England road trip
Evening all,
As well as the potential hol mentioned in yesterday's thread I am also looking at a little road trip of England. I try and do a week each year as you tend to forget what you have on your door step.
I've got a few ideas but am open to suggestions. I usually call at oxford on the way down as I have friends there. Then I'm thinking Glastonbury, Exeter and looe. No real thoughts for a destination on the way back up. Recent years I have done Salisbury, bath, bristol, Stratford, Warwick, Nottingham, cotswolds. Any ideas people?

Re: England road trip
Depends what you're after really, mate.
I did a road trip/camping trip back in May which was excellent - stayed at Bala Lake in mid-Wales, the Brecon Beacons, the Forest of Dean and finally Bourton-on-the-Water (we stayed in a B&B here to end the trip).
That was very much an outdoorsy trip, plenty of scenery and a beautiful little village to finish up with.

I'm actually off to the Keswick beer festival later in the year. I've been the last two years. It's great fun. First year I wssnt expecting much. I thought it would probably be mostly older blokes. But it was mixed ages and blokes and women. People from all walks of life. We usually have a day of activities kayaking or walking before the festival. Some of my mates did the coast to coast last year. The band's are always great too. A madness tribute act on the Saturday this year.

Id recommend the Peak District, the likes of Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock etc.

I know you said 'England', but what about a tour round Scotland? Especially if you like hiking/walking. You can mix a few city days (Edinburgh, one of my favourite cities, maybe try and coincide it with the Fringe which is a) is brilliant; and b) adds a real buzz to the city) with a few days up in the highlands which provide some of this islands most beautiful scenery.

Re: England road trip
I do intend a tour of Scotland Tophat at some stage but just England on this one.
I love Edinburgh, it's my favourite place behind York. I did go to the fringe last year and read up on your piece at the time which was very useful. I'm hoping to go again for a couple of days this year as I had a fantastic time.
Good choice's Hero. It's an area I've not really been to and if I time it right I can follow my local team Whitby there too.
thanks for you time gents.

I'd ditch Looe in favour of Polperro if I were you.
Looe is horrible and "touristy" where as Polperro is very pretty.
