What Next For Marquez?
First topic message reminder :
Ideally retirement. He simply cannot top that performance. He cannot go out on a better note than absolutely donkey punching Pac Man. It was utterly devastating. The man hit the canvas face first.
But if he doesn't retire then there is only one fight i would like to see him have. Chris John.
It is a loss on his record that was dubious. It is a revenge fight against an undefeated fighter. It is a fight that can be made and fought in Las Vegas. It can give him one final pay day. It can be won.
If he fought Floyd exactly the same would happen again. Mayweather's arms are too long, Juan would not be able to get inside. If he fought Pac Man again then it be utterly pointless. He has done what he wanted to do. He cannot top that knockout... ever.
Bradley isn't a draw and would be ugly. Rios would get battered inside 8 with his face first tactics. So, it has to be Chris John or retire for me.
Thoughts?

WUM.
Most fans here and around the world who aren't CRAZY ****s (we can both type in asterisks) would salivate at the thought of a war with Rios, a rematch of this years FOTY or a war with Garcia. You on the other hand don't fall in to the "fan" category, but rather something else stuck between a hard rock and a crazy realm of reality.
Any of those fights you mention would be a great watch Coxy.
Garcia would be a tense affair until bursts of explosion as DG isn't great at coming forward, as in, he needs the other guy to initiate before he becomes dangerous but I can imagine some fierce exchanges between the two!

Yes but has he done a 'Johnny Nelson Career in Video' Chris? If not I suggest you get cracking on the article.
Chris John is/was a talented fighter, but he hasn't been active enough or fought in the US enough to make it a valid fight for Marquez at this stage of his career. Marquez calls the tune now and there are a host of credible big money fights that could be lined up in 2013; John is most certainly not one of them.

Re: What Next For Marquez?
As Pacman was out and Jinkee wept, Marquez should have casually strode up to the stricken widow, taken her and growled with a Latin twang "You're my wife now."

jimdig wrote: I think people are also forgetting that Manny and Marquez are made for each other, i.e small men that have bulked up. Marquez could find height and reach advantages enjoyed by most of the world class welterweights a step too far. For example, Manny has made the 2nd half of his career feasting on Marge, Clottey, Cotto, Mosley, etc, could you see Marquez making his way through similar oponents? I can't.
No, because whilst manny isn't as skilled a technician as JMM he posseses certain qualities that JMM doesn't - ie lightning speed and power that carries up to about 150lb, and it's these attributes that have allowed Manny to destroy a series of considerably bigger men.
Marquez has always had mannys number, but size disparities may mean he struggles against other fully fledged welters. I'd have thought 140 would be JMM's best weight and a fight with the undefeated Bradley there could be good, although I bet TB would want it at 147. Guerrero v Marquez is the fight I'd like most. Both technically good, both willing to go to war. I've said repeatedly a return vs Fliyd would be pointless, it's a bad style match up and JMM doesn't hold a single physical or technical advantage over Floyd that would enable him to win the fight - improved conditioning cannot improve upon the complete shut-out of last time, especially when you remember Floyd did not even impose himself physically on Juan.
Personally, if I were JMM I'd do one of two things: 1. Retire at your career apex; he's ended the greatest rivalry of his career and of recent times with a decisive KO win - it won't get better than this, so go out on top. Or 2. If Arum desperately wants the rematch make the filthy slag sweat on it and bleed him dry for every nickel and dime going.
