Re: Today's stand out players
Coombs or Biggar to stand out for Wales as everything decent or poor they do will be scrutinised by the pundits.
For Ireland I think Kearney is going to get so much ball kicked at him that it'll be impossible for him not to stand out.
I think Maitland and 36 will stand out for the same reasons as Coombs and Biggar. Tat said I think Lamont will be key for Scotland.

Wales : Ian Evans! By a country mile. Our only forward to compete in the first half.
Ireland : O'Driscoll
England : Twelvetrees/Farrell (hard to pick a standout)
Scotland : Beattie? Brown?

Re: Today's stand out players
Visser? really? His only contribution to the game was to have Morgan walk straight over him
Ireland: Zebo - looked lively and was solid in defence
Wales: Faletau - carried and tackled all day (tipuric when he came on as well)
England: 36 - looked born for Test rugby, carried well and always looked for the offload (if he'd stayed on he would have got my MOTM)
Scotland: Hogg, was brilliant at the back, electric when running and his kicking game kept gaining scotland about 40 yards.

I will honestly say anybody who criticises Coombs today is so ignorant, it's untrue. I am only glad he did play well, as there were a few of people on this site who were saying "Premiership player" and guff like that and were probably overly analysing him looking to highlight any mistake. He did his job. Few penos and one noticeable loss of ball in contact, but that shouldn't detract from what was a good debut. That last bit is the key point. Debut. I knew he wouldn't let us down and he didn't either.
The trouble with him is, nobody knew of him due to the lack of Dragons televising and his injury. I said before the game he would do okay, but as I said, people were wanting to justify us shoehorning Kohn into our team and probably want to magnify Coombs' mistakes. I wanted to sound off when people were saying before the game, he's too small and that, but didn't want to jinx him. I can't believe that 6"4 is considered small anyway.
If the Western Fail can give Coombs a good rating, then I know he did ok.

Re: Today's stand out players
Thought best was Irelands stand out player in truth. Notsure why he was carded as what he did appeared perfectly legal. Team yellow gone to the wrong man IMO.
Zebo, girloy and earls missed too many tackles in the 2nd half for me but Zebo is going to be an absolute star IMO. O'Driscoll showed you can't right him off either (I did). Gave his more vaunted opponents a lesson today

Good to see Sean Maitland getting right in behind his new country, and Bruce is a far more scottish name..

Re: Today's stand out players
What Maitland did was ok but he basically stood out on his wing all day. Ive always questioned his work rate or at least the effectiveness of it and the only time he came in defensively was when the huge pass to the left put England in with no one in front.
His part in the try and kick ahead was ordinary I thought, Hogg the inspiration behind both tries. Maitland needs to up his work rate or he'll get left out. He seems to need things to go his way and thats what happened. Surprising hes rated so highly here. As a test debut... fair call but he needs to do a lot more.
