The Dew Drop Inn Virtual La Botticella Pub, Rome.
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the historical city of Rome, the owner Giiovanni, is a Canadian-Italian, and welcomes all after a great day of rugby.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Tawera Kerr-Barlow, Dane Coles, Aaron Jarvis, Samson Lee and Schalk Brits up on the wall. Erm, actually there is a second rule. No elephants, unless they're Effervescing - we can't be barring a Chiefs fan

Gibbo, yes, I am the clumsiest person I know. But while Mo and I are bumping into things, we are thinking deep thoughts.

Same here...
I see you've been on 'The Roar', Biltong my friend. Some good articles on there.
It was quite warm today... thunderstorm imminent. I hope the SA-AusA game doesn't get washed out tomorrow.
Happy Birthday too Rev.

Yeah, during the Super Xv and Rugby championship there was not much interest here, so I found their website, wrote a few articles and all of a sudden I was a "guru", just shows the those aussies will let any type in.

I saw the Guru tag. They must appreciate you mate. You fit that place like an iron glove too.
I thought it was your own creation at first. You know, the sort of thing us clever left-handers would do.
My mate, "junior" writes a few articles on there too. He's so serious about sport. He's just come back from 7 baseball matches and a couple of football matches in Valencia.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual La Botticella Pub, Rome.
It is in a sense familiar, becuase the rugby talk there is predominantly Rugby Championship and super rugby.
So I get te best of both worlds, there I can fully indulge in my SH rugby, and here where the focus is more NH it fits the bill for that.
I actually had a fight with clyde Rathbone on there a few months ago.
He wrote an article about, changing allegiances to other nations, loyalty etc. and I couldn't help myself, so I mentioned something along the lines of "yeah, Clyde, you should know all about loyalties, having captained SA at the JWC"
And he flew into me like a tin of bricks.
And were the aussies upset with me.
We eventually agreed to disagree.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual La Botticella Pub, Rome.
Good Morning Mrs Penfro.
How's the day panning out so far? All under control?
Reading some of that Roar banter. The Aussies and Kiwis get on pretty well but things like this player 'poaching' debate brings out the extremes in a few posters (of each country) at times. Don't like that sort of thing at all.
The bait is dropped... the hungry fish go straight to it and take a bite.... whilst the rest of us just swim around it and wait for the 'frenzy' to die down. I find all the talk and subtle swipes at other nations can get quite mentally draining at times. Maybe unnecessary too!
I try not to buy into it... I've more of a laissez-faire approach to the whole situation and prefer to watch the outcome of the actual game with or without the players involved.

Yeah, they do sometimes have a good go at one another.
One thing I have noticed is as much as people protest against Quade Cooper, they just can't seem to get away from their "Henson" type obsession of him.

Yeah, as soon as a name is mentioned the usual suspects arrive. It can get a bit tedious and the subject itself kind of bores me anyway.
I didn't mean you up above by the way, BB. (note no SA mentioned).
I read about your clash with Rathbone but that's probably his natural defensive response when you mention that fact to him in a public forum. It all washes over in the end.
Good on you for stating the obvious though and getting a response.

Left handed, bowl left handed, bat right handed. Left hand tennis and right handed golf.
Left footed but I learned to kick with about 95% power/accuracy on my right when I had an injury.

The eating right handed one is strange. Sometimes I pick up the fork in my left and 'suddenly' realise I have to swap it over to my right.
Scissors right handed.
Right handed driver but drive on left side of the road. I found driving on the right hand side of the road in France weird for about 5 minutes then it all 'clicks' and becomes second nature..

In other news, our local bus company has acquired a double-decker bus (the only one in it’s fleet). I was able to sit in the front seat on the top-deck on the way in to da ‘Diff today Twas like being 6 years old all over again (not that that’s a big leap for me mentally )

I love the top deck of double-decker buses.
They got rid of them here (there may be a few floating around) but they might be coming back along with more trams/light rail which stopped in 1961.

Naturally left handed, but I write right-handed thanks to an old-fashioned 1st school teacher. Bat and bowl right handed, play squash left handed (I occasionally swap hands for extra reach though). Kick left footed,

You need to have proper summers to enjoy cricket stag.
It's a lifestyle-religion kind of thing when the sun is out and you're at a ground hearing the sound of leather/cork on willow.

I didn't mean it like that!
I guess it's imprinted on us when we grow up here. It goes well with other summer sports like tennis, golf... even swimming.
Ironically, I live opposite some baseball fields and netball courts, large pool/gymnasium precinct which gets quite a workout all year round.
Football played in winter, also some school rugby training and general promotional sports stuff for TV is filmed there being very close to Ch 9/SBS/ABC. It's like someone sat down and designed a suburb saturated with sporting fields and facilities. Home of the first 'boot camp' in Australia too.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual La Botticella Pub, Rome.
Morning all.
Eventful morning so far for me.
First off, my car needed to be left in to the garage this morning and on the way home I noticed 2 very fancy sports cars waiting to turn right onto the road I was driving along. The one in front was a Porsche and it had it's nose poked out into the road waiting for a gap in the traffic. Just as I approached it must have decided it needed to pull back a bit and reversed back into the road, straight into the front of fancy sports car number 2.
That'll be an expensive repair!
Then came home and picked up the son to drop him at golf. Driving down the twisty country road to the course and the car behind me is almost in my boot. I tapped the breaks a few times to try to get them to back off and then slowed a bit to make them realise how close they were. Just rounded a bend to find a man in the middle of the road spraying some markings om the road. How the dozy eejit behind me managed to stop in time I will never know but I am certain that if she had been in front the man would probably be dead.
Not how one wants to start the day.
It is beautiful here today again though.

We don't really have many winter games in Ireland apart from rugby and a fairly mediocre soccer league.

Like that Emeli Sande. I thought she was awful during the opening ceremony of the Olympics, but critics were wetting their pants over it.

Mrs. P Such a dangerous area you live in what with guys driving into your garden through the walls etc.
Some good news. Just had a text off Scotty and it seems he is to be discharged. Not sure if it's today but it appears imminent.
I didn't realise he was no longer in the FB Pub so I sent him details of the comments you guys left on there.
