"Goode: We can blow Aussies away"
Why can't people just shut up and let the players do their talking on the pitch?

Greytiger it's just media hype and twisting words surely?
"There will be a big improvement for next week. If we play as well as we can do then we are good enough to blow teams out of the water."
Australia suffered a heavy 33-6 defeat to France in Paris on Saturday evening and Goode believes England are in good shape to inflict more misery on the touring Wallabies.
"It will be a different type of game. It will be tight against the Aussies," Goode said. "We will be tested a lot more but that is the challenge for everyone. We have to raise the intensity a lot more and in defence just make sure we smash them from minute one.

Re: "Goode: We can blow Aussies away"
That's a fair enough comment. Was an English player talking to an English reporter aiming for the English rugby market, so I think it is fair. Specially based on the headless chooks running round last weekend getting tonked without looking like scoring a try, against the 7 try fest of England, I think it's a perfectly predictable comment. No probs there, and I am sure none of the players on either side took any notice of it.
I think England has a good chance of winning, but then again so as the Aussies, bookies will make England favourites but it's a game I think the Wallabies will win, but that's for another thread.
As beshocked has already said, what Alex said and what's on headline is only a tenuous link...
And to be fair, no player would have said much different from any side of the world. All players truly believe, and supporters too, if a side play to its potential will blow most other side out of the water... unless the other side is playing to their full potential, when the explosion will be even greater, spectacular to watch!

It is indeed sexed-up by the press 'shocked. Lancaster must therefore have chosen to present Goode to the press interview - a rookie confronting the media. That's Robshaw's job (maybe he was there but didn't provide the tasty bananas for the monkeys).
[ed] : I placed my quotation marks carefully in the OP title. I knew that the press made up the juxtaposed 'comment'. Any story can be sexed-up by the press. It is Lancaster's responsibility to manage the teams' exposure to the jackals. As (before someone makes a gaffe) managers should have strict rules on social network comments).

Exactly Ozt.
Greytiger I feel like you are being upset over nothing.
Also don't forget "we can blow Aussies away" is completely different to "we will blow Aussies away". Goode said neither anyway.
Why shouldn't Goode talk to the media? This is a non story anyway.
If the Aussies want to be incensed by something that the media made up then by all means do so.
Saying "on our day" is nothing new is it?

Typical sensationalist and poor journalism. Combining those two separate comments to make the title of that piece is a joke.

Sort of headline that a sub editor really couldve made controversial by shortening it.
Yes a classic case of media despertaley trying to stir the pot. Comments taken out of context and gravity of whats said over stated.
England were capable of it two years ago, its not unreasonable to suggest they could do it again especially given aus' showing so far on this tour.

Re: "Goode: We can blow Aussies away"
As to players allowed to speak to media, Goode was MoM, so entirely 'wanted' by the interviewers. Don't see why he should be locked away by management & gagged. Maybe players entitled to expect some 'media' training, but no need for cotton wool.
Back on planet Earth we are all grown up enough to read beyond 'shock' headlines and understand what was actually being said.
Congrats to lack of over-reaction here on 606.

All been said above, I like what Goode actually is saying and if England beleive it I think the Oz team might just receive a bit of a tonking. They are a very good team with huge problems so should be beaten as such!!

I'm not sure why thats funny Biltong, I have stated Oz going home winless wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world. France beat them at a canter (well I only saw highlights but Aus were not at the races)
Wales can only get better and I expect them to beat Aus (but I did in the summer too) I'm just annoyed we don't get to have a go at the saffas, very beatable at present

Read your bolded part from an outsiders perspective, then tell me you don't find that thought funny.
Let me elaborate, it is 5 minutes before game time, the english coach Lancaster is having his last motivational talk.
At the top of his lungs, he screams "They're a team in trouble and should be beaten as one in trouble!!!!!!"

Re: "Goode: We can blow Aussies away"
Aus were beaten by France, beaten by Scotland at home, so no I don't see why it's funny. Wales are hugely over estimated remember so 3 losses by a combined 7 points was it? mustve been really bad news for Aus, despite celebrating it like a WC!
Aus are nothing of note right now and should be beaten as they have a million and one things going wrong, infact I'd say all teams up north will beat them besides Wales!!

Re: "Goode: We can blow Aussies away"
I do hate it when a player come out says some thing like this.
If England dont now go and win against Australia he will make the whole England team look like idiots.
We may well go out a win against Australia.
But did it not occur to him that Australia might have been having a bad day at the office. And that the loss against France might just be the kick up the back side they needed to come out and thrash England.

Re: "Goode: We can blow Aussies away"
All I know is that just when you think Australia are there to be taken, that's when they surprise you. I'm sure you'd rather face Australia as they currently are but then when you end up losing (or drawing ) you look back and wonder how that really happened. It's like they feed off the negative energy from the press and harness that into grinding out a win. I mean how on earth did they come second in the RC with all those injuries?
Goode is right to think England can blow the Aussies away. But he needs to be in the right frame of mind for that to happen because if he thinks it's automatically going to happen (not saying he is) it's not going to happen.

Australia are expecting several players back from injury this week - Pocock, Moore, Ioani, Timani.
That said, if England don't win this week they seriously damage their prospects for to that 4th seeding for the RWC -as they'd either have to beat both SA and NZ, or beat SA and hope Argentina beat France. If England beat the Aussies they'll be just behind France in the rankings, and a win over SA will probably be enough. And if the Aussies lose to Wales as well France and England could both make it. (Wales probably have to win all their remaining games to go through)

majesticimperialman, you seem to have not read much of this topic or what Goode actually said rather than what the reporters constructed for their headline
"It will be a different type of game. It will be tight against the Aussies," Goode said. "We will be tested a lot more but that is the challenge for everyone."

And now the non-story from the Australian side HERE.

Absolute tosh, headline once again bears no resemblance to the interview at all! These sub editors are properly shoite.

He didn't even saying anything about blowing Australia ( ). He said "teams", not even "any team on our day" that is the favourite with some. He basically said if we play at our best we can heavily beat 'teams' (e.g. Fiji).
Just read some of that Ioane article. The best headline was that he finds our wingers pretty? You tell how marginal league is in this country outside of the M62. How about "league not skillful" says Australian wing. Or even the more fabricated 'League is easy compared to union'
