Cherries, you definitely need to replace Anton ASAP, he's a total liability. And Sam centrally might not be the best move.

If you're after English players, I have plenty - make me an offer Euro Division Homepage XLII - Page 16 3559488474

Cherries, if you play 3 at the back, one injury and you're playing that Bournemouth defender picard

If KP was that good he would have no issue making the South Africa team and would bypass the quota rule because he would have been far too good like Kallis and the other top South African players.

Its like England having a quota where some of the players have to be none white, Rooney, Hart, Gerrard, Wilshere would all make it because they are good enough but the crappy England players like Henderson, Downing would lose thier place to the black players. Now I'm not saying KP is crap but if he was world class or "South Africa would die to have him" why was he put in a position where he has to compete with the quota players and mot making the side on his own brilliance like the real top players.

The quota system in question was within cricket academies long before you were talking about playing for the national set-up. Pietersen was in the Academies but didn't agree with the process. He got offered the chance to join Notts. South Africa tried to keep him, but he had made his mind up.

Viva, I think the reason KP didn't get into the SA setup was because of his attitude, not his talent. Although he may have had a longer wait, because the SA team when he was 'ready' for international cricket had some stellar names (Smith, Gibbs, Rhodes etc).

Oh so he quits on his country and we are happy enough to take on a quitter because we can't produce quality players of our own.

Maybe KP knew that he was not good enough to break into the South Africa team and used that as an excuse. I would only play for the country I was born in or if I moved to another country from a very young age and grew up there I wouldn't dare turn my back on them or stab them in back and leave them because I wasn't good enough for them.

I would play for Canada over England regardless of my birth or ability - it's my mother's country, I'd have to represent it.

Same goes for war - if Canada are at war with the UK and I get called up, my moral duty is to defend my mother's homeland. Which is Canada. So I'd be at war with all my family (bar her), including my wife and son Laugh

I don't think Pietersen feels or maybe felt more English as such. I think he just wanted a "fair" chance to play test cricket and saw England as the best opportunity.

That isn't to say he doesn't feel more English - I don't know, but I see an opportunist more than a patriot.

I think your right with Pietersen Sod, but not because of ability but because of the cricketing system.

I guess the same applies to Trott, Prior, Compton, Strauss as well, plus the likes of Dernbach coming through. It's not fair to slam just Pietersen because he is less popular.

He has as much right to choose England as any of us though. Why shouldn't he be allowed to pick England over South Africa.

He picked England early and stuck to it through his county qualification period. It's not like he tried to play for Saffa, couldn't break through and so changed his mind.

An Azzy you'd get r*** in a war, do Canada have an army? I heard they suck off USA to take care of them. I'd smash you with my M16 and Desert Eagle as my secondary gun, two frags, two flashbangs, big massive rambo knife and my health care pack.

Afro the only reason I said KP is because we were talking about him and he is the most popular, to be honest I don't think the others should be playing for England if they were not born here or grew up here.

No quibble from me on his ability. He would have been in any side in world cricket but ended up with us because he didn't want to play the SA system and waste time.

I apply it on a case by case basis with these things, but I won't lie - it makes me uncomfortable to have players in English sides that weren't born in the country or qualify through residency only. I know you're a Somerset fan, and Kieswetter is another I'm uncomfortable with.

Canada has killed more dissidents in Afghanistan than either the US or UK, thank you Wink

I'd have my UK insiders passing me your route options, and put some roadside bombs down on them. BOOM!

If you get past that, I have my satellite recon giving me precise locations for my Canadian Mountie troop to come in with their wolves and savage you. SHRED!

Failing that, I am excellent at paintball and laserquest and would simply snipe you from half a mile away with my Dragunov. POW!

Kies is even less qualified than KP for England. He should be playing for Scotland before England. Same applies to Morgan, who will captain England shortly

I don't think Kies should be able to play for England because his is purely on residency. I think through a parent is okay, but not residency.

Mind you I'm not sure on the set-up whether Scottish people can play for England through nationality.

Anyone with British parentage can play for England, so that includes Scots, Welshies, Irish and Northern Irish.

I tend to be more comfortable with people who spent a great deal of their formative years in the country and feel identity with the culture. Parentage is trickier because it depends whether they feel close to their parents roots I guess.

There goes the old joke with our cricket team:

"Where do England players stay when they're touring South Africa?"

"With their parents."

Although I just read this of Jade Dernbach, who moved the the UK aged 14:

Although born in South Africa, after his first call-up to the England squad, he stated that "I don't owe anything to South Africa. I was just born there, did a bit of schooling there, my whole cricket career has been based in the UK, and UK is my home. I want to give everything I can to England cricket, that's the country I love and that's the country that has given me everything I have now."

That's the kind of guy I am comfortable with representing England.

Go the whole hog then Viva, because there is only 4% of the population that shows any signs of Celtic blood. We are all Saxons or Vikings really.

Obviously people born in England regardless of cultural background qualify.

I was comparing

non-English parents, born oversees and emmigrates here at a young age

versus

someone with an English mother or father, but born overseas and only moves here at 18.

Which has more right to play for England?

Thats a tough one, I've seen people with non English parents and even though they came to the UK at a young age they still support the country they were born in. Then theres the one with English parent but born elsewhere and from the ones I've met they seem to prefer the country they grew up.

Both have the same right, but I'm concerned more with desire. Why do they want to play for England? Is it their first choice?

If they don't feel English or love the country then I don't much want them playing for it.
