End of season I presume they'll be star bids. What's the limit going to be?

I'd be against new Star Players, unless we're forced to accept three of five Lawyers offers, for example.

Have received cup votes from: Marky, Gregers, Afro, Viva, Nando, Azzy, Cherries and Trebs. We all get £2.5m for participation (to be added later when someone like Hero says so)
Shame on you for not voting: Hero, Sodhat, Olly, Zebs, CF, Tooze and GSC. You have until midday today to vote and still get the monies (because I'm nice). And in Sodhat's case, vote to avoid being -1 goal in your cup tie.
Fan has left so no blame attached to him.

Oh Poopie, I forgot about penalties!
I deliberately wasn't voting because it felt a bit like I could influence the cup when I was still in it, but I'll do it now.

Surely that's the best reason TO vote, no? Try and get your preferred opponent into the final if you make it yourself!sodhat wrote:Oh Poopie, I forgot about penalties!

Morning all - back at work, boss in a meeting all day, so I'll be online for most of it and DEFINITELY doing some Realistic League stuff. We won't be starting until after the transfer window closes though.

I'm in favour of star player bids again, but I am also in favour of some enforced selling, like Azzy's 3 from 5 lawyers (i'd even go 3 from 4 or 4 from 5).

Re: Euro Division Homepage XLVI
Actually thinking about my last comment, I would really shake it up.
No new Star Players (on reflection I don't think they are needed and are the reason the last game fizzled out), but keep the enforced sales in the following format:
You nominate 2 players for end of season lawyers, 3 are drawn at random and you have to sell 4 of them!!!
You could also bump the TP limit up a couple of million at the start of the season

We'd have to find a way to make it a bit fairer though, maybe have players you can nominate that cannot be sold. Say I got 5 bids, all for crap players, but Marky got 5 bids all for stars, and we both have enforced sales, he suffers much more than me.

CF wrote:what is the star player policy?
At the start of the season every team could bid for one player worth upto £25m (and above the TP limit) - this was their star player?
In past games, each team has got a new star player at the end of each season. What it meant was that over the three seasons the league had 48 star players and I would put my finger on that as why it became stale - people didn't want to trade star players and transfers stalled.

I don't think it did work in the last league unless you were already one of the teams at the top of the leagues.
Sod - I would keep it completely random - it's luck of the draw, much like in lawyers and injuries. If I get 5 stars and someone gets 5 crappies, it is going to effect me more initially, but I will also get more cash to replace them. Plus it makes it more of a game with random elements and not just an exercise with no risks, of just constantly improving.
In real life, all teams get these set backs where stars want to leave.

Re: Euro Division Homepage XLVI
I don't think star players killed the last league early, I think it was discussion about the reboot that did it. People were then more interested in a reboot and wanted to get to it before the season was done.
I am happy enough with the random element if everyone wanted to go down the route of enforced sales.

Re: Euro Division Homepage XLVI
Do you not think at the end of the last league there was a real dearth of transfers as people were not keen to let any of their hard earned star players go? It is understandable as those players were far more valuable than the rest.
It also got to the point that managers could only improve with star players, so you ended with a stalemate.

Re: Euro Division Homepage XLVI
Partly it could have been due to slowed down transfers, but I think people just wanted to get to the reboot after it was discussed. Perhaps they go hand in hand, in that lack of transfers made the reboot seem more attractive. I always thought it was just down to impatience to get to the excitement of the draft, personally.

Re: Euro Division Homepage XLVI
I think with the end of the season coming we need to see who still wants to participate, because there is a noticable drop off from some.
A smaller league with 100% participation is going to be better than a larger one with maybe 66-75%, isn't it?

Cut two teams, get El Dios back, and let the good times roll
I'd be all for:
1. Nominating 3 players who can't be Lawyer-ed
2. Nominating 2 players for Lawyer-ing
3. Being given 3 players for Lawyer-ation
4. Having to accept 4 of the 5 Lawyer offers
I don't see the appeal of having another raft of star players.

I'll second this notion. Although I wouldn't necessarily be worried about point 1, I can see the purpose and value of it to some managers, and I of course have players I would rather not sell as well

It means we'll all have our 3 favourite players, and I'd be much happier with the enforced acceptance rule if it meant I could protect my three most crucial players. If not, I'd hate to have to sell two of Ba / Ben Arfa / Bonucci! Imagine you having to sell your two other stars just to keep Tevez

Happens to even the best managers. SAF didn't want to sell Ronaldo, Wenger didn't want to sell RVP, Fabregas et al.
The sign of a good manager is when your players decide they don't want to play for you anymore, how you deal with it and move forward still.
I would have a lot of players that I wouldn't want to sell, but I'm more in favour of making it a bit more challenging and not such a straight forward ride.
Also how about making it so that in terms of selling 4 out of 5, the sales can be either to the lawyer offer, or another team in the league

I wouldn't want to do it and it would be a difficult choice, but then I'm not playing the game for an easy life. It is a decision I would just have to make if I wanted to play the game properly

Thing is Afro, this isn't a realistic league. So no need to try and make it realistic.
I would be 100% against forced sales of players, no matter who it was.

Also, when can we buy players who've been sold through Lawyers? We need those guys to come back into play too.

Re: Euro Division Homepage XLVI
Really I'm just trying to make it more of a game and a bit more of a challenge than it currently is, not trying to make it more realistic.
It just feels too much of an easy, routine, 'accept lawyers, upgrade in TPs, do a set of tactics, vote, start the cycle again' game atm and I do not see what the harm of making it a bit more challenging.
But I will, of course, go with what the majority want

Seems like there is some middle ground though
Say, 2 of 4 lawyers must be accepted, but you can also nominate 2 or 3 players that absolutely won't get an offer made on.

You are nominating 2 yourself, so it is really 2 out of 3 that you haven't picked, with 3 players protected as well
