Tyson Fury v David Price purse bids set for January 9
A much-anticipated clash between undefeated heavyweight rivals Tyson Fury and David Price has been put to purse bids by the British Board of Boxing Control just a day after promoter Frank Maloney said the bout was unlikely.
Both sides have given the other a verbal pasting in the past when attempting to find common ground in negotiations and now have the chance to put an offer to the board to get the fight made for the spring of 2013.
The BBBC have recently released a date of January 9 for bids to be submitted for the potential British and Commonwealth title clash, with the fight having to take place before the end of March next year.
Fury’s representative Mick Hennessy is keen on sealing a fight against Price for his man, although would want the current Lonsdale belt holder to agree to fight on terrestrial TV with Channel 5 as his agreement stipulates.
On the other hand, Maloney may want the contest to be shown on either BoxNation, where Price has fought his last two victories, or possibly Loaded TV, with whom the former promoter of Lennox Lewis has just penned a one-year deal.
It could well be a positive move by the British Board to end the speculation once and for all as to whether Fury and Price will fight before either goes for a world title, with January 9 the new focus for both parties.

Still can't see it happening until more is on the line. Hope it does though along with Frampton Quigg. Two very interesting domestic clashes if it does come off.

This might sound like a dumb question but is there no way they can cross network it if they cant agree?

Fury offered £100k, Price turned it down. Price offered £650k, Fury turned it down.
Will reserve judgement until if and when purse bids happen as I suspect there's a lot of hot air coming from both sides.

Re: Tyson Fury v David Price purse bids set for January 9
Well, one thing's for sure - Price won't be vacating the British title rather than defend it against Fury after the stick he's given Fury for doing so in the past, so you'd think there's a slightly better chance of the fight being made this time than there was the last time purse bids were being mentioned.
If, as some say, it really is just a question of where the fight is televised, then I think Maloney would be foolish to wade in with a 'BoxNation / Loaded TV(!) or nothing' attitude. In fact, I'd have to wonder how serious he is about making the fight happen at all if he did stick with that.
I'd much rather see Fat Mick edge the negotiations and get the fight on Channel 5 than see it tucked away on BoxNation and it makes perfect sense for the fight to be there. Price will want his profile raising just as much as Fury does and besides, BoxNation will still be there after this one, single fight if they still want to go down that avenue.
Perhaps neither Maloney nor Hennessy want to be seen to be bowing to the needs of the other party, or are worried that having the other camp 'dictating' TV terms will give them a psychological edge, but considering where both fighters are at the moment there's really no major reason for this fight not to happen.

channel 5 should get the fight, the viewing figure would be huge, the exposure both fighter would receive would help them both.
a fight like this shouldnt be on loaded tv, ive never heard of it.
im edging fury in this one but it is close to a 50 50 fight

If Maloney wins the purse bids and it has to be staged on Boxnation and then Fury/Hennessey pull out will people acknowledge they ducked or say it was because of TV deals?
Hopefully it happens, it will step the rivalry up a level in my opinion.

Why should channel 5 get the fight?????
They are a smallish terrestrial channel with a limited sporting budget...
This is the kind of fight Boxnation needs to try to break even by acquiring more subscribers..

Would agree, exposure is all well and good but how much more would they make for people paying to watch it on Boxnation. I'm sure everyone who has been watching Fury on Channel 5 will know about the fight with Price so I would have thought it for at least from their point of view its better business? Fans lose out mind you unless you are already paying the subscription but when has that stopped any of them?

Fury has a commitment to Channel 5, the fact that he is sticking by it is admirable in my book, whereas Maloney / Price are available to the highest bidder. Loaded TV? What is that? Never heard of it.
Will Vitali agree to fight on Channel 5 though, that is the big question...

Bloody loaded tv. What the hell is that.
Sadly tv deals will put an end to this one for now. What happens if price wind purse bids, I assume Fury can still pull out?

I get the feeling that a Wolrd title fight being shown on C5 might make em cough up over budget because of the certain surge in viewers and the resulting windfall in advertising revenue. Vitali won't mind either way because he gets a fixed 3.5 million and should Fury catch an athritic Vitali on a bad night - they might have a lot more paydays to come.

