Thickest rugby player?
First topic message reminder :
Who is the thickest rugby player?
In Wales I always thought it was Andy Powell. One of my west Wales farmer customers told me today that it's actually Tavis Knoyle. Quite surprised to see a player in a reasonably intelligent position to be of the two planked variety.

FFS get promoted back to the Prem
I miss the away trips to the Mem
Some of us Wasps were having a bit of leg pulling with Haskell after the game in Mogliano. Can't be arsed to tell the details, but it went right over his head.
We're trying to Hound. Hit and miss at present. The Mem pasties are a thing of joy and idiots corner never changes.
Good luck Bris.
The Robin Hood's Retreat on the Gloucester Road for a pint, or several, when you make it back. Miss the Bris fans, and the pasties.
Back on topic. Apparrently Cullen was nicknamed 'beer bottle'.
Nothing from the neck up.
Cullen's "beer-bottle" nickname was made up by Eric Rush in Rush's first book - a deliberate WUM by Rush that stuck.

On today's evidence it has to be Robshaw.

Priestland just overtook him to top spot.

Re: Thickest rugby player?
Just to add a defence of Robshaw...
SA have conceded 1 try in 3 games, England never looked like threatening the try line, and Farells boot is very solid!!! If the restart had been taken cleanly England wouldve worked their way into SA's half and the chance of a penalty would far outweigh the chances of scoring a try.
I would be far more worried about the players questioning Robshaw, Farell taking weigh too long to convert and Botha the plank for the restart

Agreed. The kicking tee seemed to take forever to come on. Very easy for bystanding journo's et al to take a pop. The strange thing being I wasn't a CR fan, and now find myself defending him.

Me too, I mean asking the ref to chang ehis mind isn't a great thing to do, then thinking for 40 seconds before discussing it with a colleague.

Re: Thickest rugby player?
Well McCaw called for the scrum on his own 22 in extra time against Australia and NZ got into position for drop goal 10 seconds later.
Sometimes it's not the decision of the captain but the ability of the team. Shall we say his ambition outmatched his team's ability to deliver his vision?

Re: Thickest rugby player?
Well if the kiwis went for a drop goal it was because of their inability to score a try
Mccaws decision was ambition outmatched his team's ability to deliver his vision?
Cheeky cheeky

Re: Thickest rugby player?
I get your cheeky stance :-) but no excuse for the delay - the time taken may well have been the deciding factor. Penalty awarded -> a kick at goal was one of the option -> tee should have been ready.

Re: Thickest rugby player?
well that just shows a lack of experience and preparation.
"Sir" Johnny wouldve had a specially prepared ball ready let alone a kicking tee.

Remember, England got slated last week for not taking the kicks to catch up with the Oz score. 1 week on and they're slated for actually doing it!

Re: Thickest rugby player?
Ye it was definately more time taken and unconvincing decision than the decision itself, lets be honest Wales did similar to Ireland and if England had managed to get another shot at goal we'd all be praising his foresight.

Sure it's probably been mentioned, but the entire Scotland squad, each and every one of them thick as wood
Re: Thickest rugby player?
Absolutely ! Sir Jonny "be prepared" Wilkinson. Some of us are still worshipping the "old religion"

Its all about the timings. Last week there was 20 plus minutes left, this time there was less than 3.. 30 seconds of which SA could hang on to the ball for before even taking the restart plus the time it takes to make the decision and take the kick. Only a few minutes earlier they had turned down a kickable penalty to get that field position.
And again its not just the actual decisions made, its the manner in which they were made and the panic on Robshaws face. Lancster has admitted in his interviews that that they dont really plan for this kind of thing and that he leaves it up to the captain to make his own mind up...which really smacks of amateurism.
Every pundit on the two channels Ive watched, all experienced former internationals or and/coaches, was baffled by the decision making in both cases. Once is one thing...twice just shows he isnt cut out for this, and that Lancasters approach is naive.

In fairness, that one was on the very edge of Farrell's range. Andy Farrell criticised Owen for taking kicks that long when they played Scotland in the 6N.
That said, if you miss then you just get the ball back from the 22 drop-out anyway, so may have been worth a shot.

Good and well-put points ... we need to walk a game in their boots ... then we'd definitely lose !

Danny Grewcock for me.
It seems he was always at a loss to work out why a game of rugby had broken out in the middle of his mixed martal arts bout.
