

I remember a few years ago predicting that Thomas Bjorn, David Howell, Paul Lawrie and Nicolas Colesarts would win again on the European tour.
Oh how they laughed.......especially about Bjorn and Lawrie.

Re: Golfing predictions
ha theres a chad cambell in there too and half the predictions seem to have Darren Clarke! the most noticeable thing though is that the rankings change way more than people expect.
in 6 years times i would predict only 2-3 of the current top 10 will still be there.

I hope so. He's going to need to be more consistent. There's signs of that already after the last few weeks!