With no belts to strip from him I can't see what they have on him to stop him walking away? He has already dumped the titles so I wouldnt be surprised if this is the outcome.

Only thing is if fury wins purse bids - surely price is between a rock and a hard place?
Re: Tyson Fury v David Price purse bids set for January 9
Price should bite the bullet and agree to fight on 5 then. Anything else will be considered a duck in my opinion.

If I was a promoter of one of them I wouldn't let the fight happen. That is why it probably won't.

Lets be fair he has a contract with ch5 and I can only assume that if he chooses to fight on another channel he will be in breach of his contract and will have to pay damages (money) to ch5.

Prefer it on boxnation myself Channel 5 is so cheap rate its painful to watch, sadly cant see Fury fighting Price no matter who wins the purse bids.

Loaded TV doesn't seem like the most usual place to show boxing! How about a compromise - stick it on Sky Sports 1 and then nobody's happy. Price should knock Fury out in the first half of the fight anyway.

Duty281 i agree sky sports would be the best channel if it was possible to do it on a joint promotion between Maloney and Hennessy with everything split 50/50.

Said it all along that Fury in my eyes is the favourite to win the fight between the two. Price has fought a bunch of tomato cans and in his last 2 fights and next fight he will have fought a 41 year old past it domesic level fighter in audley harrison. A 45 year old c level domestic fighter in skelton and a 41 year old fighter in tony thompson.

Yes but a 41 year old Tony Thompson will still be fitter, make more effort and be a better fighter than Kingpin Johnson and a retired cabbie ever were. I dont know why you think Price should have been fighting the best men in the division in his first 15 fights but without doubt his next opponent will either be Thompson who is far better than anything Fury has ever fought or another tomato can called Tyson, if the fight actually happens(which i have great doubts it will). I look forward to them fighting though and would put good money on Price will ruining Fury inside of 3 very one sided rounds.

The kingpin is higher ranked than the grandad thompson the kingpin has never been ko'd or even knocked down.
I am not saying he should fight vitali in his 15th fight but I am saying I'm not surprised that fury is the favourite as he has fought the better opposition. Fury has fought tomato cans and until he fights someone decent (someone who is under 40 would be a good start) we will never know how good he is.
Let's not forget in the amatuers a 16 year old fury knocked down a 23 year old price.

I prefer channel 5 to box nation... You can watch the fights later that eve from the chan 5 website.... and Bunce annoys me.. and of course its free.
I did hear Hennessy say that should a really big fight come up he maybe would think about doing some deals with channels to make more money so he might still come up with some pay per view fights, unless he was referring to other countries..

Bunce annoys me too. He always bangs on about the klitschkos fighting nobodies and that they should fight someone like price. I always think to myself that at the moment Price is a nobody he is ranked outside the top 15 by some organisations and has only had 15 fights.

Victor, you come across as a fan of the Klistchkos and fair enough, but while you tell us all how terrible Tony Thompson is, isn't it worth remembering he was worthy enough to fight for Wlad's titles, for the second time, quite recently?

Also, C5 has HD which boxnation doesnt, so surely thats another reason its better on there?

Re: Tyson Fury v David Price purse bids set for January 9
No he is not, in fact KJ is not even rated in the top 15 in any organization in the world and has not been for a very long time, BoxingRec also have him in their ratings all the way down at 43 while Thompson they have at 11. I give you he has a good chin but other than that he is a very poor lazy fighter who has never beat anyone and doesn't even seem to try to win, he is a journeyman heavyweight who has made a name surviving.victorgarco wrote:

11/2 are seriously tasty odds for Fury.
Fury has operated a couple of levels above Price, can't be any argument about that whatsoever.
Still unsure how good Price actually is, fair play to the lad everything he seems to hit seem to topple, opponents have been dross but hopefully 2013 he is matched a lot sterner, that Skelton matchup possibly the worst bit of matchmaking I've seen since Herbie Hide took on Damon Reed for a version of the heavyweight title on a Warren card.

Apart from Chisora and Johnson their level of opponents are pretty similar, some people on here are talking as if Fury has constantly fought top 10 ranked fighters.
We all know Furys whiskers aren't the strongest after he got dropped by the feather fisted Pajkic so you have to wonder what would happen if Price landed that big right hand flush.
