Sale vs Toulon
Game on now
3-8 to Toulon. Their pack is awesome, Masoe makes ground all the time, though Sale are putting up a very good performance.
Especially in the scrum.
Wilkinson kicking away far too much ball and not accurately enough either

Wilkinsen is struggling with his kicking.
Is it my imagination or is Bakkies hitting few rucks?

Pretty good effort from Sale considering their league position. Can they push on?

Quite, it sounds more like a Ciprimentary than a rugby match.Morgannwg wrote:Cipriani lovefest going on in the commentary box.

Considering the other SKY Sports fav is his opposite number they are pretty quiet about possible Lions Candidate JW. He's been very poor by all accounts, certainly overshadowed by the Cipriani who can kick better, as well as pass and run.

Re: Sale vs Toulon
How on earth did the referee not penalise Sale for breaking up their scrum, he then allows them to play the ball from an offside position?

Been impressed with Sheridan looks a lot more mobile than I have seen for a while.
Wilko puts a timely pen over. After loose pass from Cips nearly leads to intercept try.

Bastareau looks a bit of a fat knacker these days, he has been stepped and beaten a few times now.

Aye, but Toulon are not as dominant as I thought they would be in the scrum. Maybe they should swap Sherry for Fat Bastereau

135 appearances in Europe for Simon Shaw- thought they were gonna say 135 years old. Feels like it, can't believe he's still playing!

It was Hayman that was done in the scrum. Sheridan has been doing well.

Some of the decisions that have went Sales way have been ludicrous. I find myself wondering if the ref is English. If you are referring to the decision in the first half were Toulon turned over, the ref was going to blow for a penalty to Toulon then bizarrely awarded a scrum to Sale, from which they won a penalty and kicked 3 points. Dispicable refereeing.

The tactic to open the gap at the scrum and attack the hit is paying dividends for Sale, very smart!!!

Re: Sale vs Toulon
They went backwards in the last scrum too...
Credit to Sale, their pack doesnt have anywhere near the reputation that Toulon do and they are more than competitive.
Considering the try chancy at best, Sale have been very competitive against one of Europes most expensive sides.
Can they hold out for the last ten minutes.

Re: Sale vs Toulon
Aye they are probably because Toulon's flyhalf is impotent
When Toulon spread the ball they look a good side, when it goes to Wilkinson all he does is kick it away and he is not kicking well today.

Whilst I want them to win for my accumulator - it has to be said that this Toulon team play well, well below the sum of their parts.

Fat Basteraud man of the match.
Liking his hair. Clearly aiming for the slimming effect of vertical stripes.

The game fizzled out with the weather to be honest... Toulon do not look like they are going to cause too many problems for anyone.

Toulon haven't been impressive at all in the HC. They struggled past both Sale and Cardiff. They are lucky they have such as easy group.

Re: Sale vs Toulon
It's not unusual for French teams to not sparkle in the group stages. But I have to agree Toulon & Toulouse don't look sharp.
Certainly compared to Ulster. That performance last night by the Ulster lads was one of the most complete performances I have seen for a while in the HC.

Re: Sale vs Toulon
I think your all missing a ittle point though, until this season the French teams struggled away from home, Toulon especially, and now they are coming to the UK playing poorly and not just winning but denying the home side points too. JOB DONE AGAIN.

Re: Sale vs Toulon
French sides often don't do more than they have to, but have that extra gear when it's really needed. They're also completely different beasts at home.
Toulon & Toulouse both top Clermont in the Top 14, I wouldn't discount their dozy performances in this competition yet. Particularly if teams are playing them in France in the knockout stages.

In the Toulon starting line-up:
4 Frenchmen
4 Englishmen
4 Kiwis
1 Australian
1 South African
1 Argentinian
I suppose they communicate on the pitch in English?
Simon Shaw for Lions.

Re: Sale vs Toulon
When Wilkinson plays well Toulon are monstrous, some of their performances in the Top 14 have been really, really good. Their pack is too powerful for all but the very best and in good weather their backs are classy. Also they can if need be switch Wilko for Michalak so i wouldn't count them out yet
And from what some of the french papers say the french players have to take english lessons and the trainings are in both french and english
