Greatest prop of all time
Greatest prop of all time
Thought I'd carry on the Greatest Ever series with Props. Doesn't matter which side of the scrum just the best overall for you. I've tried to include Props from all eras and teams but please tell me if ive missed someone out. Your thoughts as well woud be nice.

Re: Greatest prop of all time
Woodcock? Surely there are better modern props?
NZ havent exactly been the scrummaging force of the world
How about
Carl Hayman
Castro
Gethin Jenkins
Adam Jones
Mas
Domingo
Id say all of those are better or on the same level as Woodcock

Re: Greatest prop of all time
pretty tough decision this one but I went for Adam Jones. He's improved hugely not just in the actual scrum but he adds a lot more now to his play around the field. Think he's fab

wales606 - I had the same problem, guess my Welsh-tinted glasses made me choose Adam (I think he's better then Geth). Not sure if I should change it to Mas though!

I have changed the poll to allow you to cancel your votes if you need to.
Re: Greatest prop of all time
Im the only one to go for Hayman so far
Was brilliant news when he signed for Newcastle. Hes my pick as the greatest, but it wasnt an easy choice.

Who on earth put Bill Beaumont in there? Worse still, who voted for him? Bill was a 2nd row forward
I you want to replace him from a similar era (though a bit later), Jeff Probyn would be a good call

I've swapped Beaumont for Probyn in the poll - if the person who voted for Bill wishes to change their vote, they can do

Re: Greatest prop of all time
Nope - actually I voted for Jason Leonard.
Not only was he a great prop but he was one of the first to make the full transition from the amateur to professional game - and to play over 100 times as a top class international is an amazing stat
Seond choice would have been The Ox (Du Rant)

Leonard is there on the basis if longevity rather than for anything he did isn't he?

Re: Greatest prop of all time
I can't believe Jason Leonard is being touted as one of the greatest of all time. he was adequate at best. not exactly mobile either...

Re: Greatest prop of all time
Kevin Skinner,Johnny Simpson.Ken Gray all great,Gary Knight,Olo Brown,Greg Somerville. As to Tony woodcock until recently he was considered world`s number one loose head. All Blacks can`t Scrum it took 20 minutes in Marseille to sort out Frances Illegal scrummaging tactics. Then they scored a shove over try not many sides do that v France. After that NO problems at scrum time.Woodcock,Oliver,Hayman was the best Front row in world Rugby not so long ago.

Hoi, prop is not a position. It's like saying back row forward. Can we have two threads please, one tight, one loose?
