What Next For Marquez?
Ideally retirement. He simply cannot top that performance. He cannot go out on a better note than absolutely donkey punching Pac Man. It was utterly devastating. The man hit the canvas face first.
But if he doesn't retire then there is only one fight i would like to see him have. Chris John.
It is a loss on his record that was dubious. It is a revenge fight against an undefeated fighter. It is a fight that can be made and fought in Las Vegas. It can give him one final pay day. It can be won.
If he fought Floyd exactly the same would happen again. Mayweather's arms are too long, Juan would not be able to get inside. If he fought Pac Man again then it be utterly pointless. He has done what he wanted to do. He cannot top that knockout... ever.
Bradley isn't a draw and would be ugly. Rios would get battered inside 8 with his face first tactics. So, it has to be Chris John or retire for me.
Thoughts?

Chris John wants no part of JMM, or of any live opponent under fair conditions. In all truth he should retire. There is no better way to go out than KOing a p4p fighter like that. WarQuez now has the signature win he craved and money in the bank.

Wish you'd retire from the forums. Or make good on the promise you made on the old 606 regarding a high bridge.

There not going to fight. John offered him a fight @ 135 in his back yard, with his mother reffing and uncles scoring. Never going to happen.

Re: What Next For Marquez?
Chris John? Chris bleedin' John?
Bit of a pointless fight by 2012 / 2013 standards, I'd say. Marquez has grown in to a bit of a brute at 140 lb or more these days by the looks of things - he'd be a bit too big for John now, I'm sure.
It's odd that John should put the feelers out for a rematch now. Marquez badgered him for at least a year for a return bout after John took that decision over him a few years back, and John didn't want to know.
Marquez can name his date, price and venue against pretty much anyone at 140 - 147 lb (Mayweather aside) now, so I don't see what value a rematch with John would have when there are big fights against pound for pounders, closer to his size, such as Bradley, Guerrero and Garcia out there for him.

Re: What Next For Marquez?
Don't think Marquez needs John at all. His legacy will always be tied in with Manny and now he has the definitive win, I don't see anything achieveable out there that will improve his standing.
If he needs the money then he should fight on for another year or so, otherwise he can retire with a huge degree of satisfaction.

Would love to see him slap Garcia silly. Then slap his dad for dessert.
Would be one of the most one-sided whoopings ever seen if they got in the ring, an absolute schooling by JMM winning every round until an LKO victory.

Most fans here and around the world who aren't CRAZY ****s (we can both type in asterisks) would salivate at the thought of a war with Rios, a rematch of this years FOTY or a war with Garcia. You on the other hand don't fall in to the "fan" category, but rather something else stuck between a hard rock and a crazy realm of reality.

Re: What Next For Marquez?
I actually quite like Garcia Jr and wouldn't mind seeing him do well and really succeed as a good world champion in the coming years, to be honest. His dad's a bit of a todger but I'm fairly indifferent to him, really.
But yep, you're spot on, he'd be in over his head against Marquez if the Mexican's recent form is anything to go by. I don't think that's a slight against Garcia, who is a capable fighter at world level without doubt, more just a reflection of the high level which Marquez is at just now.
Garcia, Guerrero and Bradley are all perfectly legitimate fights, significant to his legacy, and he'd start favourite against all of them, too.

Would that be the crazy realm of reality where you are a PGA golfer, destructive wicketkeeper/batsman, website design genius and Don Juan's more successful younger brother?
Just ignore him if you don't like him. That is what I do with you. Most of the time.

Tina,
Beat a guy who at the time was rated #1 in the world on the amateur scene in the London Amateur foursomes. Why would I lie?
Could go on about being head of design.... and etc etc. Much like you "apparently" buy and sell precious materials, you've got just as much reason to bull**** online as I have. And by that I mean there's sweet F.A. point in doing so.

And moving on.
Guess we should be demanding that BHop faces the guy that beat him in his first pro fight as well? That would really enhance his legacy. Same applies here but on a lesser extreme. Both ideas are about as laughable and ridiculous as the other though.

Re: What Next For Marquez?
Marquez should go for Rios.
Would be just like the Juan Diaz fight for me (which has alway been my favorite of JMM's)
Rios would come out trying to blast him out but ever so slowly getting tagged with that right counter. Until the point were a 9/10th round goodnight sweetheart for Rios and his cocky attitude.
Garcia?? Meh! Not that bother about seeing JMM fight him. Think Garcia is a very under rated fighter. Gets a lot of flak for rematching Morales but prior to that was COMPLETELY wrote off by almost everyone when signed against Khan. They were practically preparing the lil ceremony to hand the WBC belt over with Khan talking about how Ali once held the WBC belt etc, as if he already won it. And Garcia blew him away.
Garcia vs Matthysse is going to happen anyway as that what the Matthysse vs Olusegan fight was all about. So look forward to that and still wouldn't write off a Garcia win there.
It might sound silly, but I think Marquez should go and take Paulie Malagnaggi's WBA belt off him, he deserves to be a world champion of some sort after that win at the weekend. Then a unification with Bradley in September!!!!!

Fools rush in where fools have already rushed in... Or something. So here I am.
Anyway back on topic. Fraid to say, hometown judges blah blah, the John Marquez result was legit. People seem to think because Marquez screamed robbery, it was one. John fought fairly negatively as he usually does and made Marquez come to him. Barely a punch landed but the one that were were generally from John. Enough to scrape a decision. Dreadful fight, no one who loves boxing would ever want to see a repeat, or watch John fight anyone come to think of it.

Unfortunately so, has also played havoc with the poster most likely to partner Alistair Cooke in the next ashes series and user most likely to replace Steve Jobs at Apple award, but am sure Sean will cope

"Hoped" I was gone, more like! Just a wee pre-Christmas break with the family.
I need to ask Seanus nicely if I can still vote as I missed the deadline. Thread of the year will be a tough one. You unleashed the 'Ten Uncrowned Greats' and then Chris responds with another in the 'Ten Fights to See' series. Might have to meet in the middle and vote for something from Gordy.
