should andy nicol be replaced
scotland need a new pundit
does anyone else think scotland need a new pundit?
andy nicol has got to be one of the most miserable and negative pundits in world rugby, he never has a good word to say about scotland and we usually get more positives from other nations pundits ,
you have to always have optimism and believe you can win games and do well, he has said he doesnt give scotland a chance against the all blacks, unlikely to upset south africa but should mannage to win against tonga,
we need positive attitudes in every direction to build a winning mentality, every other nation has belief and fans all ways come across confidant and we need to be the same
does anyone else think he should be raplaced and not let anywhere near on matchday,
and who would be a good replacement?

Pundits are usually way more critical of there own nation.
And are you saying that scotland do have a chance against New Zealand ?

Re: scotland need a new pundit
if you dont go into a game with belief you can win, whats the point?
yes the new zealand team is brilliant and anyone will struggle to beat them but why cant it be scotland? the game starts at 0:0 so there is alwaya a chance,
when we beat australia and south africa not many people give us a chance,
so i think you have got to always have a positive mentality to create your chances

Chris Paterson is a fantastic pundit from what I've seen so far - will hopefully see more of him now he's retired.

yeah i think he would be great for it, he is relevant and is recent that everyone knows of him, the balance of what he says is spot on, and always finnishes with something constructive and positive..

Yes but it has to be either one of Graeme Morrison, Hugo Southwell or Scott Lawson so we can be fully sure they won't 'break their way' back into the Scotland matchday 22 when AR fails to coach the current mob well enough.

In all seriousness I'd love it to be Paterson. He's definitely top 3 in terms of Scotland rugby legends, and people who only started watching last year will know him. Good for awareness.

That is quite true , But if we are being completely honest all of that pundits credibility would go out of the window if he said scotland have a chance and them get beaten by 30 odd points.
I would actuly love Scotland to win , press here in Nz are terrible , so up them selfs its un believable.
i dont want to bring this thread off topic but this is just one instance of what im talking about

if scotland get a new pundit , does that mean that England can get rid of Stuart Barnes ? i have to turn off the sound when he is commentating on a game.

Re: scotland need a new pundit
wow it seems as tho the world cups gone to their heads a bit,
there is truth in that, i just really hope its not a rout again which is usually caused by our own stupid errors,
there are many a times i have to mute games for a while, maybe it does all need a shake up in the coverage,

Re: scotland need a new pundit
I don't have a problem with Andy Nicol but he doesn't really blow you away with his analysis. Most of the time he talks I feel I'm like, "yeah I already knew that, got anything more interesting to say on the matter?". I also hate that the BBC let the pundits commentate matches, especially Jonathan Davies who is just miserable when Wales are not winning. Usually by the end of the 6 nations I hate them all and their crap attempts at being witty and humorous.
If they had some unbiased commentators for matches and saved the pundits for pre match, half time and post match interviews/discussion it would be a lot better in my opinion.
Chris Paterson would be my choice as a new Scottish pundit. But when Chunk retires I'd love him to be a pundit, that would be hilarious! I can picture it now...
"We're five minutes away from kick off, we'll head down to to our new pitch side correspondent Chunk!! who I believe is with Tim Visser.
"Tum, ye gonnae score sum trys the day then?"
"ahh, well hopefully, but we have to work as a team, ahh, of course I'd it would be great..."
"right. You lookun forwerd tae they summur toor?
"Yeah, well after last years success it'll be great to, ahh, recapture some of that spirit and hopefully, ahh, have some good wins for the boys."
"right. Back to yoose in the studio."

Chris Rattue, sometimes writes with tongue in cheek trying to spur up a response. He is worse than Stephen Jones if thats possible as people stated
above its 0-0 at the start of a game.RWC gone to there Head ?hardly with there Record against anyone ,anywhere. Why should`nt Scotland win there at
home,in Winter Conditions. In mid Afternoon and more familiar with the recent variations in the Laws.I`ve seen Scotland written off and beaten sides with the right gameplan.Nothing to lose just go out and enjoy themselves there`s only 15 players on the park at a time.

The BBC need to replace all their pundits, they are without exception effing shyte. Sky have got those god awful knobs Barnes & Morris, but at least they balance that with Lynagh, Fitzpatrick, Quinell, Wallace, Ryan & Greenwood.

Re: scotland need a new pundit
i dont think Nicol is too positive, he is if anything too suppportive of the sru, Robinson and his selections. He usually mumbles some positive rubbish before a game and as it becomes clear we are losing starts to back track at half time.
I would prefer a pundit that was prepared to get off the fence and say what he really thinks about selections and tactics before the start of a match so we can see if their predictions pan out.
If he is saying Scotland have no chance of winning then for once he is telling the truth.
With the injuries in the squad and lack of form of several players if we won this game it would be the biggest upset of the professional era, bar none.
This is not being negative, it is the reality of professional sport. Unless New Zealand pick their coaching team as their front five i cannot see any way we can win the game given the resources available to the two countries. Yes i know there are two dogs in this fight but one is huge, powerful and cunning and the other, well, the other just isnt.

Mossy would be my 1st choice, he's a proper Gent and very knowlegable about the game.

Re: scotland need a new pundit
I really like Scott Hastings when he is on - clear, consise and talks about the good opposition play when it happens as well as the home team
Too often the commentatory just talk about their own teams plays and dismiss anything good the other team does - -really Freaks my Nuts off

Really?
Whenever Scotland play England all I hear him say is how much better Scotland are and how they really should be winning etc.

Re: scotland need a new pundit
The Beeb need to replace all thier pundits imo
Nicol, Guscott, Davies and Inverdale are the worst combination of pundits to have on TV.
Each is more irritating than the next! One eye'd, flippant, condesending, poor sports - just a few ways I'd describe them.
The BBC need more like Keith Wood. I find him a decent pundit. I'd have Paterson or Scott Hastings from Scotland, Scott Quinell for Wales, Jason Leonard for England. I'd stick in castaignede for France also. Poor Betson mumbles.
I'd replace Inverdale with anyone on the planet!
The commentators are not as bad - except Brian Moore. Eddie butler is a marmite commentator, you love him or hate him. Call it Bias, but I think Andrew Cotter is the best commentator since Bill the Legend Maclaren
