Glasgow v Leinster 23/11
First topic message reminder :
A bit threadbare, missing 2 whole front rows to intl duty, not to mind all the others and the big name injuries (O'Driscoll, R Kearney, Nacewa, Ftizgerald, to name a few) Badly in need of a win.
Glasgow is one of the last places we need to be going. Possibility of Sean O'Brien making a return on the bench is the only good point. They won't want to risk him though if he is not 100%
The teams:
Glasgow: 15 Peter Murchie, 14 Tommy Seymour, 13 Alex Dunbar, 12 Peter Horne, 11 DTH Van Der Merwe, 10 Ruaridh Jackson, 9 Sean Kennedy, 8 Josh Strauss, 7 Chris Fusaro (c), 6 Rob Harley, 5 Tom Ryder, 4 Tim Swinson, 3 Mike Cusack, 2 Pat MacArthur, 1 Gordon Reid.
Replacements: 16 Finlay Gillies, 17 Ofa Fainga'anuku, 18 Moray Low, 19 James Eddie, 20 Ryan Wilson, 21 George Graham, 22 Scott Wight, 23 Byron McGuigan.
LEINSTER:
15: Isa Nacewa
14: Dave Kearney
13: Brendan Macken
12: Andrew Goodman
11: Fionn Carr
10: Ian Madigan
9: Isaac Boss
1: Jack McGrath
2: Aaron Dundon
3: Jamie Hagan
4: Leo Cullen CAPTAIN
5: Quinn Roux
6: Kevin McLaughlin
7: Shane Jennings

REPLACEMENTS:

17: Jack O'Connell
18: Martin Moore
19: Devin Toner
20: Jordi Murphy
21: John Cooney
22: Noel Reid

Gordon Reid has been called into the Scotland squad, as cover for Grant. Looks like we are down to our 4th choice LH.

Great to see SOB back lads, was hoping he'd lie low until after the 21st December though

Loving the look of that team - it certainly soothes the post-work trek up St Vincent Street when I know a good match is in the offing!
Incidentally, Sean Maitland tweeted something like "T-Minus 23 Hours and counting" at about midnight last night - I'm beginning to actually believe that he's coming.

Conway ahead of Carr is the only change Id make. Delighted to have SOB back we really needed him.

That'll be Ofa starting then Dorothy as he's the natural loose head. No problems with that - he's done well when I've seen him. I haven't seen a revised team yet but I think that this means Araoz will be on the bench, although he's technically a tight head.

Araoz over one of the youngsters, like Hunter?

They'll hopefully know by tomorrow whether Grant will be fit so Reid could be released in time to make it. Fingers crossed (mostly because I would rather not have Traynor starting for Scotland)

Have no problem with Georgie boy on the bench provided he's been playing regularly for Gala.
Not sure that he has though - does anyone know?

I would have thought DTH would be wanted by Canada if fit, for their game against NZ Maori?

Traynor ahead of Reid for the Scottish jersey is a joke.
I would have Dickinson ahead of Traynor too.

McLaughlin, Jenno and SOB. Are you mad? That´s the best backrow in Europe that is. Isa back? Oooh man, I could crush a seedless French grape.
Glasgow so strong. Both sides have sexshy backlines. This, sportzfanz, could be the game of the Season so far.
Id love to be there, suppin pints with me Warriors oppos...

Pretty happy with that Glasgow team given international call-ups. I'm not entirely surely what we should doing with the centres, to be honest. I think most of us want Dunbar at 12 for Bennett to come in at 13 but we need to keep Horne until Weir is back. Incidentally, Morrison is out of contract at the end of this season, isn't he?

Byrne is the biz yeah? Never seen him play. Love to see it too, Fan. Gilsenan is another lad with a big future. What a player. Is he the new Jenno? Tune in.
Go West Meath! ;-)
Shame that Josh Van De Flier is not a winger. Perfect name.
Another flanker. As is Conan The Barbarian. Marshall is a great find too. Lock/Flanker. We could sell quality backrowers.

Marshall is like a clone of mclaughlin. Ye i'm heaing good things about Byrne, he is on the u19s and is already playing with the A's. He can play wing, fullback and centre and is a big lad for his age.Gibson wrote:Byrne is the biz yeah? Never seen him play. Love to see it too, Fan. Gilsenan is another lad with a big future. So coughlan is definitely been converted to a centre?
Looks a very good pack. Looking forward to how Tracy, furlong, Berne, gilsenan and conan get on.

He's not definately being converted to a centre because he still plays back row in some 'A' games. Its still an experiment.Golden wrote:So coughlan is definitely been converted to a centre?

OK. Having not seen either of them. Is Ofa any good? and I presume "young George" is an academy prop?

Re: Glasgow v Leinster 23/11
Ofa is a Tongan international and was brought in to help with our injury crisis at the start of the season - he hasn't started, but has played well when coming on. His most noticeable cameo was smashing Jamie Roberts in his first game.
George Hunter is a young EDP prop, unsure if he has ever featured in a pro game.
Essentially they are our 4th and 5th choice looseheads.

This is pure unadulterated Poopie from Leinster. Good Glasgow defence, but the Scots haven't been near the Blues line for the whole of the first half practically.
Schmidt must be wondering what happened to his wannabes in the off season.

This has to be the worst game of rugby I've watched in about five seasons. Ineptitude on both sides.
6-0 to Leinster. It should be 0-0.
I feel like I'm back in the seventies. Dreadful. Just dreadful.

The notion that one team should actually win this match is appalling. Both sides should be deducted points for misrepresentation.

ah here now pot hale thats a bit much : ) conditions are shocking to be fair and its our 2nd/3rd choice side. The error count even with the weather is scandalous
i remember ireland 6-6 scotland in a windy landsdowne in the mid 90s. Nearly passed out with the cold. Was dreadful.

Fair play to Leinster - took points when it mattered; dominant Glasgow in the second half couldnt do the same.

Tough one for Glasgow - I think Horne and Wight need to by the front row a lot of drinks tonight!
Forwards set this game up on a plate for the kickers - misses lost them the game. Simple as that!

Damn went out to the pub at half time. Figured Glasgow would be able to overturn a 3-0 deficit... Gutted about the missed kicks, big chance to beat the mighty Lenister gone a begging.

I was doing overtime so only just got in to see the score. I've got the game recorded but I don't know if I can be bothered watching it if it ended 0-6. Was there anything good about the game or should I just get hammered?

The weather made it impossible. I found it strangely entertaining for such an awful match. But probably this was because the result was in doubt up until the end. You know it ended 0-6. So there's really no point watching it.
Could prove to be a crucial win for Leinster come the end of the season. Keeps us in the top 4. And we haven't really clicked. Yet.
